Tarkov’s Best 5.56 Midgame Weapons!

- Looking for a solid mid-game 5.56 weapon to use as a routine raid beater? Today we’re looking through all of the 5.56 chambered options to decide on a few different guns that can work nicely on a budget once you have access to M856A1 rounds, which are really the minimum requirement for 5.56 at this point in the wipe.
Since the buff to 5.56 ammo, I personally feel that this caliber is pretty strong right now - although it may not be quite as good as the various 762 rounds, the decreased recoil and lower cost that you tend to get with it often makes up for it.
In the past, 5.56 was synonymous with the M4, but these days we have plenty of choice across the caliber, from the MDR, to the AK101.

It should be noted that, according to Veritas latest Video, Fragmentation only works on arms and legs and only with bullets over 20 pen.
At least at the current version of the game.
thats interesting, because i've been killed by sniper scavs with one shot of 7.62x54r LPS rounds that have fragmented in my thorax.
Granted that was previous wipes, as i havent played this wipe yet, so perhaps its changed now.

@@yelloweyeddemon5509 I got thoraxed wearing a zabrallo with one shot 7.62x54R in previous wipes. So it is a recent thing. May be they were looking for more consistency for well placed shots..?
@@jordanfetch4191 it happened to me this wipe. So it still happens. But apparently it’s only scavs? So I guess it’s either bugged for pmc or bsg made it that way intentionally? Lol
The frag chance only occurs on limbs so take the average damage with a pinch of salt as it depends on where you shoot the person for frag chance

One nice thing with the AK-101 is how little modding it needs to hit very good numbers for both recoil and ergo - halfway decent handguard/foregrip/pistol grip + GP-02 butt pad and a good 5.56 suppressor on the front and you're good. Very easy to pull parts from your stash to kit out without buying anything specific other than maybe the CNC adapter.
AK 101 is up next for me. But I got Knight this morning with a Scar L and managed to survive without finding the other 2 Goons so that's sitting pretty special right now. 556 has been great
Knight prob got the guy who killed them so there was a nice pile of loot somewhere around there lol
Another advantage that MDR's high ergo provides is possibility to use 40 and 60 round mags

I'm loving running the loud AK102 lately, just a small AR with high ergo and easy to control. Not a super high rate of fire but I've kept the gun for like 5 straight raids and it served me well.

The AK 101 is actually one of my favorite guns this wipe. Cheap AK parts that are just under "meta" make it so nice. I also feel like I've gotten a ton of 55a1 out of no where this wipe
Dont forget that the rogues on lighthouse sometimes run scar-l with suppressor, so hop in with your scav once a while and see if you get lucky

Honestly AK-101 is my favourite gun even for end-game content.
I've gotten SO many SBIH headshots using it with a suppressor and 1-6xVudu. It has crazy fps especially with M995.
How tf does frames per second gets influenced by M995???

Veritas just released a video that states that fragmentation only happens on limb shots, I would not count on fragmentation as I pick the weapon I'm about to raid with. Other than that, amazing video as always

The 101 is a beast this wipe
I like the m4 bc once you can't repair it past 93 you just sell the lower receiver and buy a new one, swap all your other parts onto it, saves a lot of money vs having to buy a whole new gun.

I missed your stream today but here is a new video idea for you that I am happy to provide:
Everyone is aware of the "mosin method" for cheesing the sniper skill to level 4
What I don't see people doing is using a 30,000 rouble flea market R700 ....which can also top load ammo, for 0.1 points of sniper skill per BULLET.... to do this "mosin method" for way less cost than using a mosin
TCW SP is 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of T46 and the R700 has removable (and UNLOADABLE) 10 round mags
Meaning you can insure an R700 with no scope for minimal cost... bring it in empty... load 10 rounds at a time... NOT ONE AT A TIME.... and then put the rounds in your pocket and reload the gun 10 at a time in way less time
then just ditch the gun (same as the mosin method).... but without just throwing 12k of ammo on the ground per raid

I THINK that it takes way longer this way, would need to test it though. You can do it by putting in a round/taking a round out of the VPO215 as well, or just reloading magazines but mosin is more efficient I believe
@@Gigabeef I haven’t timed it but my friends did the mosin method this wipe and would take about 5-10 minutes to do it while wandering around doing other things in the background
This of course is just something they did as they went along and didn’t focus on because it has to be done 4 times
Using the Wyatt 10 round magazine and top loading, then uploading the magazine and doing it again with the same 10 bullets (four times) it takes about 2-3 minutes using the 700 for me
I have a weekly to survive woods 23 times and in 6 raids so far I’ve managed to competely exhaust the ammo in the first minutes of the raid then go about my day on every raid
I think that being able to survive long enough to completely cycle the 40 rounds this way may also be a factor
But-
It also may not be interesting enough for a video

I'm loving the scar this wipe, the horizontal spread is amazing for midrange hosedown. The only down side is its size on screen but my scanning style it doesn't matter too much.
I'll be giving the AK a try seeing how people praise it

@@butcherofthewest5825 literally constantly point your camera at points of interest around you, don't stare straight ahead. Think about how enemies might show up. Your vision can't be blocked by your weapon if you are always rotating your view. Just remember it's more mentally taxing than just sprinting from one loot spot to another waiting to react
I know this is a 5.56 video, but I'm surprised people aren't using the 7.62x39 PS ammo for budget based gameplay given how cheap the ammo, weapons, and attachments are for those guns. With them upping the Pen to 35, it's been melting level 4 armor and even holds it's own against level 5.
I think the issue is the recoil on those weapons. The round is good in a vacuum, but you can't get as many accurate shots on as you can with something like a SCAR-L + M856A1 and there are lots of midgame rounds with >35 pen, so while PS rocks the early game there are more choices now :)
The MDR a must go to use gun even if I want to do budget run, and it's the one I reach mastery lv3 before anything else.
How much did it cost for you with the MDR build? I keep having it around 170-200k and i feel like Im doing something wrong , it shouldn’t be that expensive
@@tiendoan6417 Around 45k for a base gun on Flea, 81k for modding including Surefire SF3P (7k) + MINI MONSTER (31k), a tactical device like a BALDR PRO (9k) and TAC 30 (30k) with a 30mm mount (4k). You barely need a foregrip because It's never help much with recoil and ergo anyway so I skip that option, stat wise 64 vertical recoil with 61 ergo.
Unless you talk about 308 version which is more expensive on a base gun and modding.
To me I don't even consider the 5.56 MDR "good for budget," it's just straight up one of my favorite guns in the game. Absolutely love the feel. Amazing balance of ergo & recoil no matter how you mod it (I like to go full tan)
Love using the Scar-L. Farming the rogues had me having a couple of them already modded so i tried them out and i love it. Especially since 5.56 is actually doing damage this wipe compared to the previous one. Hk 416 is second for me but i would use the Hk for longer range combat.
5.56 for longer range combat? I couldn't hit a target standing still in the open with M4A1 with 3x scope and M856A1 ammo in ~100m. Do you think HK416 can make those hit?
@@CeceliPS3 i've hit some people at range ~200 m with it and managed to kill them. Wasn't very easy but it can be done.
I think they should make the mdr have base recoil like a normal gun and make the buttpad have mega reduction like a stock. It's not "realistic" but it would fix the issue.

ak 101 is amazing midwipe, it doesnt really "fall off" as a solo player latewipe either. it simlpy gets outperformed at close range by other higher rpm 556.
Take a look to the last Verita's video, fragmentation is only for leg and arm shots for now.

Worth noting the RC2 is affected by the FDE glow bug
Veritas made a good video regarding the Fragmentation. It is bugged at the moment even for >20 pen ammo by not fragmenting on Torax and Stomach, only on limbs.

You can build a short g36c for 100k also. It's very useable, even at the higher fire rate.

not sure if you've noticed but the convergence stat on the M4 allows you to single tap, then spray with almost none of the initial "M4 jump" we've all come to know
with a little skill you can keep it in auto, tap 1 round and then on the down swing full spray without nearly the jump the gun normally has on the first 4 rounds

Maybe that fraction of second the target would be out of sight. I usually play the m4 and pull straight down hard and slow pull up for around .2 second then its on target. 900 raids 844 pmc kills , most was m4 ,mdr , scar L. Scar L hand down the best feel when shooting but worst to handle and screen space is absurd

Great vid but I would have to note that fragmentation seems to be broken unless pen value is above 20 and its a Limb you shot. therefor making the great fragmentation chance on 5.56 a lot less great that its made out to be.

Correction: The fragment chance only applies to limbs at the moment. It is not applied when you shoot the body with armor

Concerning bullet fragmentation, have you seen Veritas' video on this? Fragmentation currently never happens on PMCs except in the limbs.
Hello, don't know if you saw but veritas put out a new vid with testing and it seems that on player to player fights fragmentation does only happen on limps and torsa does never fragment. Seems to be a bug but for the time I would not factor fragchance into caliber comparison.

G36 is often overlooked. I enjoy it with minimal modding. it requires a bit more pulldown, but the left/right jump to me seems far less than the other options.
I find people often not picking up the G36 either

Have to agree. I usually build myself a short G36 with total cost of 100K ish(if u but long G36 with rails and sights u can sell those back to trader for 20K). With short barrel I get 50 vertical recoil and 30+ ergo. It rocks
Does it have another suppressor, not 5.56, that doesn't increase the weapon size when attached, like MINI MONSTER?
I believe that is the only one!
The problem is there is no mid game. There is the first week of the wipe than everyone tends to run end game ammo+armor as far as my experience goes.
I don't think this is true since the flea changes, even a month in the majority people were definitely still wearing class 4 and mid tier weapons and ammo. Not to say you won't sometimes run into juicers in that time period, but it's no where near "everyone".
I've encountered more people running early/midgame kits than gigachad loadouts. It all depends if you run labs, aggro custom push, shorrline resort, reserve bunker at early times for loot you will run into more lategame players rushing economy, places outside of economically optimal loot you'll see most of where everyone else is.
I think this is different since 12.12, the early-mid game is so much more balanced now
The ergo performance confused me because I didn't see a huge difference in the video in aiming also it can be compromised by using a laser in a close-range fight. But the horizontal spread of Scar is amazing so I will always use Scar.
Probably chose a bad example tbh because that was pretty much "best case", as it's the SCAR with mini monster build - although I am actually favouring that at the moment. The SCAR's inbuilt recoil control means the actual recoil number isn't that important, so going for ergo actually works fairly well!
Fragmentation is currently bugged. Even rounds with 100% frag chance will not fragment on stomach and thorax. They only fragment on limbs

Are there any significant differences between the 30mm scope mounts?
In my experience the Lobaev is the worst. I’ve been running the RN but wondering if there’s a better option.
Not really as far as I can tell, small amounts of height over bore but yeah not massive imo
I love using the M4A1 but since I'm still level 27, crafting M856A1 is a painful and expensive long process...
It's my first wipe and I'm level 28 and I have 56a1 unlocked? I got lucky with some 55a1on PMCs I killed so can top load but you should be able to do 56a1 quest fairly easily
I don’t like the mini. It’s too loud. I ran one on a G36 and it drew too much attention to me. Switched to a real silencer and am happier…

Ergo is not a 0 to 100 on all weapon comparison bruh AK101 an MDR are the best whatever you try in AR .

Personal opinion from a guy who swaps from extremely casual/memey to sweaty at the drop of a hat:
Adar: Honestly probably one of my favorite 556 guns, just fun to run. I also have a 100 ergo build and that with 995 is fun as a tap machine.
TX: same thing as adar, just comically expensive don’t really use it.
102: Feels identical to the 101, which can be really fun and reasonably cheap with second best attachments. Suffers from what I call 556 syndrome and the lack of 60’s really hurts it for cqc group fights.
101: Same as the 102 but with a little less recoil. Really fun as a long range beam.
Scar L: Probably my go to as a sweaty 556 gun. Feels really clean, basically don’t have recoil. Low RPM is the only ehh part, but I kinda like it.
M4: Finally decent again, but for me the worse performance of the bullet compared to M61 or BP doesn’t justify the cost of building being more than a mutant. Haven’t really used it aside from tasks this wipe.
HK: I don’t think I’ve touched one this wipe honestly.
MDR: I hate it. I don’t know why, but I hate it. It’s stinky, it’s a ugly bullpup, it’s not even fun as a meme.
G36: Unlike the HK, I’ve literally never used this. Ive never bought one, I’ve never modded one. Hell I’ve never even KITTED one. 774 raids and 750ish pmc kills, what a waste of development time.
I personally love the look of the MDR the most but with sights I feel like I miss the most headshots with the mdr. For sights I usually run the Valday.
Overall performance, I like the scar the most but yeah ergo takes a good hit.
I feel like the AK-101 is the easiest for me to mod cause until I get 56A1 unlocked I’m really only just running 5.45 AKs

Spend a lot of money to make 5.56 viable, or just buy a 5.45 or 7.62 AK and enjoy the raid.
556 is pretty trash. It's been trash. There are a thousand better SMG rounds that have equal or better fire rates. We're not midgame anymore either. We're pretty deep in the wipe. If you're not fighting up close then the 556 falls off just as bad as most SMGs. So you may as well use 762 NATO. M80 is cheap and packs a wicked punch.
To be honest i would just stick with .366 or vss depending on map. THose weapons are cheap and deadly. i wiped two dude with .366 because they were using armor with no stomach protection. it was like 3 shoot and they dead. recoil is not that bad if you use it in hip fire.

Full auto fire in this game is cancer. The game would be so much better if it were removed completely. It shouldn't be useful outside of point blank range for anything other than suppressive fire and if in ADS it should be impossible to hit anything.
5.56 is straight up bullshit, you either run with m855 and dont give a fuck or spend your tarkov life savings on 855a1 just to meet an altyn user and explode
