  • What’s it like living with someone who contemplates suicide on a regular basis?
Tanya Harrison knows. She’s married to Sergeant Craig Harrison, a former Army sniper who, during a 23-year military career, once held the record for the longest kill in combat. Craig was medically discharged with complex PTSD in 2013 and has suffered with debilitating mental trauma ever since.
He spoke with brutal honesty and raw emotion about his issues in a recent Veterans’ Foundation film. Now it’s time to hear from his wife, Tanya - one of the many unsung heroes who live with partners who battle the psychological damage caused by what they’ve experienced during active service.

Hello, to whom it may concern. Please make sure Craig Harrison receives this information. Please try Ayahuasca, psychedelic mushrooms, lsd as an alternative treatment for PTSD for better enlightning and understanding of their mental health I suffered from ptsd for years and I understood the root cause of the disease is the brain not being able to process the thoughts, memories and feelings the person is experiencing. Helping the brain process these by logical thinking and reenacting the thoughts and feelings so that they might move forward with their lives. The brains main function is to continuously bring back these thoughts and feeling until the brain can understand and process it, that's why in many ptsd cases it's described as constant mental torment with the thoughts never leaving. It's just the subconscious trying to relive the experience so that the brain can hopefully process the memory. It has help me tremendously with my life understanding the disease. Please seek professional help and even alternative cures so that the individual can understand and move forward with their life. Thank You.

Thank you for standing by your husband with PTSD. I served in the US Army and was medically retired in 2013 as well for PTSD. My own family doesn’t understand what I go through and most people that I try dating, as soon as they find out I have PTSD-they run away. I feel like I’m fighting this battle on my own and I also have a 6 year special needs child that needs me but at times I can’t be there for her. Again thank you for speaking out and for supporting your husband.

Both my biological father and my stepfather (my actual dad) both served upwards of 20+ years in the RAF. My dad was a medic and served multiple tours during his service. My mum and him have been together 24 years today. Since he was medically discharged with scholiosis many years ago he is no longer the same man. The trauma and suffering he goes through daily is unimaginable and my heart breaks for him. The support and loyalty my mum provides to him is commendable. While i think he will never fully recover he has given alot of support to the vererans charity and continues to fight. My heart goes out to our forgotten veterans who have fought so bravely, even after their career is over.

I cross the bridge almost every day, and each time it reminds me how fortunate I am, and it inspires me to do everything I can to live my best life. My partner of five years has very debilitating disabilities that totally shut down any hopes for intimacy, most types of outings, jobs, etc. We also both have CPTSD and have episodes of shutdown and dissociation. This video is beautiful because it brings light to the relationships that require a lot of effort because of events we can't control. With love, we may always find a way. My heart goes out to Craig and Tanya and you've definitely inspired countless, including myself. Sent this to my partner because Tanya reminds me of her and Craig of myself.
Lastly, in terms of purpose, Tanya is absolutely right when she tells him that she's his purpose. It isn't a slight, an act of arrogance, or self-centered projection; if it weren't for my partner, I probably wouldn't be here, either. Our purpose is what matters to us, whatever or whoever that is. Luckily you two and your purpose make the world a better place. May you one day feel a warm pride for your perseverance and mutual care.
