All of the labels (alpha, beta, simp.. )and new rules (don't be too nice, feign disinterest...) for dating/relationships have created many of the problems that both sexes are experiencing in this era, as opposed to 70 years ago when people were just "themselves". Of course ideology and standards of conduct are quite different from what they were 70+ years ago.
According to all these types of "relationship" channels/videos, I'm a combination of Alpha and Beta. Possibly there's a term for that I'm not aware of yet. I'm 58, divorced (married twice), university graduate, speak two languages, a decorated veteran (United States), not bad looking... I'm not Brad Pitt, but I don't scare babies and grannies. I was raised to be a gentleman and to be chivalrous towards women. Yes, I am a "nice guy", but I don't grovel nor be used. I'm not rich (nor impoverished) or flashy. I am comfortable with who I am, and don't have to be/don't always want to be in the "spotlight". Am I a perfect "specimen" ? No. I'm partially disabled from injuries sustained in the military. One of which was a severely broken jaw which resulted in being required to wear dentures. Unless I open wide, or engage in deep kissing, no one would know. My neurological injuries can't be seen except an x-ray or similar test. I'm not crippled, nor impotent. Sometimes I am in pain, or temporarily unable to use my hard or arm. It's because of that that I'm retired.
Yes, I'm "old school" in that if you want to get a woman's attention/get her to like you, you give her "flowers" instead of "dead branches". Many of these "labels" are incorrectly defined. I'm very protective of a woman, especially one I like. In fact I was for a time, a registered bodyguard. And no, I didn't advertise it. I don't think that doing a little extra for a woman or being more considerate than another man is "death sentence" or make me a "simp". I also think that women today are told/influenced to want "bad boys". Some naturally do. I have been both trained to kill, and to save a life. I would rather save a life than take one.
I think that everyone (men and women) should just be themselves and think for themselves. Neither gender should have to change who and what they are to be accepted. If I find that my being a "nice guy" to a woman who I'm trying to attract isn't working, I'll try another woman. I won't change myself because I don't want a relationship with someone who I can't be myself with. There should be no "peer pressure" to be made to favor a certain person, i.e. "you can do better than him/her", "he/she isn't educated enough", "he/she was arrested in the past", "he/she isn't rich enough" and so on. My second wife, who married me as i am now, was told by a "mommy" figure at work that she "could do better". So she was urged to find someone else. She did. And he ended up putting her in the hospital after beating the hell out of her two months after she left me. I hope she's happy now. Because while I can "forgive" , I can't forget or trust again.
I will say that both men and women focus too much on the material or physical attributes, to the exclusion of what matters most. That being the heart. Of course physical attraction plays a part, but overlooking someone become they aren't a perfect specimen isn't a good thing. Having a means to support yourself and a spouse/family is a legitimate necessity. But no one should be required to "buy" the affection of another. I would not be able to afford to buy a woman a $5,000 engagement ring, but I could afford half that. And if my heart and intentions are pure, I shouldn't have to (nor will I) use material things to prove my love. Because then it's not real. People shouldn't be termed "clingy" or "needy" because they want to be with someone.
I think both men and women should start thinking and acting the way they truly feel, not how they're told to feel. Establishing and maintaining a relationship shouldn't be a contest or game. My parents were married 42 years. Grandparents 55. They didn't have perfect storybook lives. But their love was REAL. That's what I have always wanted. I'm beginning to wonder if that's a pipe dream in this day and age...???

I really like and respect all of the feed back from this channel. I too believe that personal growth is essential to a happy life, both in and outside of a relationship. I am far from perfect and don't aim to ever be perfect. That's impossible, but I am learning a lot from this channel and all of the positive comment feed back.
