Thanks for getting right to the point! In a new rental home and learning about oil heat.
Happy i could help.
Thank you so much ... now I know I have a little bit more then a 1/4 tank and not a 1/8 of a tank I can make it past Christmas and provide my family with gifts instead until January this is awesome
Thank you so much for saying that the TOP of the disk tells you how much oil you have! I have been wondering (and worrying!) about that for years!!!
Keep in mind, +/- 20 Gallons or so.... Glad I could help. Happy New Year !
@@mrbackyardmechanic3956 Thanks and Happy New Year to you too!
Thank you John! I googled this question and your video came right up. Most helpful!
Glad I could help...
Thanks so much! I was beginning to panic because I wasn't sure if the reading was based on the part in the middle where it changes width.
Well done! Simple and to the point 👍
Thank you so much! Need 🙏🏻it to learn how to read this properly!
Glad I could help.
Hi! I just wanted to thank you this was a big help.
Thank you so much! It has been very difficult to get an answer to my question... Do I read the top or the bottom of the yellow floater gauge. I thought that it would be a simple thing to find an answer to but, boy was I wrong! Delivery comes tomorrow and I now know that we don't have to keep the heat to an uncomfortable minimum tonight because I have about 1/8 of a tank left as opposed to empty if reading the bottom of the float indicator.
I'll be sure to pay better attention so that I don't get this low again that I have to worry about it! Good to know that it isn't going to be entirely empty requiring more money spent to bleed/ prime the thank. Many thanks!
Thank you sooo much... appreciate it.I have the same gauge. Very informative 👍👍
Thanks so much. I've had oil heat for a long time and, as everyone says, never new top, bottom, or middle-ish on the gauge. I have 2 X 275's attached, so I presume I'd just double the amount listed for a 275.
Brilliant! You're the man
Thanks for this. I had a new tank level installed and they never told me how this type reads (had disk type before)
Isn't is amazing that this info isn't spelled out by most oil websites I've gone to. Nobody EVER comments on what part of the yellow marker to read from. A difference of a quarter tank! After getting my tank filled, it's always fully above the full mark and when empty, the top is at the zero mark.
Thank you I got the same one you have ,and is funny I have the same amount 🤣🤣 ,I call the oil company today anyways but I least I know now thanks again
I dont know if you'd have an answer. But how do you remove the level gauge? Meaning that entire piece? Mine malfunction so I purchased a whole new top piece but am jot sure how to remove the top pieces from the tank
Thank you!
Thanks for this insight I call my oil guy funny same name has my oil guy it’s probably him doing this video thanks
My indicator reads 3/4 when the tank is full on my 275, gallon tank is there a way to adjust it, so it reads properly? It showed almost an1/8" higher than yours as shown and they filled it today and it took 98.3 gallons, and it reads 3/4 of a tank now so i unscrewed the glass and tried lifting the indicator and tried to lift it and it barely moved upward, so it was infact, full. Is there a way to adjust it to read properly? My indicator is thin and red, i don't want to hurt anything but, would like it to read closer to full so my wife doesn't panic thinking we are low. The tank was replaced nov.2020 and we purchased in Feb. 2021 paperwork at the closing confirmed new tank and boiler serviced.
Thank You!!
Hey thanks mines is the old style level not like your but the video help some what thanks
How did you determine how much oil your household uses daily and what do you keep your heat on during the different seasons or weather?
I have the heat start at 5:30am to 70 degrees, that's when we get up. Then at 7:00 AM it goes to 68 degrees. Then it goes to 70 again at 2:30 pm. Then 68 at 6 PM then 66 at 10PM until 5:30 AM.
My boiler has a .75 GPH (3/4 of a gallon) nozzle. Google nest tells me how many hours the heat kicked on for, but that doesn't mean the boiler was on the whole time.
For instance, on March 16th, our heat only ran for one hour.
So, we likely used about 1/2 gallon for heat.
Our hot water also uses oil. That's about 1/2 gallon because everyone turns the bathroom into a steam room while taking a shower.
These are only estimates, probably +/- 20 %.
Can you tell me how you calculated how much oil you used per day?
You have to start with a full tank and then Mark on your calendar each day your next fill up. Then you divide the number of days by the gallons purchased. Another words, if you went 200 days and then purchased 150 gallons to top it off, that means you used .75 (3/4) gallons per day. in the summer time for hot water, we only use maybe 3/4 of a gallon. But in the winter when temperatures get below zero, we could use as much as 1 to 1 1/2 gallons per day.
So when your tank is empty does that mean the yellow gauge isn't visible anymore? Like does it dissappear into the bottom of the red part?
I've ran out twice over 17 years in our house. Didn't take note. Also, the gauges are not 100% accurate .
We are now on auto delivery and amazingly when we are down to about 1/4 tank, the oil truck shows up.
When that yellow indicator is just below the 1/4 mark, I would order the minimum that can be delivered due to the unpredictable prices of oil. Call two or three different place too, compare prices. stay warm.
I really don’t see how that’s the case. Under the yellow float is a little arrow and that indicates where the level is. I have two tanks tied together and the top of the float was just slightly under a half yet it took 366 gallons out of 550 to fill. If the top of the float was the mark then I should have only filled 275 max. Also when the tanks are full then the little arrow is at the full mark and the top of the float is at the top of the tube.
Thanks for the comment. Just went down to take a look closer at my gauge. I don't see any arrows. Perhaps you have a newer gauge? I've been on auto delivery for several years now, but it's good to know how much oil one has, although I'm sure not 100% accurate.
I see the arrow on yours in the video below the yellow float. It’s a golden color
Nope. That gold colored thing is a
Crimp. You're funny though. It's the top of the yellow indicator +/- 20 gal. Or so ...
😅😁😬😅
How big is your house I’ve been trying to figure out how much oil I use per day
Happy 2020! I have a 1500 sq ft level ranch and I burn about 3 gals per day in CT. My system is a dinasor at 62 years old. New upgrade soon. If you know your nozzle ( 1gph for me) estimate how long it cycles over 24 hrs for a ball park estimate
mine not that clean so i can not tell
Never knew the top of the disk is what ur supposed to go by, I thought it was the bottom
Well in 2022 it's now 480 a gall up 20 cents from yesterday
Let's see what happens 2 weeks after the primaries, a lot going on worldwide causing volatility...
the 275 gallon tanks do not hold 275 gallons. They hold 225 gallons, rest of space is left for air and crap at bottom of tank. If you wait till 1/4 shows on tank, it should take 206 gallons to fill it(as per your 275 gallon thinking).. but as per 225 gallons a tankful, if filled at 1/4 tank left, it would take 169 gallons to fill. I bet your fill up at 1/4 tank is closer to 169 gallons than it is 206 gallons.
