    If you have one of these Gauges that’s outside. Get a short piece of PVC and a Cap to put over it too keep the clear gauge from getting damaged and Sun Crazed. BTW, that slime is caused by Microbes in the oil, tank should be cleaned and have additives put in the tank.

      I had a gauge on my oil tank but my supplier took it out !!! I even wasn’t aware. Why they didn’t ask me?

    Thank you for showing that the clear cap can unscrew. Mines been stuck at half for a while. I don't want to run to dads for a huge wrench, he'll want to come and do it. I can! I figured out which wrench I'll need jeez!

    I just got an oil delivery today and I went to check my gauge. I look in the glass and I see something moving around. Somehow there is a wasp crawling around in the gauge....

    Question for the pros: What's the best way to screw in the new gauge without damaging it against the sides of the tank? When I put the new gauge in the float drops and hits against the sides of the tank while turning. I thought I was going to break the mechanism while turning so I held up the level indicator rod as best I could so the float wouldn't drop. This was tricky so I could only get one good turn before the float dropped back down again and I couldn't turn it anymore. Thanks

    Came here to learn how they work so I can better understand what a broken one looks like. I have a really scummy ll so I’m concerned and just going down. I appreciate the quality of the video, the shot was perfect.
    If I could ask, how accurate are they? Do you tend to see a lot of broken ones? Float Gauges are pretty cool little gadget tbh.
    Edit: I’m going to get my 1st delivery soon so maybe they check things out first. It’s not the same company it was. Thanks again 😊

    Steve do they make wireless tank gauge? Like a wireless thermostat it could communicate with an app on your phone and tell you how much oil you have in the tank. Send alert when it’s low.

      You need internet to get the signal. I have a vacation home in Vermont on the corner of Monroe MA there is zero internet. So I depend on the Automatic oil delivery every time, BUT if he pulls up and the driveway is not shoveled they won’t make the delivery.

  • @ajf11111
    @ajf11111 Před 2 lety +1

    Great Video as always. We noticed with the last 2 oil fill deliveries that our tank gauge is reading 3/4 full when they are finished filling. We asked the delivery man and he goes by the whistle noise which alerts him when to stop filling. Is there something I could do. Possibly change out the Gauge / float ?

    • @rodneywelch3556
      @rodneywelch3556 Před 2 lety +1

      Be brave, follow this video! Make sure you have a gauge for your tank, check your tank size, whether it is vertical or horizontal. A little pipe dope and wrench and go for it!!

    What's that blue stuff? Can I clean my old one and what should I clean it with? If I buy a new one, how long do those prong things have to be? I have a 300 gallon fuel oil heating tank. Thanks for your help.

    My indicator reads 3/4 when the tank is full on my 275, gallon tank is there a way to adjust it, so it reads properly? It showed almost an1/8" higher than yours as shown and they filled it today and it took 98.3 gallons, and it reads 3/4 of a tank now so i unscrewed the glass and tried lifting the indicator and tried to lift it and it barely moved upward, so it was infact, full. Is there a way to adjust it to read properly? My indicator is thin and red, i don't want to hurt anything but, would like it to read closer to full so my wife doesn't panic thinking we are low. There was a new tank installed Nov, 2020 and we bought the house Feb 2021 paperwork at the closing supported new tank and boiler serviced.

      I did mine for the first time only thing I have a problem with is the float inside from hitting the sides, when you Tighten the cap down, but it looks like the float in glass can come out so you can move the float to the side so it doesn't hit the tank

      @stevenlavimoniere  Před 7 měsíci +1

      they probley installed the float in line with the fill .. so it broke of when filling with oil rookey mistake i always face my tank gauge away from tank fill inlet . you can just replace it but you have to push down the gauge when screwing in to the arm in straight so it dont hit on sides of tank unscrew the top and you can openate the unit by indicator if you have oil in the tank it will want to float so pushing down will straight it out so you can screw the new on in with out damaging it some come apart .the old ones did not .. fase the new one away from fill so it will not get damaged .. get the same one thats there you might just have to change the guts .

      It’s actually gotten better. Filters last longer too. They used to gunk up within a year. Now I’m finding you can get several seasons out of them. Proof that the oil is cleaner.

      A few oil dealers looking to make extra money have been selling bio-diesel instead of home heating oil. That stuff can turn into pudding in the tank, the MA Attorney General has been after a few of them.
