The Final Fantasy series is no stranger to having beautiful theme songs and Final Fantasy XV is no different. We are proud to announce that Florence Welch of the Grammy-nominated and two time Mercury Music Prize shortlisted Florence + the Machine has created her own rendition of the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me” for Final Fantasy XV.
Final Fantasy XV will be released on November 29, 2016, for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Square Enix couldn't have picked a better artist than Florence, she really is the Queen.
Remember when the last FF's, for FFXIII it was Leona Lewis and for FFXIII-2 it was Charice. Those did well hopefully this song will live up to it
+MiggyMac It surpasses it with ease, Florence has an ethereal vocal quality neither of those women possess. Florence's voice is festive and a breathing flowing river of emotion, her music is everything Final Fantasy is to be quite honest. This is as good of a mix as Utada Hikaru was for KH.

I love how she sounds so ladylike and soft when she speaks but can belt out the voice of a musical goddess when she sings. QUEEN.
That intro was so god damn subtle. I had NO emotional connection to any of the characters when I booted this game up. Then they started pushing the car while Stand by me and the FF main theme was playing in the background, that friendly bickering, with the camera panning up for the title screen. My god. I haven't felt seen a intro quite like that since "I guess my summer vacation's.. over."

Agreed when i first started playing i was hoping this wasnt going to be another shit game to add to the list then by the end of the game i was fighting back the tears and just thankful for the game, They just dont make games like this anymore man

I must say that Stand by me is the perfect choice for such a theme. You really feel the friendship in this trailer. Also the fact that they also included typical FF melodies in the cover makes it even more incredible. Sooo good. I never thought I would like a English theme song for a Final Fantasy game but this one did it,

The only Final Fantasy in existence with a Japanese vocal theme is Final Fantasy X.

We have to thank Ben E. King (RIP), if he didn't write such a timeless song, we wouldn't have these wonderful covers. I listened to a couple of others, but it was Florence + The Machines that I listened to first. A beautiful take and Florence herself summed the song up very well. 'Stand By Me' can't be and never rewritten, you can only make it your own and that's a rare thing to come by.
Stand by me is one of my favorite songs, she did such a great job bringing the emotions. The friendship between the group was one of my favorite things about FFxv. It makes me want to cry every time I hear this Verizon and think of them.
All of these years later I still can’t listen to it without crying.
When I thought Florence couldn't make me more proud...

I am a full grown man and don't have time for games. But I cried while listening to this cover. This young lady squeezes my heart as nobody else does in modern music industry. Thank you Florence, let the ancient gods and godesses of art bless your hands and voice.

I remember when XIII came out and I was like...Leona Lewis...singing about hands? I was like, I hope for XV they choose someone like Florence, her style and beautiful voice would totally fit FF, and they answered my prayer thank you Jesus.
+sunheart123 In 13s case the song replaced the one used in the japanese version, and while it fit to a certain extent, it was never meant for the game.
In this case the japanese version of the game is also using this as the theme song.
+DecoyBlackMage Yeah from this video it seems like Square actually asked Florence to arrange the song specifically for the game, so that's amazing. You can kind of hear the prelude in the harp, I hope that was intentional because it would be awesome if Florence consciously blended the most iconic classic FF music into her arrangement.
sunheart123 I was happy as hell just hearing the crystal theme in one of the new trailers.
The music for FF15 so far is some of the best in the franchise so far, and we have likely only heard a fragment of the total score.
That was one of the things FF13 lacked, the classic themes or variations of them, FF13 did have a good score though, but it really lacked some of what made FF a FF.
So I am glad FF15 is using the core series songs.
I hope the soundtrack release on Spotify.

props to Ben E. King, the singer of the original. No one even mentions him in the video or comments. She does do it justice, but it's his song.
Yeah he isn't named by name, but he is praised none the less for his work. I think they assumed everyone with any knowledge on music in general knows who it is by. You don't exactly need to be a music historian to know Vogue is by Madonna or that Respect is by Aretha Franklin. It's something you should just know.
One of my favorite oldies, sung by a musician I like, combined with one of my most favorite game series, and includes the Final Fantasy theme interwined in the melody creates a song that has been truly a pleasure to experience in my lifetime.
I loved it! ..."Stand by me" is not just the game´s soundtrack but a message from Square-enix to all of us, fans of Final Fantasy, to keep supporting and having faith in them.
I have to admit that I didn't expect such an emotional song in the trailer and it really took me by surprise. But it fits perfectly with Final Fantasy XV and it somehow tells its own story about Noctis and his dad. Can't wait for the game!

But just because it's better doesn't mean that I can't appreciate her gorgeous vocals giving this song a beautiful tone. It's not overdone, it doesn't try to change the song a lot, which I hate, and it's just a very nice, well done tribute to a wonderful song.

+Slave2thedrago I'm not all that hot on covers and remakes, either. I have a pretty finely-tuned ear, so songs that aren't the original often don't feel right to me and literally hurt to listen to because they're just too different. This isn't the original, no, but she doesn't change the original to make it more modern and I like that.
I think that's the first time I've heard (or read) someone say 'random chick with the same voice' in regards to Florence. She's not a hugely popular singer, although she's gained major traction recently, but she's got a powerhouse set of vocals. Honestly, if there's anything to gripe about with this cover, it's that it just doesn't play to her pipes well enough. Perhaps she didn't let her vocals go all out because it's not meant to be that kind of song, but she's got a gorgeous voice: one I honestly find a lot more pleasing than most female singers of today. She's smoky, smooth, and strong. She's honestly one of my favorite singers of all time, although her latest album was a little lackluster in my opinion. Her first and second are where she shines.

Disney didn't pick Utada Hikaru though. In fact, Disney's involvement with Kingdom Hearts is actually very minimal. It's mostly Square just doing there thing and occasionally Disney may bump in to have them change a thing or two or give them input in their Disney-related content being used.
+C4DNerd even so, Disney made a game with a company that was well known for its soundtracks. It's not like they got lucky with utada it's more like square Enix continued its great music.

I just played ff15 the royal edition and all episodes I read the is still incomplete game? but I’m glad I had a chance to experience this wonderful game on ps5 beat it 2-15-21 and they had a grown man crying i even had to do another play threw again and it still good.
This song set the tone and theme of this game. I’ve beaten it 3 times and the song playing at the end always makes it perfect

Florence singing for Final Fantasy completely caught me off guard, a much different route than their last two R & B power pop themes which were amazing as well.
This song was so perfect for the ending of the game. I will never see this song the same again. I will always think of this wonderful adventure in this beautiful game every time I'll hear it now. I was already crying from the moment Noctis and the guys were saying their goodbyes on the steps but when this song came on I was crying like a baby. Perfect choice. They were really such a brotherhood and stood by each other's side til the end that I couldn't help but cry when I heard it cause the lyrics were so true to this game. It was beautifully sang too with the orchestra. Great job.
With all the comadre and brotherhood that every FF title has influenced us with, there could have not been a better song for this trailer. Just like all the other Final Fantasys, a group of friends out in the open world that must rely on each other. All need to stand by each others sides and see things through to the end. Here we have 4 long times friends, out together to deliver the prince to his bride to be. Many trials and tribulations along the way cause the group to stand together. All I know is, I'm 40yrs old and I've been playing Final Fantasy since #1 on NES in the 80s and #11 online (the first years) will always be the greatest moment in gaming history for me but, the trailer for XV put tears in my eyes..... big time. It hit the sweet spot most definitely and I will say this is the greatest choice of a song for this franchise. All of its fans stand by the side of its deep history and impact they have on us personally and emotionally. Final Fantasy will be around forever. Even after SE would be gone, FF will be played until there is absolutely no power source of any sort and then it will be role played in person :)
I am a PC player so the FFXV experience is new to me. I was incredible surprised to hear Florence's voice no more no less at the very beginning of the game and as a person who really likesf Florence + The Machine, I was really surprised and impressed. I am really glad that it came as a surprise to me. Loving the journey with these guys and loving the music

Stand by Me by Ben E. King is one of my favorite songs ever. No-one can top his version, but hers is almost there! Her voice is just so damn beautiful, and she brings this new energy to the song that is so wonderful. Thank you Ms. Florence :)

Such a beautiful cover, and a now iconic voice, knew it was her from the first line.
"Stand by Me" was just an iconic song, and was a BIG part of my childhood, because I loved the movie by the same title.
During which time, I was also playing Final Fantasy.
To hear this awesome cover by one of my "new" favorite artists for a "new" Final Fantasy game.... it was a "Full Circle" experience for me.
And it fully fits the camaraderie of the characters of FF15. Seriously, they nailed it.
For me, this song was a full circle. Final Fantasy was my favorite game series growing up, and I always loved it's music and story from each entry above all else. At the same time, I also watched a lot of old movies, including "Stand By Me" by Stephen King. I would listen to the end credits on that movie just for the song by Ben E. King, and now, here I am, an adult, and one of my favorite present-day artists is doing a classical orchestration of one of my favorite songs from my childhood to the series that I have been playing from then to this very day.
And THEN i played the game... and my God, it just sent so many chills and emotions through me. Thank you for this song.

I've never seen this charm and appreciation to be part of the franchise since Faye Fong Wong. Most of the artist that participated in Final Fantasy, I'm looking at you Leona Lewis, wasn't as enthusiastic and engaging as this. Florence is a gift to the series with her genuine appreciation. I just really hope that this game lives up to its hype.

It brought me to tears so many times. the song fits perfectly to the storyline and I exactly feel the same with "stand by me" and the friendship-based plot. Square Enix have never disappointed when they hired famous singers. Leona Lewis,Charice AND Florence are amazing for the series :D
