About the game:
“Crypt Custodian” is a charming Metroidvania game that revolves around the concept of cleaning up the afterlife. The player takes on the role of Pluto, a mischievous cat who has died and arrived at the palace beyond. After a short but disastrous meeting with the Guardian of the Afterlife, Kendra, Pluto is exiled from the palace and sentenced to clean up… FOREVER!
The game features a vast territory to explore, where you can hang out with other doomed ghosts, battle beasts, and discover secrets. The game also introduces new special abilities and upgrades, which can be mixed and matched to customize your play style. The game’s structure includes challenge rooms and the gameplay changes with the introduction of the top-down view.
The game is developed by Kyle Thompson and is highly anticipated by the metroidvania community. It’s praised for its unique approach to characters, lighthearted humor element, and the way it weaves together a story. The game is not yet available on Steam, but it’s planned to be released in 2024

On the topic of the video, game looks interesting. I dig this guy's art direction, which looks pretty similar to his game from a few years ago, Islets. Regarding the story, the dev appears to go for a more "charming" and "wholesome" approach to worldbuilding/storytelling, judging by this game's atmosphere and his other titles. Your suggestion in Part 3 would definitely give weight to who and where you are, but it's possible the aim was to avoid heavier themes and just play around with the juxtaposition of being a cute cat-janitor in hell. I suppose time will tell with the full release, maybe it will get more serious!

great video! i agree with the first boss being dirth instead of spiders, but at the same time i've seen metroidvanias do this thing where the bosses become more relevent as the game progresses. Maybe that's their aim? But I agree with the idea of the whole story covering the game instead of being partial.
