No Hero ship has been this damaged for this long, why Enterprise will always have a special place in my heart.
Well, there was the Battlestar Galactica. You can just *feel* that last jump, after all the accumulated torture of five seasons. But yeah, this is awesome. This is what Voyager should have been like.
Voyager did in the "Year of Hell".
@@tyson31415 it doesnt count, it was reset at the end
..
The Space Battleship Yamato is the GOAT of "I didn't hear no bell!"
It still counts in the sense of it showing the capabilities of the ship
I really like the detail of the damage on the ship. Some of the story arcs irked me, but I did enjoy that sense of a ship barely holding together feel the show had. That WW2 submarine feel to the design, rarely having the most effective equipment/weapons for the job, NX-01 was an underdog and she lived up to the Enterprise name.
The ship resembles the crews face.
An underdog ....just like CV-6 when she was the only carrier still afloat in the Pacific....and was shot up but still fighting.
@@williamhess6783 exactly 💯
Prior to Discovery this season was my least favorite iteration of Star Trek. Season 4 was much better.

I guess the characters are stressed but they sound like they're just about holding off strangling each other.
I like how when the ship is attacked you can see the consequences. Contrast with Voyager that looks fresh out of the shipyard at the start of every episode. Makes battles more impactful.
So back in the days of practical models they didn't want to mess up the model too much so damage was always understated or invisible, or shown off-screen only and so was "fixed" in between episodes. Then came CGI ships where they went to the other extreme, flat out making massive alterations to ships that would amount to major refits just because they felt like it and with no explanation (what happens to the Sovereign Class Enterprise E between movies is nuts - even the nacelles are moved). But the show Enterprise did it JUST RIGHT.
Now that you mention it, seeing voyager age and be cobbled together over the seasons would have been pretty cool
@@genevieve.annabelle3296the year of Hell two-parter gave us what we wanted but scrunched into a two-parter instead of over the entire show
in fairness, 24th century ships have self-repair systems and drones to do the majority of the repairs.
Most of the damage VOY suffered was superficial on the outside, and mostly on the inside.... except for one time in Deadlock where there should have been more visible damage, but even if there is a week between the episodes, that's more than enough time for automation to help seal the deck 15 hull breach and spruce up the ship...
My guess is that VOY made pit stops in other star systems to repaid some major damage in the early seasons (much like some episodes showed them that they were looking for resources in the early seasons).... they just did it off screen.
The show could have literally closed off any inconsistencies with a few seconds of dialogue such as: 'our last week's encounter with the spatial scission anomaly forced us to park the vessel in the nearby star system and conduct repairs, ...' and then continue with other dialogue.
@@deksroning125 The TNG Technical Manual was meant to serve as a "series bible" (minus the character stuff) and what we see there is echoed in the Voyager technical manual which is much, much shorter - because it was supposed to sit on top of the TNG one, with only what was different to be included. But with a hull breach, what we should see is force-fields to hold in the air while repairs can be made from within manually and from without by worker-bee (or the "Sphynx" which is a bigger TNG worker bee). We see these all the time in spacedock buzzing around but each starship carries some as well. The closest we see to drones are the "exo-comps" which now can't be used because they're alive, or something. I think they were afraid of anything that might look like R2 units from Star Wars rolling around fixing things from outside.
Personally I think the forcefields + worker bees would be 100% canon according the published tech manuals AND would look really cool on screen. Both force fields and worker bees are 100% canon and seen on screen at some point, usually multiple times.
We never hear "automatic repair systems" referred to though.
Love the way Trip says "It sure is." when Phlox says times up. It's his way of saying "This is for my sister and for the seven million you bastards killed."
Much as I hated the temporal Cold War BS in enterprise they knew how to run a ship to the breaking point while maintaining pressure in sensible ways.
One of the things I've always disliked is time travel in Trek, they have a universe to play with and can come up with multitudes of stories but they always come back to some kind of time travel.
OK great so GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS TODAY 👍 🙏 🆗 ✝ 🛐
@@mbearlover blame the TNG finale episode. Everybody wants to run on that trend all of sudden.
@@jaqenhghar2970 Read "The Kobayashi Maru" novel.and they had a "DS9" story in it. I don't hate "DS9", but how would their fans like a "Voyager" holoprogramme interrupting their story? "Enterprise" novels should stand alone; it doesn't need any other "ST" programme's "help".
The stakes in TNG didn't seem high outside of Wolf 359. DS9 and Enterprise knew how to make something out of nothing.
I remember being impressed by ENT's CGI in this scene. Believe it or not this was a massive improvement from Voyager a few years earlier.
And DS9 a few years before that, too.
But not TNG which used highly detailed miniatures.
@@avada0 But that got lame and impractical after a while. Star Trek had never shown massive battles with dozens of starships of many kinds on either side, and so CGI swooped into DS9 to save the day!
@@Foebane72 That's s matter of perspective I guess. CGI has only really gotten good enough to not look like crap after Enterprise.
@@avada0 I think STD and Picard CGI looks worse. And if you think that about CGI, you would've hated the (then) innovative Babylon 5's early CGI!
I always wanted to see the INTERIOR repairing of hull damage.
You probably missed all the welding crews. Thats literally what they do: Fix structural damage and close leaks.
@@builder396 They used Flex Seal in the last season.

This series should have lasted a lot longer than it did.
It should have 7 seasons like the other Trek at least. It was underrated by me.
They could have done so much more with them 1st few seasons
I know! They could have covered the rest of the Earth-Romulan War.
Blalock and Billingsley were great. They carried the show.
IMHO it should have ended when the immoral captain stuck the Romulan in the air lock and the Admiral just kind of blew it off like it was another day in the office. Horrid show.
“Try not to scratch it, you’ll remove the makeup.”
Finally one can see actual health issues developing while in the dangerous environment and not have the crew running about perfectly healthy until two seconds before the cumulative radiation is supposed to kill them.
I always thought the TNG episode was more like a countdown until the shields failed, and which point they'd all quickly die.
Now that's cutting it close. Too close for comfort, but when you're on war footing you don't usually have the luxury of comfort.
Indeed.
"That's it, time's up!"

One of the great oneliners before the kill.
T'pol was a good captain. "Always treat Enterprise like a lady and she will take you home ever time." Dr. McCoy to Data TNG.
McCoy : Well, this is a new ship. But she's got the right name. Now, you remember that, you hear?
Data : I will, sir.
McCoy : You treat her like a lady and she'll always bring you home.
Illogical. A starship has no gender.
@@The_Gallowglass You have earned the coveted triple facepalm. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@Rebekah Lindh he was joking. He was responding how Data would
Data would be confused, but I don't think he would just say it was illogical. He'd ask why starships are given a gender.
Trip always had a way with sticking his foot in his mouth when it come to flirting with T'pol LOL. In this episode she finely tell's him her age after he told her she looked like a beautiful old painting after destroying the sphere. That was one of my favorite moments in all 4 seasons.
I like the way she told him her age w/o using the word "old". I'll use it from now on, not "I'm 39" every year like my parents did. She probably didn't tell him when that would be as she didn't want him throwing her a birthday party for her-even if he knew the corresponding date on earth-as she hated crowds.
The ending was trash.
But the whole show is the best star trek in my opinion
Sometimes, one gets nervous when they want to make a good impression on someone and only makes it worse. I got tongue-tied when I first met Walter Koenig. He'd mentioned that he was in the play, " Night Must Play" on the panel discussion earlier and I thought about what I was going to say about it while I was going to say in the autograph line, only it didn't come out quite right, but it wasn't bad either. Later, he and Robin Curtis joined us at a table when a boyfriend and I were eating lunch. I finally got the chance to say what I meant and he agreed. Ray went off to find a mens' room so I asked Robin how to drop him (we really didn't have much in common-he was just there for my birthday). She told me to be honest with him. She was very sweet. My soon-to be ex-boyfriend returned and asked what we said about him. I think even Walter was surprised and whispered, "I'd just drop him. Sounds paranoid" to me. He was and turned out to be controlling. I dropped him.
I love the lasting ship damage, makes it feel more real
This show and the other movies and shows with enterprise truly pay homage to the name. In ww2 the enterprise cv6 carrier got pummeled over and over again but no matter how bad she got beat down she always made it home, never being taken by the waves, And came back fighting.
U.S.S.Coral Sea C.V.43. A.O.
ENT in season 3 did what VOY failed (or rather - didn't even try) to do - ship damage continuity.
True, but remember: Voyager had replicators.
@@BaulSDA yeah, but not shipyard-grade reps. It took some nasty hits. That one small shuttle was built by hand. And not all components are replicator-able (like the organic optic fiber they had integrated into the ship)
@@PetersaberHD yeah, they really kinda forgot about the suspence there. Also the "limited" photon torpedoes.
At least in the "year of hell" they suffered considerable damage before the reset button was hit at ramming speed.
Replicators convert energy to matter, so they’re essentially a nuclear power plant running in reverse: M=E/C^2. They’re obscenely inefficient but no one ever seems to give it a second thought. 😆
@@aperson22222 you are half correct. Being a technology that derives from the teleporter they usually start from inert matter, which is converted into energy and then back to the desired matter.
I guess they could make stuff out of just energy by hooking the replicator to the warp engine since matter/antimatter reactions have a huge output of energy, but i can see it exploding spectacularly.

Nice of Phlox to wait on informing everyone about the effect on their skin and the rotating frequencies until they were in the heat of battle. More exciting that way.
He's an excitement junkie or he would not have joined Starfleet.
He also told "Cpt." Trip-in "The Seventh"-that he needed to give the crew a vaccination shot that might give them the "runs" just as he's eating and also asks if he can ask a couple if he can watch them mate!

Enterprise got off to a rough start (debuting very soon after 9/11) and didn't get the momentum it needed.
@@Tiberion blame generic Star Trek fatigue especially Berman era trek. It was 14 straight years of a Star Trek tv show before ENT even started, and Insurrection and Nemesis both flamed out in the cinema and all this reflected on ENT. Starting right after 9/11 in the US also didn’t help it much.
Also, it was a prequel show so you had the Muh Canon whiners, but 20 yrs later plenty of other trek content has crapped all over said canon so ENT looks better in hindsight

Keeping a good Margin of error.😁
She was IMHO the most beautiful of all main characters in ST.
Rich Jageman, It's not an easy determination, to be sure, and I might be inclined to agree. However, I believe I would reckon on Kes being my ultimate choice. Naturally, it's such a subjective question. I've no doubt that many in the fandom would reflexively select Seven of Nine.

Seven of Nine the Borg Barbie and saved the show but watching Picard I wish they didn’t bring her back was boring as was Boyager the cast had no chemistry how it made it to 7 seasons is just madness but a little T and A brings in the viewers

Personally I only rank TNG higher as far as tv shows go.
I really liked the fact that it was actually about exploration. TOS was more about moral storytelling that any classical Greek or Roman would be familiar with. VOY was about... what was it about again.... oh thats right, running away from the unknown and DS9 was about blowing up the unknown (at least DS9 didn't put me to sleep and make me simply stop caring..... Kate Mulgrew's awesomeness as an actor can only go so far..... hell Robert Redford couldn't have made that show interesting ffs and he might be the greatest actor of all time).
TNG was the only other of the group that really looked at exploring the unknown.
Maybe if Babylon 5 hadnt't been a thing, then DS9 might have been able to get past it, but that is a giant _maybe_ since Sisko had too much of that horribly artificial, patently cheesy, 90's style edgyness for a higher up line officer in starfleet for my taste. (but that does simply mean it is a product of its time, and I do get the rationale in the lore for it too.... I just think that it makes him suck as a member of Starfleet, even if he does good by his command). But I digress.
(not right to judge it against the TOS & TNG movies. movies to movies, minseries to miniseries, tv series to tv series, this tends to keep scope & budget per min a bit more level, though that does still vary a lot.)
Which series was Nest generation? Never caught that one! Was it at least better than Discovery?

The crew of NX-01 turns into The Fantastic Hulkish 180.
Yet Voyager after spending 7 years in the Delta Quadrant fighting many species including the Borg arrived home looking like they just left spacedock
With some 25th century tech as well
Well, this is a ship from the 21st century maybe 22nd, compared to Voyager that is from the 25th... They have better ability to rebuild and fix than they do here. Especially with replicators
That is something I loved about the Xindi arc, the ship became more and more battered as the season progressed
i must have been...19 years old when it premiered. I just finished my love affair with Voyager and so eager for another Trek series. This took some time to hits its stride but it was really REALLY good. Like TNG level good. Shame it never got the seasons it deserved.
The final episode leaves a lot to be desired.

Best ST series
So glad I got this recommendation one of my favorite series thank you!!
Subbed!!!
Although it wasn't my favorite series, Enterprise was still Star Trek in the truest sense and more watchable than STD/Picard for me. I think with the latter series, they compensated for the lack of good characters and stories by over-compensating with the CGI, makeup (like, what even were they even thinking with the Klingons from STD?!) and set design, which was never really what Star Trek was about for any of us hardcore trekkies who watched up to Enterprise. It supplemental eye candy for us, that was at times enjoyable, but we mainly tuned in every week because each episode of any given show would stimulate our intellects on many different topics.
I agree, only if today's CGI was combined with such storylines, Star Trek would take over.
If Discovery was its own thing, not Trek I would be far far happier with it.
Enterprise truly was the last Star Trek. I really don't like Picard and Discovery, but at least SNW is going in the right direction.
