Samsung Galaxy S10e Review - Good Things do Come in Small Packages

- Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy S10e, the smallest and most affordable among Samsung’s 2019 flagship trio of Galaxy S Android smartphones. Of course, affordable is relative here, the phone starts at $749, so it’s not a bargain model. It does however have nearly all the features of the larger and more expensive Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+: same Snapdragon 855 CPU (for the US, Exynos 9820 in other locales), 128GB starting storage, a Dynamic AMOLED HDR10+ display with front camera o-hole, bi-directional Qi wireless charging and the same array of wireless radios. The 5.8” S10e is the most hand and pocket friendly and lacks the curved glass that some find bothersome.

@@bigdogboos1 MKBHD is too focused on video editing if you were a tech nerd/geek you would see that. He's great, but Lisa is way more in-depth.
I am glad that u didn't call it "budget flagship" like some other reviewers.. $700 smartphone are still expensive.. it is just that we have accepted $1000 flagship phone as new normal....!!!!

Its so damn painful that this S series is the last line in Samsung's phone line that has them. Not having it in the Fold or Note is some nonsense especially when they're SUPER EXPENSIVE in comparison to the old reliable S series! No excuses on Samsungs part imo! If they remove it in the S11, thats a F

I want to see more devices of this size again. Have already tried a larger one: no one handed use possible, annoying size in pockets. Back to 5.2". End the phablet-mania!

as an s7 owner who is seriously jaded by all the large, 6"+ sized phones thanks a bunch for the size comparison at the end :)
If my S7 wouldn't still work pretty much flawless i#d take a real hard look at the s10e
The S10E is basically the same size as a S7. Slightly bigger. Maybe 0.1 millimetre bigger

Yes, I had a 7 until recently my dog chewed it up, I loved that phone, so I wanted another 7, but my store didn't carry them anymore, the 8 and 9 were outta stock, so I was shown the s10e and I compared it size wise to my chewed up 7 and decided to go with it, as I was getting used to it, I liked it, but after a week of use, I absolutely loved it and I'm watching this on it 👍👍💯💯💯
The s10e is slightly shorter but slightly wider than the S7. Which is my standard for appropriate phone size. Also, by slightly I mean .2mm or .01in
the silver s10e is VERY STUNNING!

Upgraded to this from my Samsung S7 in December 2020. Verizon had them on sale for $799, but I picked one up off the web for $400, new and wasn't refurbished. Great size and I like the flat screen with the smaller size. I also like the finger print scanner on the power button. Battery really lasts, super fast, and am very happy. Also love my micro SD card for even more storage for photos and videos!!

Get a used iPhone 8 on eBay for 300 and trade in with Samsung for 550. 250 less so price becomes 500 and tax only on the 200 difference you pay to Samsung

@@durlakerone35 my s8+ was refurbished actually AND I absolutely hates the s8+. I couldn't get used to the curved screens and the dimensions were so awkward in my hands and picked. It was awful.

I just got this S10e for a friend who needs a small phone and is frugal. This thing tops my Pixel 4a quite solidly! It's really got everything.

I bought the canary yellow one yesterday, I really need to stop watching reviews though as whatever I went for I knew i'd be second guessing myself. I actually hate having so much choice :-)
I hear you .. .originally I was going to get the S10 e but then I went to Best Buy and checked them out and the regular S10 came with wireless Samsung earbuds ($129) free if I pre-ordered it and so it became almost the same price. I ended up getting the S10 but I watch the whole bunch of videos on the S10e makes me wonder.... Anyway all the best.

Buy a Apple produit experience: pay more, for less, buy 70$ wires that break after 6 months, and the device gets super slow after 2 years due to aggressive planned obsolescence through updates. But it feels so much more upper class to have an iPhone! Yeah, enjoy your ego, I'll enjoy quality with Samsung.
I'm a Samsung user from the beginning. Samsung phones slow down after two years for sure and they break down for no reason sometimes. and they don't have a good customer care like Apple. I still buy them because they are more capable but I wait for a good deal. I don't buy their latest flagships anymore. S10e to me is the best one so far.
@@ot5340 what are you talkin about? I used s6 edge, s7 edge, s9, s9 +, and now s10 and didn't slow even a little bit, after 3 years of usage(s7 edge) and 2 years (s9+).
@@justme3006 you were lucky i guess. None of my Samsung phones lasted more than 3 years except my S4. I hope my S10 does.
@@ot5340 s7 edge was a beast, and still is. About my s10.. my old s9+ battery last longer than s10. Except this, its an excelent phone.

Hello got mine last week . Upgraded from an 8s. I like the small Frame and flat screen. So far so good.
Getting this phone soon! finally a galaxy s with no curved screen! I hace a s9+ and it's been a nightmare finding a nice glass screen protector for it :(

Regarding updates, I think it's CRUCIAL to make it clear that the situation with updates in the USA does NOT reflect the rest of the World. In Europe, for example, Galaxy phones have been receiving 2 major updates and 3 years of security updates. The Galaxy S7 is still getting monthly security updates *on time* each month despite being over 3 years old. The Galaxy S6 is still getting updates. And both of them got 2 years of feature updates (so, 2 major versions of Android) just like the iPixels will get.
So the update problem is mainly a US problem. And it's mainly a US-fault problem, since it's American carriers that derail the entire process. In Europe, where carriers have no power whatsoever, Samsung can push the updates directly to unlocked phones without the need to get "approval" of carriers.
It's also a problem in Canada. Was close to getting an iPhone XR because I knew that Apple updates are carrier independent.
Thanks for bringing up the omission of the telephoto lens. It's the only reason I am gonna go with the regular s10.

Love the flat display & headphone jack. This is definitely a winner. The display HDR10+ another nice feature. I agree the XR, a second class citizen!
I don’t get all the fuss over the headphone jack in this day and age with wireless technology getting better.It’s just an ugly hole in the device that is no longer needed.

@@davidjacobs6244 the headphone Jack is very convenient. If I want to listen to music on my phone i don't have to worry about my headphones being charged. Wireless headphones are just another gadget I need to charge and run up my electricity even more, while worrying about its battery life

A really good review... It's the phone to get if you want a flat screen and you want to save a hundred and fifty bucks... But if you go to Best Buy and compared it the regular S10 they're almost exactly the same width and the S10e is a hair bit thicker but the S10 is definitely taller... I really recommend you go to Best Buy or somewhere and see them in person. I wish they would have made the S10e a more compact phone. Seems a lot of people are buying the s10e so maybe next year we will see a real compact phone, something with a 5 inch or even 4.8 screen.
honestly this review helped me finally make the purchase decision to go for the s10e, honestly a good phone especially coming from a Note 9 user which was already an excellent phone

I just got my Prism Blue Galaxy S10e 1 week ago, upgraded from galaxy S9, only thing I was worried about was the lower res screen, but actually makes the S9's screen look like garbage compared with the new Dynamic AMOLED screen technology from Samsung, over 100ppi less density on the S10e but comparing them side by side with S10e on vivid setting the 10e's display makes the S9's display look pretty old. The S10e's panel is sharper, much more colorful, actually looks higher resolution than the S9. I'm also loving the Snapdragon 855 SoC, soooo much snappier than the 845 running Android P with OneUI on the S9, plus twice the storage and 2GB of more faster ram to a total of 6GB LPDDR4x Ram setup as a PoP on top of the 855 SoC. The fact that it has no curved display is such a great feature of this phone you dont get with the other S10 series models, I hate the curved display, and the power button fingerprint sensor is lightning fast I tap my thumb against it, once its gotten used to your finger it just takes a tap of on mine is my right thumb and it instantly unlocks the phone and you can pull down the top pull down menu without having to reach clear up to the top of the screen by turning on the bbn option that let's you pull it down partway or all the way depe DC ing on how much you slid your thumb down or we whatever finger you use and you can collapse the menu by sliding your finger up on the fingerprint.
These were my exact thoughts when I had to pick s10 or s10e and I'm perfectly fine with it the s10 may look a tiny bit better but I personally prefer the finger print sensor and the flat screen. The curved screens are a bit unappealing when watching something and typing isn't the best
I got mine yesterday and I'm liking it but I don't like that you can't use the flash with the wide angle camera. Even my smelly old LG G6 could do that.
Best phone I have ever purchased love everything about it and I would advise anyone to get it it’s well worth it

S10e is great only marred by bad ergonomics with the fingerprint scanner placement.
Motorola with a Snapdragon SD600 series @ $300 is rather expensive considering the price of a pocophone.

Lisa! I was sold on this phone, but your comments on the main "28 mm" lens have me wondering. BUT: if you use this lens from a distance away, then crop in, you have removed the distortion, yes? Or no?

Ige had a chance to hold this phone in my hands and like it a lot. The size is great and all it's only missing the third camera and the ultrasonic fingerprint reader. I cam buy the Exynos version in Europe for 590 dollars right now. I'm really tempted right now. 🙂
