FINALLY, a human who put something like this together. You're doing humanity a huge favor, and hopefully many people find this video before turning to surgery/giving up.
Word 👊
Exactly
TF you mean, "a human"? Sus af bro

@TheRealMycanthrope dude facts, this guy definitely an alien studying human anatomy.
Went through your assessments. Turns out my problem area is all of them lol
Time to get to work!
Would love to see a video like this on the mechanics of hip mobility and flexibility. Awesome work
Agreed
Hip, hamstrings and calvs 🤷
This!
@kiz__
I'm pretty limited in calf mobility. Can't get my knees further than 7 -- 10 cm over the toes.
That just about allows me to squat correctly with a barbell.
Even if I work on improving it, there's hardly any change.
And a full bodyweight squat isn't for me. I would like to be proven wrong on that. But it seems far out of reach for me.
Hips and calf mobility are important enough to be explored, I think.
@@larsnystrom6698it can be a limitation of your bones in the ankle joint. Not everyone can do extremes knee over toes. I was born with clubfeet and have a shallow/low ball-and-socket ankle joint and cannot dorsiflex more than 5-8° past 90°. I do toe squats instead of regular to target the quads
I'm amazed by the quality of the content and the ammount of knowledge in your videos. For months or even years I couldn't find anything that even compares. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. What you describe is a big part of the motivation for making these. I love to share the tools & frameworks to help everyone level up 🤙
💯💛
Couldn’t have said it better!! Such amazing content!
My 30th birthday is in two days and I'm not buying a new pair of headphones or a concert ticket. My birthday gift to my self is going to be the mobility and flexibility tool kit. This video makes me re think my fitness perspective from body building to strength through length 💪 Thank you for this free video and I'll be sharing it with all my colleagues and get them to get on the tool kit too!
Wow man, I appreciate you!
Just sent a screenshot of this to the team 🤙

@matthewismith .. so Let’s presume I have all the advantages in my shoulder to do a proper handstand. But I’m anatomically very limited in full locking out or straightening my elbows wich causes my bodyweight always to be on the opposite side and instead being able to stack properly I’m always muscle fighting against it.. Any suggestion ??

This is the best video about shoulders I've ever seen, thanks for sharing!
Thanks buddy!
18:45 Matt fixed what years of calisthenics ‘broke’ in my shoulders. Part of the reason I made so much progress in the 100 day transformation was that he specifically targeted my ‘weak links’ with efficient methods. Much like past me wouldn’t believe what I can do now, it amazes me how bad I was. I even struggled to hold a squat bar on my back. Solid video and love the cgi work!
Thanks buddy! You smashed it during that period - went all in and it showed 🤙 was a lot of fun
Are you the guy who could do hamstring and human flag within 100 days
@@jacobharris954 Yes - I made huge progress in those areas.
I need this. Squats hurt my shoulders and wrists because of my terrible range of motion.
I thought i knew shoulders… truth hurts, but I can’t wait to truly test what is holding my shoulder flexion back. Thank you for this incredible free content.
Happens to me all the time... I have consults with researchers every week and I'm constantly blown away with how much I didn't quite realise. It's how we get better. The more you learn the more you realise you don't know. It's trite but true. Thanks for the kind words - feel free to get in touch if you have any questions with it!
Been improving my shoulder ROM a LOT after a proper assessment from your video. However, after years of partial ROM pullups, my lats are still limiting factor for me (130-140 degree flexion in leahy test). Are there any good stretches for the lats to where you can easily track progress? The pole stretch is awesome, but hard to track progress. Any tip or reference would be much appreciated
@@MatthewismithHow do you set up consultations with researchers?
Learnt a lot through the production of this video and creating the 3D Anatomy and now I know far too much about shoulders but this will be super helpful in my own handstand journey, within sports and other movements. Also there are hardly any other anatomy diagrams or models going to full range of motion throughout the internet!
Would love a video of hip/pelvis mobility and proper muscle function... Lots of people hurting or locked in these areas. Thank you so much for all your content!
I have been dealing with the lack of mobility in my left shoulders for a few years. In an attempt to improve my mobility, I have watched hundreds of videos. This is the first video that provided a detailed explanation and a process that would allow me to not only focus on where it is needed. It is very easy for me to tell I lack mobility, but now you have provided me a way to test where the actual problem resides and start a directed approach for corrections. I am looking forward to doing the testing this evening, and actually starting on my path to more mobility. Amazing video.. thank you for your time and effort putting this together.
How did it go?
Everything I've been trying to learn about the shoulder, all in one video 👍
This video is so amazing that i am out of words. Thank you!
How is this free ? This is so... indepth and comprehensive. Feels like I accidentally by-passed a paywall somewhere.
I'm working on my Back-Bridge right now and this revealed two things that are limiting my overehead shoulder flexibility.
Wow! This is the most comprehensive explanation of shoulder function I have ever come across. Amazing content
Incredible editing and a vast amount of knowledge!

The most comprehensive video on this topic I have ever seen!
This was by far, the most logical, simple explanation of shoulder mechanics I've seen. I've struggled with motivation to fix my shoulder mobility for almost a decade, mostly due to the confusion, contradictory information out there. Matthew's evaluations make so much sense...I can't wait to get going after I'm cleared from my RC repair.
I appreciate the kind words!
Good luck with your recovery

Epic video. Thanks for the info Matt
Great stuff, mate! Many thanks ❤
I'm only 1/4 through the videa, and are already impressed and subscribed.
And I actually know a lot about shoulder mobility.
But I have been maintaining my shoulder mobility mostly by full range exercises, mostly in gymnastic rings, hanging leg raises, and such things.
My basic build is with not so great mobility, so I have to maintain what I got.
An amazingly informative video. Thanks!
What a gold mine. Thanks a lot Matthew. I'll try and test all of the factors you've mentioned.
Thanks! If you have any questions with it - feel free to get in touch. Happy to help!

Over 20 years of movement experience here I've stumbled onto most of these gems but I haven't had the need to build a great way to explain it in cohesive manner. you've done great work here. Hope to meet in the future.
Thank you for this video
Incredible video sharing a lot of smart ideas. I would love to see a video of yours talking about ankle sprain rehab. It might just help me and a lot of people out there who watch your videos
This is pure gold, thanks for the information. I will have to come back and digest the video minute per minute.
Glad it was helpful! There's a lot of subtle details placed in here. I suspect it'll take most a few watch throughs to really digest and apply it.
Breathing are also very important part for ribcage and shoulders mobility and function. Amazing video .
Oh my god, the bit about the lat stretching at around 11:30 is so cool. I climb twice a week and love overhead pulling movements, but yoga poses and stretches I've found online for the lats never really do much for me - they just don't elicit a stretch response. About 6 months ago I happened to figure out that if I sit in a wide-legged child's pose and walk waaaaaay over to one side, I get a stretch. After 30 - 45 seconds the response dissipates, so I twist my spine to create rotation and the stretch then moves into the lower back. This is almost EXACTLY the same as what you show in the video and it now makes perfect sense why the stretch works so effectively for me. For anyone else watching who would prefer to be able to do the lat stretch on the floor instead of a doorway or pole, I hope this helps!!
Nice one for intuitively figuring that out - now you know the theory 🤙the real magic with the pillar version is when you push with the free hand. It's hard to beat.
great information!! thank you so much!
I hope this becomes a full series of videos where you walk us through various main muscle groups.
You're like a scientist, man. This is brilliant stuff
