  • The 2024 kayak bass tournament season is underway. Stop #2 on the schedule is Shelby Lake, a 900 acre freshwater lake located in Gulf Shores Alabama, inside of Gulf State Park. Come with me as I embark on my first season of tournament fishing. I'm new to the sport and trying my best to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can in order to be competitive.

Thanks for the shout out buddy! Those conditions got tough on us later in the day. Very unique fishery. I’d like to try it again on a less windy and overcast day.

You're welcome. I love fishing there in October when we camp, and I much prefer Middle Lake over Shelby.

Got to respect Mother Nature ! You said the most important thing
    “I had fun”
Do that and you’ll never have a bad trip!

Yeah, there's nothing more powerful and majestic and scary than Mother Nature. Thank you for watching, I appreciate you!

Take a look at the red eye shad lipless by strike king those are big bass magnets, just not in wood. That 5 inch worm is also a killer but time must be taken , If you think you are fishing it to slow, slow it down more. A small hop or scoot along the bottom will be a trigger. Great video ! Stay safe. !

It's funny you mentioned the red eye shad...i bought one about a month ago. Haven't used it yet, and most of the water in this area has a lot of wood, but I know a couple of places that are more grassy that might work out better. Thank you for watching!

Yum Dingers are great lures and even better they are not expensive, I only use the Junebug color and I use it year round, never fails to produce. Texas or wacky.. Sometimes bass are particular about what type of top water they will hit. I have never had much luck with a popper or a walking bait, but I do well with a baby torpedo and whopper plopper or similar - good video, keep at it

Thank you sir. I caught my very first soft plastic bass on a Yum Dinger so it's become a confidence bait for me. I might have a June bug color... I don't know how y'all remember the colors of your lures once they are out of the packaging 😂 I appreciate you watching and commenting. Thanks a bunch!

@@yakkittymack Junebug will be a grape color with green flake - I remember it because it's about the only color I use LOL

@@CrankingYanking hahaha ok, that makes sense. I don't have that color.

I think you should consider throwing some spinner baits and crank baits. First time I ran into winds on the resivour I made it a rule to not go out if the winds are over 15mph and that's in my jon boat. I haven't had my Quest Angler 10 out there yet. Hopefully this year.

@monzsterman I think you're right. I've gotta be more versatile. I have some crank baits but I don't even own a spinner bait. I can promise I won't be on the water in conditions like that again. It's the first time I was scared on the water. Thanks for watching. I hope you are feeling better... spring is right around the corner.

@@yakkittymack yea, cant wait to get out on the water. Been feeling pretty good. Problem Im having right now is retrieving my boats. We recently had the siding redone and our gravel driveway redone so I had to move my boats and trailers to the back yard and we have had so much rain I cant get them out without tearing up the yard, which my wife is not a fan of but just may have to do it😂🤣😂

I've got the same kayak. It's super stable but when water is splashing in the boat conditions are BAD! My last day of fishing back in November it got like that and I began thinking about the fragile nature of existence.

By the way, Jeff, I went ice fishing with a buddy on Sunday and we caught 15 bass. Went ice fishing the week before and caught zero. It just goes to show how unpredictable things are on the water!

It's odd you said that, because as I was white knuckles peddling back to the ramp, I couldn't help but think about the raw power I was up against and how I was no match. By far the most nervous I have been on the water. I'm gonna have to Google ice fishing for bass... I didn't even know that was possible. 😂 I'm sorry you had to fish on ice, but I'm glad you got to fish!! Thanks for watching as always!
