  • Hey CZcams! First and foremost, thanks for watching my reviews. The more people that check these out the more I can dedicate time to this stuff (which I love)!
    Wondering if you are a good fit for the 2020 (or 2021) Specialized Enduro? Who is it for? Where does it excel? Is it versatile? I try and tackle all this and more in the review!
    This bike is very purpose built, and possibly the single best bike I've ever thrown a leg over. Does that mean its perfect? In its element its as close to perfect as I've found. That said, it is a bit more of a one trick pony than "enduro bikes" of even a few years back. Tune in for the full scoop from a washed up 35 year old "pro" racer and product tester...

    The mountain bike community needs more Jeffs in it. Finally someone who doesn't just read you the geometry numbers and then conclude the review with a nice "climbs like a goat, descends like a dh bike". Thoughtful relevant discussion and an honest opinion in regards to who/what the bike is really for and bonus points for humor along the way. Keep doing what you're doing. I for one would support you on Patreon if you began pumping out more videos. Really like your approach to reviews and respect your opinion.

    Excellent review.
    I personally own an S3(after waiting 5 months on) and hands down best bike I've owned. 100 percent agree with you on your review. I love this bike so much that ill gladly point out the cons which you pointed out and some you've missed to help others know about. Slow but comfortable climber(don't ride with others on short travel bikes expecting to keep up), rattling swat box/bottle holder(line opening with black duct tape to tighten seal), rear shock bolt and rear axle will work loose if you don't torque it, and wheelset being the weak-link of stock components. I've decided to force myself to ride it stock(minus color bling parts) until parts break to give it a fair chance for specialized's choice of parts and must say its solid out the gate 6 months later besides wheels. My riding is east coast and some Colorado and Nevada, perfect bike for aggressive descenders who have the patience to pedal uphill.

    Your reviews and bike insight are always spot on! Ever since this new Enduro was released I've wanted one... But like you said I know this isn't the best choice if you can only have one bike and need it to do everything. So I currently have an order in on the new Stumpy Evo. Sounds lame but coming from a bike without space to mount a bottle in the front triangle, I'm so stoked I'll have the SWAT system haha.

    Great review with real ridding insights rather than using the spesh marketing jargon.
    I’ve had the 2022 s3 expert now for a couple months and despite the price coming down since 2020 model it has a good spec, fox 38 elite, float x2, x01 and a one up 180mm dropper. I swapped out the rear hub for a hydra and put gravity schwables on other than that left it stock. Rides great and the slogs up are rewarded with insane speed on the downs. I’m still messing with suspension/stem settings as I’m finding it tricky to achieve desired front end grip in fast direction changes although still faster than any other bike I’ve owned, maybe it’s because the back is just so good!

    I’ve drooled over the newest version of the Specialized Enduro since they came out a few years back. I had my Specialized Stumpy stolen from my garage when I was in the hospital having a surgery and have been without a bike for almost 2yrs now. Hopefully I can find a good condition used Enduro and I can get back on the saddle and dust the gear off to shred, I’ve found a few for sale near me but they are always an S3/Medium which is too small since I’m 6’2”. One day I’ll end up getting one. 🤞🏼

    Nice review, I'll 2nd everything except there are some circumstances (repeated large square-edge hits) the rear sus can feel like it's overwhelmed, it loses that magic-carpet-ride feeling and gets harsher and more hung-up. This is where a true high-pivot would help, but of course there are trade-offs and the bike is awesome most of the time. Mine is also 37 lbs with 38, DHX2, cush core and Wild Enduro tires. Not the best for long distances, maybe I'll get a new Stumpy to go with it, it sounds like an amazing trail bike. I'm also keeping mine for '21, even with a low-level sponsorship it doesn't make much sense to get a new one, I'll put that cash into a Stumpy instead... I also like my raw carbon. ;)

    I stumbled across this review whilst googling for enduro 2020 with coil shock or something like that... great review! I bought a 2020 expert with the DPX2 and the 36 performance. Kinda crap spec for such an expensive bike although i did get it new and nearly 40% off retail so can't complain! although I know a lot of people switch out the shock to coil i was also wondering about the performance of the RockShox select deluxe plus as seems like a lot of people sell theirs and if i'm honest i'm not sure i'm loving the DPX2. Got any thoughts on that? Or never used a DPX2? It is my 1 and only bike but then i have the Swiss Alps down the road and ride there for weeks every summer so it works out just fine :)

  • @mulisha191
    @mulisha191 Před 2 lety

    I agree to a certain extent, i just got a 2022 enduro and I came from a 2017 Marin short travel 27.5 bike. Comparing both as far as climbing in long trails, the enduro takes the sun without a doubt. I don’t race but I do like to push the limit on my strava PR, that being said, I do not regret getting this bike even after watching this video. I always heard that the enduro is a more race bike than all mountain donut all bikes, I don’t agree. If it can race and offer the comfortable ride on a hard race course, why not have that on your local trail? Why not have the peace of mind of a local trail instead of being unsure your trail bike being capable of handling a local trail?
    All in all. Great video, don’t agree 100% but enduro is a great bike without a doubt, as my new “do it all bike” mainly cause it’s my only bike, I’m more than happy with it.

    • @JeffreyJim09
      @JeffreyJim09  Před 3 lety +4

      I have a whole season on the older one. I think they addressed all my concerns from the last evo to the new one. It’s going to be more versatile while still being a formidable choice on the race course depending where you live and your ability. My $0.02 is the enduro is a far better race bike for hacks while still rewarding top level riders. (More forgiving.) The evo would take a top rung bike handler to pilot to the top step; a modern day nico.

I have Ibis Ripley (which I will be keeping and do not want to abuse) but I want to learn bigger jumps and do more bike park lift service - fortunate that within 2 hours drive from my home there are quite a few of them. So my question is which high long-travel enduro should I get. I am contemplating Enduro, Megatower, Wreconing, Ransom, and Firebird. I will probably buy a lightly used one so it should be a 2020 model... I am 6'1 and approximately 200 lbs. No racing at this point, moving towards once per year hobby self-shaming. Basically long travel for fun... Which of these would you suggest?

    • @JeffreyJim09
      @JeffreyJim09  Před 3 lety +3

      100%. I am big, and often hit stuff hard. I never had a metal on metal bottom out. Another way I can tell if a coil works is how much I end up flatting. Coils on linear bikes I end up doing horrid things to tires. Never had that issue on the Enduro. I also wasn't "over springing" the shock to keep myself off the bottom out bumper nor was I running much compression damping. Net takeaway - go coil coil if you want to go coil!

      @@tobyfried9148 hey dude - two things. One, the X2 is a more linear air shock compared to say a Super Deluxe. Second, I don't think you'd have a problem running a coil if you had the right spring rate. I'd look at the EXT or 11-6 for you however, you may find it to be more resistant to harsh bottom outs due to the way the shock is designed.

    Well conveyed Sir . Nice ride EXCEPT for the color ! WTH is it with all the 1969 psycho-delusional colors these days ? Designers please Leave the magic mushrooms alone and offer up classy race inspired paint schemes . Nobody truly likes torquoise but girls and girly boys .

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DON'T DO METAL PISTONS!
    The inner bore of the brake caliper is aluminium. If you put in a plastic piston, it's not a problem. If you put in a metallic piston, even an aluminium one, you can scratch the inside of the bore. The surface that acts as a sealing surface for the piston seals.
    I'm not saying that the piston will in fact rub, as it does run on two seals, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to risk it and try it out.
    A caliper rebuild kit (a new piston and some parts with it) is what, 15 to 20 USD. How much is a new lever? Because if you scratch it enough to leak by itself (through the scratch) or damage the seal, accelerating the leak, you will need a new lever body.
    The pistons are plastic for a reason (well, two reasons, one of them being the cost).

      This isn't true. I can say this for a multitude of reasons...
      1) Dirt bike master cylinders are often (usually) metal. The metal is not actually touching the bore.
      2) I've been using that brake for hundreds of miles without any issue. (proof is in the pudding)
      3) Many of my old racing buddies work for...SRAM! I've bounced this idea off of them, they saw no issue with it.
      I'd encourage everyone who runs into the problem of a sticky piston to go this route. Note the reviews, too www.amazon.com/EXNAVI-Internals-Rebuild-Piston-Assembly/dp/B07PG8CX72/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=CODE+R+piston&qid=1605117101&sr=8-7

    Great review man! Right now is a great time to buy one. For what I've seen on Pinkbike, it's the cheapest carbon bike or frame you can get (with these specs), and doesn't seem to be outdated in regards to geometry. And as per the rumor's, there's a new Enduro coming for 2024, so this current generation will be even cheaper. I can't wait to get my hands on one.
