I’m in my late thirties so yesterday is of no surprise. I’ve been seeing Arsenal stumble when it matters in the league for 20 years. What I will say is that they need to make sure they take it to the final game and ask the question. Because as much as we talk about no title for 20 years-we also haven’t taken a title race to the last few games in 20 years either.

Keep in mind this is a young squad. Bukayo is 22 and Martinelli is 22. Those are two of our key players. Yes, they got guys hitting there primes like Jesus and Odegard now at 25. Some of these young guys need time still to maximize there potential. Look at how far Odegard has come since they got him. People got to remain patient. It speaks for itself how difficult it is winning.

It's hard to find answers after such a huge disappointment yesterday. But there is certainly no doubts about Unai Emery's credentials as a top class manager anymore. He has defeated both us and City in a convincing manner this season. So,its fitting comeuppance for those who showed him and Granit the utter disrespect they never deserved.

The player profile given to him from Wenger didn’t fit with his philosophy and I can 100% say he doesn’t do well dealing with drama queen players like Aubamayang or özil. He’s a very smart and tactical coach but he isn’t and agresor nor does he confront or punish guys.

What I found baffling was the amount of pundits and ex players saying Arsenal would beat Villa no problem. Yet Villa nearly always raise their level against us and are a really dangerous counter attacking team with a very good finisher in Watkins. I was very nervous about the match and hate that it proved to be one of those games.
I just think that when we aren't at our maximum level teams have a good chance, where as a City can be 2 levels below their best and still grind out wins, it was the same with title winning Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal teams of the past too.
Our game requires so much intensity that when the fixtures build up its too hard to maintain that level that blows teams away. If we had that elite finisher then maybe it wouldn't be much of a problem and as we know currently in modern football there are a shortage of elite finishers.
However on the positive side, if you can wipe your mind clean of what has happened and I said to you "if City draw their next game and Arsenal win we go top in mid April" I would bitten your hand off for that position.

      @danielkrawczyk3341 Před měsícem

      Well firstly
If they had taken their chances in the first half we would have scored 3-4 goals
So the pundits weren't wrong in that regard
This Havertz performance just shows why we need a no. 9
      EG Gyökeres
He got put in like 4 times and he fumbled each and every time this game
It was just like at Villa Park
Miss our chances and they take theirs
When they scored I just stopped watching cuz I knew they were not going to turn it around
Martinelli has been so poor since his return
The lack of indepth in the squad is so telling
But you still got to use them
I would have started the B team in the first half
Before the game started I knew it was about patience to score
Instead they went all Gung ho in the first half
Drew blanks and it went downhill from there
Mikel has to stop domination theory cuz we don't have the squad for it
And become practical like he did at Brighton
I want to see Vieria playing on the left with Martinelli
      They better win at Bayern
Otherwise the ship will sink again

Last year came down to injuries and vital key injuries to Partey, Saliba, Tomiyasu and some of our offensive players burnt out like Saka. Also Ramsdale leaking goals. This season has been a much tougher season with all of our competitors (a few not) improving the squad. The issue for Arsenal this season is they corrected the defense. The defense though currently looks burnt out. The offense lacks creativity from a creative hub outside of Odegard and Jorginho when he’s at his best. Clinical finishing also an issue when they need goals.

In those identical fixtures last season, City won 3, drew 2, lost 1, so took 11 points from possible 18. We were just done tactically and they were more drermined and we were not clinical enough. So fair play Villa. As I said when I was on the phone in at the end of last year, IF we are there or there abouts come this time of the season then we have a great chance. As for the striker conversation, as you said, who is available, but also…..have we been a bit obsessed by this? We’ve scored so many goals and just this weekend have been finally caught up by city and only by one goal. Havertz can be that guy up top, I believe it now. And I know he killed us, but Ollie Watkins, what a player. I would go for him since he can help cover Saka when needed and can also shift to striker. The switch that created the goal that came from that side was off the back of a set play, if you watch it was martinelli who lost his man no zinchenko. Zinny Gabriel and havertz are all on the right side. Rice and saliba are on the left which led to all sorts of confusion. You have to question when significance is out of balance. Football, Arsenal, can be an important part of your interest, but if your treating it as life you have to start asking yourself some serious questions. As for sitting in judgement over anyone, supporter, player manager - we can use our eyes, we can make assessments, be critical, unhappy disappointed - we should include the fact that we don't know why someone else has done something, what factors their considering, what do they know we don't, injuries, load, strength weakness, balance, opposition.

So when we say is not over we expect arsenal lose less points than city with the matches remaining?? With city finding their end of season form, and us last time we were they we did not make it. I’m so so disappointed, now I’m going to Munich with fear and bad bad feeling!! Plus you can have anger when you lose 6 points against villa, 5 against Fulham, and teams like that!!

This City team will be known as one of greatest teams of all time (albeit with some dodgy financial practices), so it's going to take something special to take it down. That said, I desperately want us to give a good account of ourselves in this run in, which we can still do, but the major worry I have is the fitness levels. And it's not just team tiredness but also the condition of our dynamic attackers. Saka, Martinelli & Jesus are all operating well below what they are capable of when fully fit. I hope I'm wrong on this, but it feels like we're almost again in 'run out of gas' territory.

Zinny is a really good squad option to have when we are playing teams we expect to dominate possession and that aren't as dangerous on the counter. He is also ok if you have a 6 playing that can cover him defensively. However Timber was brought in because he can do what Zinny does but is much more of a solid defender and far more athletic. Expect so see Timber in that LB role next season.

He’s never really gotten to that form where we initially signed him last season and he has absolute killer form until he got injured before the World Cup. He’s becoming like Partey.

All the ills of today's performance can be laid at the feet of Arteta's selections and substitutions. They were unfortunately emotional and arrogant. He believed that his coaching could override the natural dispositions of players.
It was a pre-Dubai team selection with pre-Dubai results (plenty opportunities but an inability to score). As a fanbase we've been very superstitious about what happened in Dubai and how it transformed us. And of course we dont know all the secret sauce tactical, cultural, and psychological interventions used- but it is clear that one major visible transformative pivot was positional- Havertz as the centre forward, the 4 part midfield with Jorghino as base, etc. It is telling that the first game that we reverted to the pre-Dubai shape we got a pre-Dubai performance and result. Cause and effect. Let's learn that lesson quickly!
Our flaws against Villa were entirely positional. And those affected individual performance.
Im stating the obvious: Havertz should have started as centre forwatd not midfield. Jesus should have come on as a second-half sub- and then to replace Saka. Martinelli needed to start because this match was supposed to be a match for sprinters. Trossard should come on in his best role as high-impact substitute. Jorghino needed to start in the midfield and he and Rice could have alternated roles- on top or sitting deep- during the game according to the workload and to confuse Villa. Tomiyasu should have started over Zinchenko for defensive solidity. We all know what has worked in 2024!
By messing with the line-up Arteta messed with the team's flow, and we are at a part of the season when flow is supreme, when muscle memory can serve you well to get over the exhaustion and injury line when you're knackered. Players should get rest by playing only 45- 65 minutes- not by sitting on the bench during their most productive period. A post-Dubai team selection puts away those chances we were presented..
Arteta's unnecessary tinkering derailed the campaign last year pre-City, and he needs to learn the lesson quickly that Frankenstein monsters dont work for title charges!. Let the team be the beautiful Monster that it originally was post-Dubai. Now is not the time to tinker and second guess. Play People in their natural positions!!! There's nothing as tiring as having to act against type- and the team today simply suffered from being miscast...
Look, I love Arteta, but today he just got it horribly wrong.
The other issue is that it is time we formally designate Unai and Villa at home as bogeys. The reason why this is important is that Arteta and this Arsenal have overcome every single bogey systematically. Lets officially put Unai and Villla on the bogey-destruction whiteboard and execute. Next to Bayern...
We can still win everything by beating every team in front of us (and praying that City slip up at least once!)- the Super post-Dubai Team can do that with a cleverly used subs bench. Lets learn that lesson. Let's go, you Gunners!!!

Arsenal winning the league is done - Probably and mathematically it's Cities!
Technically however it's not done - If Arsenal don't work to max points and goals in the remaining fixtures - that's a much bigger problem than the last two results. Arsenal need to be playing for now and their future opportunities. Doing less will dent that momentum more significantly than a couple of fixture results.
As for suppoters leaving when things get tuff for the team. That's not a supporter that's the actions of a rat leaving a sinking ship!
