    Wow, the tech. available for RC now is amazing. AMain got it! Fantastic, in-depth review as always Brett. The end of the studio presentation was very professional and I can't help but feel a little bit disappointed with that!

    I have been using this for a while now in my rc plane and with a little bit of work in a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) you can extract the speed and altitude data for every second of the recording. My Excel program now shows the planes flight path, speed and altitude (adjusted for height above the flying field) in charts which is much more useful than just the maximum speed and altitude shown in the recommended App. The device can do more than the manufacturer suggests.

      AMain Hobbies Brett.. I have a question.... in relation to a GARMIN fore runner 401 or any of those older and newer GARMINS that Rc car guys all over youtube are typically using for their speed runs on their cars .... how do the Sky RC GSM-010 and GSM-015 gps speed meters compare.....????? Specifically the gsm-015 ?????..... is it as good as a garmin and on par with one ?...... is the sky Rc gps really accurate in general ?.... I always watch this channel and I wanted to know for sure. I’ve spent 60-70 dollars on each one and I sold two because I crashed with them on my cars. Like an idiot I would use rubber bands to keep them tied to my cars and it didn’t work for too long. I love the sky Rc speed meters and they seem 100% accurate and on point but I really needed to get your extra perspective outside of this video once again. I have a tech channel here on CZcams and this is it. I do product unboxings and reviews and I actually reviewed and unboxed both models. I sold them since and now I’m on my third brand new one which I just ordered for 69 dollars off of amazon
      Brand new. I ordered the gsm-015 model since I didn’t notice the 010 as much anymore.

    Still cant see why someone cant come up with the GPS product that is a GPS box with its own trans all in one and is linked to a wireless display that you can attach to any radio.... How hard can that be... All the radios with GPS or RPM displays are not good enough or cost a lot for each module and ties you to a single brand and type of radio... Least this way you can easily use it in all your cars without issue no matter what system you own.
    People will say "why would you ever want to look down to see your speed while driving?!?!" Well, bob.... You dont... When you make your pass and stop at the end of its pass, you look down and see and then make another pass and do the same each time rather then driving the car all the way back and bending over and looking at the speed. Doesn't matter, if you want to look while you drive you can.

    • @robbryan3044
      @robbryan3044 Před 5 lety

      In regards to a GPS with built-in transmitter, I'm in complete agreement with you. Not only 'should' it be simple to include this...it IS simple to include. It could be Bluetooth, or even its own built-in WiFi. If you look at almost any dashcam currently available without a built-in display, they ALL have their own built-in "WiFi hotspot", which you connect to with your cell phone, through the manufacturer's app. This is what allows one to view live video, to download recorded videos, and (in most higher-end models) to change settings. There is absolutely no reason why this couldn't be added to the SkyRC GPS, or similar devices. Sure, it would add a few dollars to the price, but, considering the added functionality, I don't think anyone would mind said higher price.
      As for the "looking down at your speed" comment, I'm not saying I agree, but I'm also not disagreeing. When doing a speed-run (not that I do speed runs...I race on an indoor clay track), there are typically two people involved (based on all the speed-run videos I've watched) - one controlling the vehicle, and the other holding the speed gun. Using a app/phone-connected GPS would be no different - one would be controlling the vehicle, while the other holds the camera filming the run, as well as the phone/tablet running the connected app. Taking that one step further, one could even build a combination camera-phone dolly that could place the phone within the view of the camera (say, in the lower right, or left, corner), so that the person filming only had to hold one 'object', as said 'object' would have both devices.
      So, the real question isn't "if" any GPS tracker manufacturers are going to produce a GPS tracker with app-connected functionality, but "when". Yes, it could be several years, or just a few months. Again, considering the fairly minimal additional cost, I can't understand why none have released such a unit so far. Here's to hoping one comes sooner, rather than later.
