Cool!! Thanks for this. I'm so glad that MPC reissued this kit. This is a good kit to bash from or convert the AMT 1955 Chevy pickup into an off-roader. I'm sure all of those eBay sellers who were selling the older kits for $120-150 aren't too happy about this reissue.
Building this kit right now, definitely requires patience, the transfer case is a serious flaw, had to cut mine up to fit the transmission, not bad kit but could use retooling, still fun to build
Colt's truck was a Rounded-Line 1982 GMC K-2500 Wideside with the Sierra Grande equipment level package. I double checked my Fall Guy kit and the grille is different than the Hardcastle and later AMT issue trucks. The Fall Guy grille is the 81-82 style while the Hardcastle and later issues are 83-84. The bumper is correct in the Fall Guy kit but wrong in the AMT kit. The grille must've been a separate stand alone piece and you could say MPC made a booboo adding the later grille to the Fall Guy chrome sprue.
I have the 84 GMC released a few years ago with the blue pickup on the box. I was hoping that they would make a tool of the correct 81-87 interior with a bench seat option for the truck, instead of using the 73-80 interior. Maybe add an 83-87 bumper to go with the 84 grille and add the 81-82 grille to go with the bumper in the kit, so that you can either build it as an 81-82 or 83-87. Also that visor I believe, is actually a factory air dam that goes under the front bumper. Great to see this kit come back.
the thing I found annoying was the flashing on some parts and the lifted kit blocks were a pain in the ass and the leaf springs front and rear were hard to line up properly not much as far as the instructions go to build the second or custom motor but it's cool I'm building it as an m1028 military truck anyway
Looks like a winner. Like you said if we remember this kit was originally tooled in the eighties any shortcomings are acceptable. I would rather see it re-released with its warts than not at all. Thanks for another great review.
Thanks, enjoyable! I love the GMC logo over the bowtie as well. I can see the brushed nickel appearance of the tailgate in my head. On the second set of wheels, and the optional suspension blocks in the instructions, maybe the original model included two sets of tires. Easy way for Reissue to save money. As you said, they used the same molds. Thanks again!
+hpiguy's Workshop Hello Chris, what kit would you personally recommend for a model car kit enthusiast and beginner? Do you prefer to air-spray or use paint spray cans?
Awwww shucks, no desert scene decal. I fell for it too. And it looks so good on the box art, gosh, you'd have to try to print one out. And I do hope an aftermarket company prints some Fall Guy decals. Seems like the king of truck you'd have to buy more than 1 of to build multiple options. I have a different release of this kit. It has a blue one on the box art and it just says 1984 Chevy 4x4 or something like that. But I believe I may have gone in there and stolen parts from it. I will plan to get a couple of these new ones. Thanks for the review!
+Toppervision1 Thanks for watching. You're in luck, you can get Fall Guy decals on Ebay for under ten bucks. I have a set and they aren't bad. Not as perfect as new printed factory decals, but they will work.
Just got this kit and have also built the AMT hot trucks version that has the dark blue truck on the box art. I think its a decent kit that has its downfalls but if you take your time it turns out great. Now if my bare metal foil would have stuck but I think that was from the krylon paint I used
The drip molding around the top of the doors was an extra cost option and was a simple screw on piece of molded plastic so it wouldn't be incorrect if you sanded the front and rear body posts to match the door surface and if you want the drip molding use some.020 evergreen plastic angle strips and paint them with a molotow chrome pen after the body is painted.
Another great review Chris! You can blame the desert scene on the truck for a good wax job on the body of the car. ;-) Too bad the kit doesn't come with a Heather Thomas figure.
The first release of this truck is what people are building the Fall guy truck from and now i don't remember the manufacturer but there are two versions of the square body long bed resin rough casting with some detail the first release shows a blue truck.
"I might fall from a tall building I might roll a brand new car cause I'm the unknown stuntman that made Redford such a star" I'm gonna make the fall guy truck what a great tv show
I have the same kit the only problem was getting the dash board to set flush in the cab with the tub for assembly I had to trim my front window a bit, any suggestions or ideas? Thankyou.
Usually when I double check my fit I find something in the way that's keeping it from going in right. If not, just gently shave parts until it slides in like you did.
if your still interested hobbylinc.com has this kit,and right now it's 23% off.here's the link:www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?str_s=1984%20chevy%20truck%20deserter&p=2
I would really like to do a ponch and John's pick up and trans am but not sure if available. This pick up looks like John's and the hitchers . Any help grateful

Mine looked the same on cab the wheels where way to small for the tires over all mine was total junk some parts where way off fit wise and cab oh man when I test fit window cab was twerked out bad that was the experience that caused me to walk out of model car I sent manufacturer a email and photos and they never contacted me back I was very upset
I've got one of these trucks.. it's molded in light grey.. I bought it over ten years ago.. I've been doing model kits since I was twelve years old.. I'm forty-one and I still love building them 😀
That part you asked about is the cowl panel, sits between hood and windshield. Tell ya, I've built many of model kits and I have learned to stay away from MPC kits. They are the absolute worse kits ever.
Thanks for taking the time to do a great detailed review. Videos such as this are the only way to see what's in the box before buying.

Found this kit rereleased at Walmart for 24ish bucks and see it all over eBay for what you said there, lowest listing I seen for it was 50 bucks
Thanks for the review!
Great review and once more thanks for posting all your videos!
+JackFlemingFan Thanks for watching and the nice words :)

Nice Kit review, I just picked this kit up this week
+Scott Goble Thanks!
the part you ask about is the valance for the front
Great review ... I was expecting this kit to be a box full of flash but this one wasn't to bad.
+Smokinjoe 311 Thanks Joe :)
I have got this kit, very pleased with it, going to make it into "The Fall Guy" truck, probably before most of you were born, but was a superb show.
Great review I just got one. I got my from hobby lobby payed $19.70. with the 40% coupon. Have a good one.
Thank you, have fun!
Hello ... would it be possible to give me the inner & outter diameter in millimeters , of the tire please?
Thank you
hpiguys Workshop hey can you do episodes on how to make it because I am confused on one of the steps
Yea me too

+Dansmodelworx I'm with you, I'm glad to see it come back out. I think it will be a big seller.

Toppervision1 lol when did u think that
I just got this kit and I’m having a blast with it

Can't use other deacals from other models??

Good info!
Nice review thanks
+Scott Thurow Thanks for watching :)
Another great review Chris! You can blame the desert scene on the truck for a good wax job on the body of the car. ;-) Too bad the kit doesn't come with a Heather Thomas figure.
Michael Kovach that's exactly what I thought. I don't think it's meant to be a painted on desert scene. It's a reflection.
I'm just wishing it was a long bed so I could do it as the Fall Guy truck. But still may do it as is.
Great looking kit. Thanks for the video.
Definitely going to have to get one of these kits. I'd love to put Colt's truck (or a version of it) into the display case
Yup and decals are out there for Fall Guy still.
hpiguys Workshop
Just put them both on order. Great reviews
When u gonna build this truck
got one today but body frame was already black, I just prime it Gray
I have build this one as the Fall Guy Truck with original color and so on. It is a beatyfull Memory on my Childhood. My GMC was an AMT/Ertl Kid.
The first release of this truck is what people are building the Fall guy truck from and now i don't remember the manufacturer but there are two versions of the square body long bed resin rough casting with some detail the first release shows a blue truck.
"I might fall from a tall building I might roll a brand new car cause I'm the unknown stuntman that made Redford such a star" I'm gonna make the fall guy truck what a great tv show
It sure was! And an iconic 80s truck!

Actually the most common option in those trucks of chevy’s C-10 and GMC’s 1500 was the 305 V8! :)
One way to tell if a small block is a 400ci is freeze plugs. 400s had 3 per side, or a boss in the middle where a 3rd would be
Thank you
I've been looking everywhere for a kit of this truck. I own a 87 long bed I've been trying to build as a model
If I get this kit I'll use the revell 77 Chevy snow plow kit as a donor
Sorry gmc
if your still interested hobbylinc.com has this kit,and right now it's 23% off.here's the link:www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?str_s=1984%20chevy%20truck%20deserter&p=2
Wheelbase?
Just out of curiosity. Is this basically a reissue of the old MPC kit from the 80s TV show The Fall Guy?
Pretty much, yes.
Yes ... even the "hidden storage doors" in the cargo box's side panels are still there :)
Are you gonna do a build up of this kit?
Eventually, sort of addicted to the Bandai Star Wars line right now and some ship kits.
Wow my first model car!
Good choice!
I would really like to do a ponch and John's pick up and trans am but not sure if available. This pick up looks like John's and the hitchers . Any help grateful
See my review on the stepside Chevy by Revell, way way closer to John's truck.
How can you get the chrome out from the wheels ?
Soak the chrome parts in Simple Green or Easy Off Oven cleaner to remove the chrome plating.
***** New for me, thanks !!!!!!!!!
Ordered mine few days ago
Enjoy!
So could someone help I want to buy this and get into kit cars what are things I’ll need
content.revell.de/content/en/model-building-beginners-tips/index.html
That would look good in Omaha Orange. That was actually a color offered on the GMC pickups in 84. Also your "birth control" hump made me chuckle
Nice idea!
can you do another ship model review?
+Samu Games YT Hi there, sure, I always get back to ships and what not.
turn signals in the bumper were for the 1981 and 82 model years and turn signals in the grill were from the 11983 to 1987 model years and the box series ran from 1973 to 1987 first generation from 1973 to 1980 and second generation was from 1981 to 1987 during this time it was only Ford and Dodge that had the club cab.. however GM did a club cab in this style only in 1987 but its rare to find one.
i have this kit pretty nice kit
It's a fun kit, yup!
Got one of them to
its a 350 most likely or a 305 the kit not bad my only gripe is the diffs are not that good the plastics thin
True but revel makes a earlier model version
kit with better diffs
That was the spoiler that goes under the front bumper u was askin about
Hello ... would it be possible to give me the inner & outter diameter in millimeters , of the tire please?
Thank you
Kit bashing is in order with the 76 Chevy stepside
Someone said that this was the closest to the 1980 blazer so i got it
A other awesome truck
I like it
Thanks and enjoy your hobby!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
I had a oddball a 82 gmc c15 sierra Jimmy 305 4spd manual shift transmission not a ac or a 4x4 truck
Hahahhaha i have one in LIFE i bought this kit hobby lobby $15.05 molded in black with bottle of gloss black gunmetal flake
I have one of them
Or a 307
This was originally the "Fall Guy" truck model kit
Yup!
I've got one of these trucks.. it's molded in light grey.. I bought it over ten years ago.. I've been doing model kits since I was twelve years old.. I'm forty-one and I still love building them 😀
Can never have too many trucks.
Bucket seats are no fun, but the truck does have a bed.
But he didn’t build it
That part you asked about is the cowl panel, sits between hood and windshield. Tell ya, I've built many of model kits and I have learned to stay away from MPC kits. They are the absolute worse kits ever.
I do about 20 MPCs per year on this channel, very few have big problems but I'm not all that picky either.
Beware it runs $32.00
Most online places are less.
desert....er desert............er.
