Im pretty sure they have good games, but are kept in the dark because they choose to overshadow them with games like COD, gears of war, halo, and other games that are somewhat bland.

As a lifelong Xbox fan, I must say that it is absolutely amazing that Sony, a company less than a TENTH of the size of Microsoft, has been able to dominate the largest entertainment market in the world for so long. They really do understand what players want.

Brands like LG and Samsung dominate the TV market, Samsung and Apple dominate the smartphone market, its actually relatively up there with audio equipment like headphones with brands like Bose and Beats(even tho the quality of these are trash, the name sells)
Sony has always focused on not just the development of their consoles but also how consumers enjoy the game. The evolution of the DualShock is what gave birth to what we now have, the DualSense.

Many games on PS4 today, force you to have a allways online conecction or it will crash with errors, like crash team racing
Xbox hasn’t recovered from this to this day. The only downside I had with the PS4 was how clunky the OS was. It was laggy, and unresponsive. They addressed that with the PS5 it is much smoother now. My only gripe is pressing the ps button gets you to a control center instead of going to the home screen. This is confusing coming from a ps4 :/

Yes, I've seen some Horror Stories about people breaking their PS4, whilst attempting to replace the HDD with a new one or with an SSD.
As a fan of all systems, and mostly an Xbox player who started with PS2, its crazy to see what gaming has become. The only thing I will never understand is gamers animosity towards their non preferred consoles/systems. This documentary, and the PS3 vs 360 one are some of the best documentaries ive seen. I love almost everything Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and others have put out. They are all quality platforms. The leads went from ps2, then 360, then ps4, and im curious to see which one is gonna lead this new generation. Though I have no animosity toward either, this will definitely be interesting.
Edit: after seeing the comment section, I think its funny how some people think people only buy one console. Almost everybody I know own most xbox and playstation and nintendo consoles. The only Consoles I dont own are the og xbox and ps3. I have played them and owned them in the past. Most of the game players I know own at least one of each. I see the argument that “youve never experienced our games so you wouldnt know.” Most of us have, and like them, we just prefer one over the other, but still use the other. Especially the exclusives, I think god of war, uncharted, and many other PS games are amazing. I also think Gears of war, halo, and many others are amazing. It just comes down to preference. Both companys and their systems have had really high highs and super low lows. Like ps3 launch being horrible, and xbox one launch being just as bad. Eventually, both consoles became amazing and gave their competition a run for their money. I hope neither company’s, as well as Nintendo, dont ever become obsolete or go out of business. Though eventually, some and even maybe all will, especially with how PC is nowadays. Each company, and their respective fanbases, deserve the best.

I've been a mostly Xbox player, played on the 360 and Xbox one S and have many great memories on them. I recently got a PS4 to see what I was missing and I'm loving the exclusives, but Xbox will always have a special place in my heart for the memories I created on it when I was a kid.
I ignore XBOX from the start. I never liked their controllers.
Its crazy to think that in 2023 im still playing my PS4 Pro and enjoying it. I still have tons of games that i need to complete before thinking to buy a PS5
I had the 360 only bc ps3s weren't available compared to the 360. Then their banger gaming list, halo 3, and Xbox Live kept me more than contempt with that console. Plus no friends had a ps3.
So there was never really a reason to buy a ps3.
The 360 WAS the gamer's console.
Sony learned and adapted. The way a competent competitor in the market should. So 360 games (including me) gravitated to the better GAMING console (ps4).
So far I feel the ps5 has the advantage, but I'm hoping 2023-2025 be a repeat of 2007 for Microsoft. If they bang out Hella great exclusives, I may have to pick up an X. But so far in content with the ps5.

I have watched this documentary at least ten times, as well as your other documentaries. You're so damn good at this, man.
Still come back and watch this video from time to time. Truly one of the best generations of gaming. I loved my ps3 and that will always be special but the games, people, and atmosphere surrounding the playstation 4 are unmatched. Everytime I watched a ps4 console or game trailer, the music and gameplay would always hype me up. The playstation 4 era will always be something special. Sony really did make a comeback and it was legendary. ❤

Boy, was 2013 a hellfire year for the gaming industry. Two shiny-new black boxes with not many games to show for it at launch, but it sure-as-hell meant a lot for how that generation of console gaming was going to go.

Hello Their New management has a lot to prove too, for a start, no more game cancellations please, it was one of their biggest problem this gen.
It’s good that they are striving to improve their first party output, hopefully in a few years, we’ll see exciting and successful new IPs from Microsoft, something they really struggled with as well this gen, with new IPs failing to impress critics and gamers such as Sea of Thieves, Recore and Quantum Break.

Totally agree. I'm not even a heavy gamer. We play Golf Club, I'll occasionally play some pinball or Super Stardust, and we play VR games and that's about it. Even then, I'm still excited to see the PS5 and will likely be an early adopter. We still have two PS3s and two PS4s going strong here at our house. :)

I honestly wish this separation of consoles would end. Crossplay is the most feasible solution to the issue of not being able to play a game with your friend just because he/she happens to be playing the same game on a different platform. The only problem is it's not a common feature in games. GTA V is about to be released for a 3rd time and it still can't be crossplayed.

They must have thought Sony was going to do it too. That's the only way it could work. There were rumors about Sony doing it in 2011-2012.
They were in delusion head over toe due to their temporary win over Sony in the 7th Gen console war. They forgot that the gamers make or break the console business and decided to give their corporate hegemony too early a chance to rise it's ugly head. Thanks to gamers and Sony, it backfired and MS was shown it's rightful place.

They thought they would win loyalty from developers by helping them with their bottom line. Removing the used games market would drastically increase sales and spur exclusive software development. Its the exact same eco-system that has driven the PC games market for years now. It was a very calculated move that would have paid off if not for the fact that Sony completely undermined it. Plus the fact that we console gamers like our physical media.

I’m here in 2022 watching this fantastic documentary again for the 50th time haha (yes I think it’s that good that I have watched it 50 times) after FINALLY being able to get a PS5!! I LOVED my PS4’s and yes I had multiple PS4 consoles because at different times in the last 9 years I’ve had to sell them for cash due to being unemployed for long periods of time before finally receiving my 100% P&T (Permanent and Total) VA disability rating last year, so now I’m officially a “Fully Disabled Combat Veteran”. Plus I also purchased the different versions/revisions of the PS4 especially the PS4 Pro which I LOVED, except for one issue and that being the fact that whenever I would play a game like Red Dead Redemption II it always sounded like a jet engine was running!! I can’t wait for Ryan to do another one of these PHENOMENAL documentaries about the PS5!!!

When my brother got a ps4 in 2014 I didn’t really care that much I was still on my ps3 slim on Batman 2 I was only like 5. When my brother let me play his ps4 I wanted one so badly. 2 years later in 2016 I got the new ps4 slim also remember playing my first shooter bo3 and watch dogs 2 also a bit of gta 5. Then my brother got ps4 vr and when I played it I was blown away how incredible this tech was even though there was not that many games when I got in a fight on vr it scared me. Now in 2023 had the ps5 for 2 months since Christmas 2022 even though it’s great I miss all the memories with ps4 my first proper console ahhh good times probably go back to it in 4 years

The Ninth Generation could be the toughest for traditional consoles yet.
With Nintendo rebounding from the Wii U to the Switch, a massive uptake in PC gaming in the last decade, a massive chip shortage, and the PS4 selling incredibly well, I’d expect to watch out for these things listed below during the lifespan of the PS5/Series X:
1. Nintendo will not release a Switch Pro. Instead, it will likely be a full upgrade, the Switch 2.
2. Due to the Switch being underpowered, it’s fair to say that the successor will be on par with a PS4/Xbox One.

That will never happen. Xbox started the online subacriptions as a thing with Xbox Live. Nintendo started to do it and they were the last one to do so. Sony followed second.

If you save a bit for Black Friday, you can buy 2-3 years.of PS Plus(24-36 months) you can get 2 years for $80 and 3 years for $120. You save and get an extra year of PS Plus by doing this.

People should realize that Sony invented the 5" laser disc that became know as CD's and then evolved to DVD's. Sony also invented Blu-ray. I thought it was funny when people actually thought xbox 360's HD-DVD was going to compete with Blu-ray. The next gen xbox switched to Blu-ray. That kinda sums it up. When you have to use your rivals technology to compete you've already lost. Xbox sucks.

I think Microsoft can compete again, but it's hard because when you think of it, the people they lost to PS4 are probably in love with exclusives like GoW, Spiderman, Uncharted, Horizon. I don't think those people are willing to let go of these games, and talented developers.

Still remember getting my PS4 back in christmas 2019. It got me into some of my favorites series like sonic and crash bandicoot, it helped get into console gaming a lot more, and was overall a great system in my eyes with many fun games for me to enjoy. Still a legendary console and I wonder if my experience with the PS5 will compare to my exprience on the PS4. (I should be getting a PS5 within the next few months.)

The PS4 gaming library is very impressive. You could simply own every exclusive title the PS4 has, and have a very extensive game collection! I have an Xbox One friend, he tries his best to tell me that the Xbox One is better. I always just throw an exclusive in his face, "Hey, how you enjoying the new God of War game?", "Hey, excited for Part 2 of The Last of Us?", "Oh gosh! Just finished Detroit, now going to get started on the Uncharted series, sure looks amazing!"

This is very true. I agree full heartedly, when I got my ps4 pro, I was a bit skeptical on the value vs the standard but the support and games were phenomenal. I am disappointed in my Xbox One S as I liked some of the exclusives but downloading like 20GB just to get games playable from inserting the disc is ludicrous eg. HALO 5, Gears 4 and Wars 2

Dustrap Gaming They do this on purpose. PS2 to PS3, it was God of War/GoW2. PS3 to PS4, Last of Us. Now we’re heading into the next gen with God of War 2018, LoU2, Tsushima, etc. Sony always make their libraries rear-loaded so you buy in to the next gen
Why be sold before you see the product? Go with the best option each gen. I had an Xbox 360 last gen because Xbox had fire in them coming off of getting beat by the PS2, Sony had the fire this generation after losing out last gen. Xbox will very likely be the hungry console this gen. So I'll be waiting and seeing. But it'll be hard to overcome Sony's barrage of exclusives.
PS4 was the console that brought me back to console gaming. Incredible system. I've since upgraded to a PS5..but man I have so many gond memories of gaming on the PS4

@@cliffturbo2146 i consider them kinda pointless because they pretty much force developers to integrate the gimmick into their games.
A simple example of a game i liked was the world ends with you, the dual screen gimmick made it so its game mechanics had to be reworked for the smartphone port and the incoming switch port is a hybrid of the phone and ds version, again, due the lack of dual screen.
And then there's quite a few games that would need tweaking to be ported to other systems which in turn made the wii and wii u not so desirable and as easier to make games for compared with the more traditional gaming of sony and ms consoles. IMHO, gimmicks should be secondary, not something to aggressively push into developers.
As for sony exclusives, i see a bright future ahead for them. Betting on the reinvention of god of war, guerrilla games's pet project horizon despite they only did killzone games last decade, strong ties to sega's popular yakuza series because it was denied by the other two for its mature themes, and etc shows that sony is at hard work to make sure quality games are released.
Hell, when konami foolishly fired hideo Kojima of metal gear fame, sony was quick to offer a partnership and support to him to create kojima productions. Things like that shows how commited sony is to strenghten even more the playstation brand and unless they grow complacent like with early life ps3, there's no stopping this momentum

Heck, I'd never heard of Gamecube and the original Xbox because the PS2 can play DVD and that took a lot of attention, not only gamers. But still, the Wii did win the seventh generation because of the first use of motion control, which also was a success, rivaling the PS2.

Been a PS fan since 95. I’ve owned all of their game systems and handhelds. Sure the 3 was somehow lesser but I enjoyed it and stood by. I’m not someone that’s gonna jump around from brand to brand. Loving the 5. Only regret I have is selling my OG 60gb PS3. Otherwise I’d have every first and final version of all their systems and now that OG is stupid expensive for the condition I want.
