I'm really proud of this video. This was a story I've wanted to tell for years. A huge thank you goes to Robert who did the research, scripting, and brought this to life. What company or product do you want to see next?
Jon We Want More Of These Console Comparison, I'm A Subscriber Of Yours From The Console Wars Time... Looking Forward For This Style Videos Since Then, I Don't Know What Happened In Between.
GoodLuck!
John you've out done yourself .......... Bravo !!!
Amazing! You should really be proud of the work you put in here. A really well put together gaming documentary.
naturally, next should be XBOX
Make one for steve jobs
PS1: The Beginning of Greatness
PS2: Greatness Epitomized
PS3: The Fall & Rise Towards Greatness
PS4: Greatness Awaits
PS5: Greatness Arrives
PHXNTXM PS6: Beyond Greatness 😉
Ps6: Greatness evolves
PS7: greatness forever
PS8 Greatness Dominates
Ps9: Breathtaking Greatness
This is probably the best video I've seen all month.
yes, can't wait for tomorrow's first impressions
ps1 was part of my childhood... ps2 and ps3 and ps4... are very important for my life... but with ps5.. i had issue with them... i guess i will wait for pro version first since the issue is clearly will not go away...
Documentaries on "Mystic" channel is worth watching too
@@siddhanthdas8622 I second that. His documentaries are amazing, best on CZcams for sure.
You obviously haven't seen Mystic
Disappointing that you didn’t talk about Mark Cerny. He deserves all the praise for the PS4 rise to greatness once again.
Without him, Playstation wouldn't be what it is right now......
Both the PS4 and XBOX One were terribly weak at launch. That was the only glaring issue with this video. They were multiple graphics card generations behind PCs even at launch.
I think that Mark Cerny has hit his homerun with the PS5 though. That custom I/O for the SSD is unparalleled even in the PC space and that first Miles Morales load time leak is mindblowing. This time the consoles are on par with current/last gen graphics cards at least and only overshadowed by the brand new RTX 3000 series and Radeon 6000 series with which they actually share the same architecture.
@@Shvabicu I've been playing cold war for a bit. Crazy to think the only thing holding us back from even faster loading times is wifi now. Crazy
Without toilet paper my CZcams video wouldn’t exist
He also created ps5
It’s really unfortunate that long videos like this relatively underperform, because this type of content is fantastic and is exactly what I love! Great video Jon
People nowdawys have short attention spans.
@@androidunderground40 yea stupid people people bad😡😡
If Sony started its PlayStation journey with a audio chip for Nintendo then now I can truly trust the Tempest 3D audio engine for the PS5. Sony know their stuff.
They also have arguably the best noise-cancelling headphones on the market with the WH1000 Series. They’re actually very good in a lot of areas.
@@narukami6364 I'm saving up for those because they're the best of the best.
@@atharvagokhale27 I have the WH-1000XM3 and can assure you that it’s pretty great, and of course works for gaming without any hitches at all.
Man, Sony IS audio, they're the ONLY company who can, on a software basis compete with Dolby, they're that good.
@@atharvagokhale27 i have the WH1000M3 and can assure you its amazing like A T said and from what i heard the price for it recently droped when they announced the M4
Ps2 was the most fun I’ve ever had with a console, hands down.
PS4 for me. I had all PS 1,2,3,4. PS4 was the best for me and VR was such an amazing addition to boost. I think PS5 will top even that. Can’t wait.
PS4 for me.
Bcz you were a kid kids now days will say the most fun they have was when they play with ps4
@@MARMAR-xw6gj that’s pretty much a given. Most people are partial to their own generation lol
@@MARMAR-xw6gj or we have different preferences. I’m 39. First gaming system ever owned was NES. SNES was by far the most fun I ever had of any gaming system, in any era. PS1 and PS2 were great. Gaming became boring for me until the PS4. God of War, Uncharted, Last of Us 2, all have been great. PS VR.
2:18 Lmao the building looks like a ps5
I was going to say that 😂
Lmao
I was expecting a boring video as I'm not that interested in consoles wars. but this is the kind of documentary on Netflix I would enjoy watching a longer version.
story is interesting still it was one of the more intersting birth of the biggest brand in gaming world..
Yeah same I wanted to see how to struggle was back then for Sony to get successful
Right? Even though I already knew every single detail of the story it was still enjoyable to hear.
Dude Netflix is trash don't disrespect my man like that
Longer version might come out in 5+ years sadly 😔
I always thought the fat ps3 was one of the most beautiful consoles ever.
It was, the piano black was beautiful. But xbox 360 was also beautiful in its own way.
MisterMolby
Xbox 360 = Simple Modernistic Beauty
PS3 = Uniquely Futuristic Beauty
@@MisterMolby indeed.
that why i buy one when they made cheaper version...
I have my original PS3 still for this reason. It still looks modern now
The companies that survive and thrive are the ones that adapt and change. That is the theme I get from everyone of these history videos Jon does
Interesting
This is so good. As someone who’s been with Sony from the PS1-PS4 (My PS1 and older PS consoles still work!) and is about to purchase a PS5 in a month, this documentary was so amazing to watch. Really shows have far Sony has come and also how far we as gamers have come too. I look forward to telling my grandkids in the future about what it was like witnessing the console wars in the 90s and being there for the most historic moments in gaming.
I still hate myself for selling my ps2 for 30 bucks as a kid
nice pfp
@@daniel_960_ I still have mine
DAE remember the thicc and curvy PS3 from 06? That was so next level at that time, especially with blu ray .
Ahah
PS3 original's beauty was on a different level. But people forget how simplistically sexy the PS3 slim looked and the super slim too.
1903, damn🍸cheers I'll drink to that bro, I'm 117
I remember watching this dude do the ps3 vs Xbox almost 13 years ago!
yeah... nothing gone far...
ME TOO! Man, it was such a thrill making the choice between the PS3 and 360 back in the day as a kid based off of those old TechnoBuffalo videos versus videos!
Good times.
P.S. I chose the PS3, but it was close.
This video reminded me of why I started watching videos on CZcams to begin with.
This is perfect!!! I got the popcorn ready! 🍿
One of your best videos, Jon. Well done!
I always reference the ps2 startup as my childhood intro 😂
Love it. The book Console Wars, touches on Sony and their arrival to the gaming market. Good read BTW if anyone is interested in the Sega Genesis VS Super Nintendo Gen.
sony mangement did not like the R&D since sony div. was set to made product anyhow.. so no one can fire him on first place.. just they still don't want to do be in market since back then other sector made more money... still the same today...
I still don't get why fight about consoles like some people may say you have bad taste if you don't like this console I miss when console Wars weren't really a thing
Sega was where I started my gaming journey
@@Henry-kp6qs I do like the competition between the big companies. The landscape of gaming has change so much, especially with the advances in PC gaming.
Amazing documentary. Glad PS2 was the console of my childhood - lots of great memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I still have that fully working back home since 2005 and the day will come I'll put that boii to work again.
The wii bought my 600$ ps3 lol. I got a launch wii, didn’t like it, took it back to gamestop and two parents wanted to buy the only wii in the store from me. They starting out bidding each other right there lol.
Lol that is so lucky
"Wii line beg and to fade"
Wii U: Am I a joke to you
You completely forgot it existed. It was released in 2012 as Nintendo's 6th major console,it sold relatively poorly but it is a great console beloved by many, myself included.
True but everyone knows Nintendo switch eclipses the Wii U sales within a year. And Switch's concept of off TV play was from the Wii U.
The introductiom was a Nostalgic Hit great job
I just found your channel looking for any PS5 documentaries or talks. Man talk about high quality!! Awesome work! Gladly subbed!! Can't wait to get my PS5, been a fan ever since my PS1 "Dual Shock" version back in 1997!! This gen is gunna be great!!
Man oh man oh man this video was dope!! Can tell the hard work that it took. Thank you for this video. Really cool hearing the story from the success to the failures and everything in between. Gotta love great story telling! Amazing video Jon
Watching this from a PS5, amazing console I love the total redesign they’ve done it looks so futuristic!
Thank you for the video. I found it incredibly well written and very informative. The fact that you pact so much digestable info into a video less than 30 minutes long is an astounding achievement. I dont know if you have a background or formal training in making video content but what i do know is, that you are very good at it. Congrats!!
Amazing video and trip down memory lane! Been there since day 1 when I was lucky enough to receive a PS1 on my birthday in Sept 1999. It launched with ridge racer, and battle Arena Toshiden. Thank you for the excellent video!!!
Omg what a great video. I already knew all this but you presented everything in a way I wanted to see. Keep it up!
Such a great video Jon! Having both nostalgia from the oast and excitement for what's to come!
Amazing video. I totally loved it, i almost cried at the finale. Great work Jon!
Jon Absolutely Amazing Video loved walking down Memory lane made me very emotional,Great Work and such a Good Video. Thanks so much very much enjoyed and had to save as well.So i can come back and watch again.Deb👌💯✌
Great video dude. Thoroughly enjoyed this lesson on the PlayStations history. Top marks!
This is not at all an easy video to make.. very hard work involved.. great work Jon.. cheers
I love the creativity in your script, alongside a fascinating unheard story that many might find interesting. Just the idea for the video alone was genius. Thanks for the video. We want more like this
Jon. I remember my first video I ever saw from you was ps3 vs Xbox 360 console wars and here I am watching this. Time flies.
Brings me back to the console wars days on technobuffalo. Loved the video, John
Love these kinds of documentaries
This is the right video to increase the hype for the Next Gen.
I remember event in this video, and this was a true delight to visit this moments again 😀.
I really think that this time around both companies are in a good position where both had hard moments
and glory moments.
I do believe that both of this companies have now a very good proposition and non (at least from my point of view) have a clear advantage over the other, as they are both managed to create a strong eco system, lots of great gaming studios for future great game and consoles that are shaping to be great both in value and capabilities .
Thanks for the video,
You have got me very excited 😊
Amazing work on this video man, gonna tune in to future uploads
Hi john, nice to see you back. Just what I needed to goto sleep. Your voice is soothing
Really nice video. Gaming has come very far and still has a long way to go. Please keep making such informative and really good videos. Thanks👍🏻
It was nice going back it may be learning some stuff that you didn't know it was going on back in the times during these console Wars pretty informative video
This mans CZcams videos feel like a movie. Some solid cinematic quality 👍🏼
Well done Jon. No one in the world could have made a better video. Excellent!! (mortal kombat voice)
Great vid! Love the odyssey playstation thingy in the thumbnail.
Love videos like this. Great work
Really nice and nostalgic video JON I love it
What a great video! Really really great. Keep it up Jon.
Nice video! Thanks for the time and effort!
Dude, your production quality is amazing!
This is an amazing video really appreciate how much detail you was able to cram in a short space of time. Absolutely brilliant. Very interesting for all console fans. (Big PlayStation fan btw haha)
Amazing video and information brother, Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻😀😀
Great video sharing this on twitter for all of my gaming peeps
Lol, your “gaming peeps”? What a tool
Nice video, I enjoyed it more than I initially thought I would've.
I love this video nice work on putting it together👍🏿
Excellent video man, thank you so much
Brilliant video Jon. I am a Bolly-Wood Film editor, and I must say, the editing of the video along with the use of archival footage was very well done. Great job man, keep making such wonderful and insightful videos. Cheers 👍🏼
I appreciate. That’s high praise coming from someone in the industry. Thank you!
Love this video thank you so much jon
This was such a delight! 😊 Thank you! I’m quite excited for this new generation and what innovations that will come from it.
Well done John amazing storytelling and the technological history class I am impressed!
I don’t usually comment on videos but your video showed something that I think everyone missed or at least I have not seen any mention. At 2:18 point in your video you reference the old Sony R&D building. That building to me looks like the inspiration for the PS5 design.
what... a 28minutes of video... and not a single second wasted... clearly the best video i watched for 20minutes plus video... thanks it is really great...
Exceptional video. Kudos!
12:43 is that the freaking TheRelaxingEND??
That's guys channel is one of the most unique I've ever seen in all of youtube
His concept is truly original of his own
I'm glad he is much popular among people who are popular
Amazing video, you just got yourself a new subscriber
Really appreciate the video. So good.
The late 90s Early 2000s was such an interesting time, us kids saw the beginning of so many things we take for granted now....like early smartphones, the first consoles with onboard storage,hd tvs to LED and OLED...
Couple of points here. It's crazy that the PS3 was such a controversy console, yet everyone wants to play PS3 games and want BC especially for that console. I remember perfectly buying the PS1 & 2. I also remember using the PS2 more as a dvd player and PS1 console than anything else. Even crazier: I never bought a single PS2 game for my PS2 🤷🏻♂️ My interest was a bit gone and it took me two years to buy the PS3 after it was launched. And not even because of all the controversy or anything, because i wasn't following the industry that much at that time. So i bought the PS3 around 2008. And, i loved it. It came with two games: uncharted, and Ratchet And Clank: Tools Of Destruction. I fell in love and started back to gaming and never looked back. i never owned an XBOX nor was i really interested in one. The games didn't appeal to me. And the boxes looked like toys for little children. Hey, i know it's stupid but i really like design and i loved the PS3 design. The fat one, that is. It's also crazy to think that, while the PS3 was more expensive and all of the troubles that came with it, the PS3 still managed to sell more in the end than the XBOX 360. Yeah, i do have my preferred console, and i do acknowledge that. However, being a fanboy, that's a bit behind me though i still have some moments where i'm like, yeah, but... Playstation this, and Playstation that. Though it's more in to response of XBOX gamers who say the Playstation is complete trash while i don't understand that argument. I mean, yes, the XBOX has a better online service and the Backwards compatibility is really nice. But when it comes to exclusive gaming, in my personal opinion, the Playstation does much better. Same can be said for Nintendo btw. I love both consoles so naturally, i have a Playstation and Nintendo, always side by side, with every new generation.
I'm now more of the thought that, we are all gamers, be it on different platforms, but we're all gamers. And we all have the same passion. And that's all that should matter!
Anyway, i always try to have a mature and decent conversation but it's not always easy. Everyone has their preferences and that's fine! :-) The only thing i'm really against is cloud gaming. Or, cloud gaming only, you know, without the option of having physical media. And i know this is something we are getting in the future. Still, i hope Sony will go as long as they can with physical media, even if they need to have two options like they have with the PS5.
cool story bro.
@@silvinodiaz6736 Aah, thanks bro 🥰
This guy does incredible job with videos, the writing, the audio.. settled. Puts alot of research into his work
Watching this is a flashback to my past :) a child of the 80s and teenager of the 90s and a worker of the 2000s
How is this the first time I'm hearing this story?? Amazing video subbing for certain
Thank you for this Jon
amazing vid, Very well done!
This was a really great way to package all the pre-text in this upcoming generation. You should be proud of this content
Excellent yet again Jon. Man...the PS2 was and still IS the most amazing console EVER....well along with the SNES! I still own all of them. I did preorder the PS5 ...now just waiting for Nov 12!!
Awesome content, thank you!

Great content Jon!
Excellent presentation!

What a great great documentary.
Thank you for this video !!
Great editing
This reminded me Lasse Pulkinen is an actual person that exists and worked for Techno Buffalo
PS2 is my favourite console, so many games and I had such good times back when I was younger.
Great and entertaining video
Thanks for this upload...did not know, i needed to watch something like this.
