He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobyz is a very old Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And
Please react to another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for him at Dimash's request, Ave Maria. He performed this song on the same show as Stranger. If you know any of the many versions of this song, this is not one of them. But definitely a must if you want to hear an angel sing.

The Kazakh instrument is a "KOBYZ", it is the old viol of the shamans. It is one of the oldest instruments of the Turco-Mongolian civilization. It is carved from a single block in walnut or birch and its 2 strings are made of horsehair. On the other hand, each people has its customs and in Russia, people do not get up to applaud. It is therefore not a lack of respect for Dimash because he is very well known and appreciated in Russia

Watch the whole video because it took place right after quarantine and it was his first big performance in public again. Dears missed him so much they halted the show due to so many wanting to deliver flowers to him on stage. He had to ask them to give him time to wish his mother a happy birthday and made everyone walk with him to give her the flowers instead. 🤣❤😂 And he was just there performing as a guest!

Dimash has the most INCREDIBLE voice i have ever heard. He trained in MANY different styles, his mother is a opera singer, his father is a singer and producer. Some people think Dimash is from a musical theatre background when in actuality nothing could be further from the truth. His vocal range, and his voice, is simply ASTONISHING. Have you heard his HIGHEST note? He sings a ACTUAL whistle note!!😲
This was preformed in Russia they don’t believe in standing, they find it rude to block others, so they give flowers which he donates to nursing homes, hospitals, etc. also he sings plenty of songs where he does not go high and low and they are just as amazing. You never know what to expect from Dimash.
Here's the thing. Everyone else that sings, sings. Dimash is not a singer, he's a musical instrument. He has perfected everything that has to do with music.
Been listening to him since 2017 and never tire of all he does. There are plenty of songs with no acrobatics that are stunningly beautiful. Qaragym Ai for one. When you factor in how down to earth and humble he is you just not only love his music but you will seriously appreciate the man that he is.

Dimash does some quite gentle songs with no acrobatics and they are among my favourite. Amanat, Quaragym-ai. I couldn’t Leave, Zhalyn, Fly Away, Okay…….

I’m not a technical person but I hear all the time that it’s more impressive when he does low register than super high register because it’s harder to sing that low. We all know he can sing the highest notes a man can sing but the low notes is just as impressive.

According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝

What amazes me constantly is the quality he puts into his music, even songs that on the surface sound simple have unusual instruments or sounds that he's played with. At first listen you think oh anybody could sing that, it's not that special but you go back and listen again and notice more details until you're finally stunned by how he's constantly coming up with something different.
I remember a long time ago a reactor listening to Fly Away and getting really excited. I couldn't understand as most reactors thought the song was good but fairly ordinary for Dimash. Apparently this guy had a background in EDM music and he explained that what Dimash had done was basically ripped apart EDM and rebuilt it from the ground up.

Dimash has trained for at least 3 hours a day since he was 5 years old. He is not only amazingly talented and trained, but he is perhaps the nicest, most loving, honorable and decent person in the world. It is this, as well as his vocal ability, that makes him so beloved of his fans (who he calls his "Dears.") He also is humble in so many ways. But music is his life, and has been since he was a toddler. If he seems too good to be true, well, he pretty much IS too good to be true--and yet, there he is, lifting people's spirits and even apparently causing people to come out of depression that had seemed never-ending. I am one of them. I cannot say it was Dimash who cured me of more than 50 years of depression, but since I first heard him sing, it is gone, and has not returned. I am now 81 and am free of depression that had plagued me for most of my adult life.

So glad you are continuing to check out Dimash. Not all of his songs go through his range. He has some anyone could probably sing. Just that he does it exceptionally. He also uses the highs and lows to express what he wants the listener to feel. So, it doesn’t get old as each song is different. If you want to listen to something more traditional in that he doesn’t move around his range so much. Try Couldn’t Leave an OST for a Chinese show or one of his newer songs Okay or Zhalyn.

The most incredible thing about Dimash is that he puts quality and storytelling first. His songs almost always have a very deep meaning. If you want a heartwrenching story, watch his cover of Daybreak. I'd suggest watching the video from Gloria Wu (where the meaning behind the song is explained). BUT.. but.. don't forget to also watch the 'Daybreak' performance from his Bastau 2017 concert!!! That one is my absolute favorite, especially once you know the story behind the song.

New Wave is an annual music festival-event like Eurovision in the resort town of Sochi, Russia every Summer. Dimash is invited as an honorary judge usually, and he and Igor perform on opening and closing days of the event.
This stage is at Sochi, Russia where the New Wave comp is annual. Igor Krutoy has been involved there for years.
Dimash sang Sinful Passion there as a guest, and Igor was there to see him, and subsequently came out of semi-retirement to write, compose and perform with him.
The other stages they frequent are at the Kremlin Palace, The Love of Tired Swans, and the one with the ice at Astana, Igor Krutoy’s 65th Anniversary Celebration, on Igor’s channel, and not to be missed.
Dimash is so photogenic, and so great at acting, that he is as good as the best movies.

I can certify that it's not going to happen about getting tired about Dimash and his biggest he creates in his songs. In a way of course, the songs are similar, but really Dimash makes them different each time including covers. Do we normally look for our favorite artist to give us new stuff we love or similar stuff we love but used to?

The flowers Dimash receives are taken to old folks homes or hospitals by Dimash after every performance and he personally hands them out to the patients. "New Wave" is five days music festival and competition for young artists held in Sochi, Russia annually by Maestro Igor Krutoy. Dimash is invited as guest artist since 2018, however he was also in jury panel in the competition in 2021. Sadly for last two years this festival is not held due to the war going on. The audience are really appreciative, culturally they don't show that like others western countries but they show it with bouquets of flowers and gifts

Those instruments are ancient oriental strings and the yodeling in the middle is a singing technique popular in the Middle East and Persian music. That note was not Dimash D8. Listen to Dimash at Gakku concert. D8 shows up. It is considered a whistle register. Dolphins make that note! Other worldly.

I know you already reacted to the D8 performance at Gakku but he has several songs where he does G7 like the Duet he did with Li Yugang -Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance at The Shanghi Spring festival. Don't worry. 🦄So since Dimash has such a range & love of sound, he does go to extremes often. But it’s also that you’ve been recommended some of his “bigger” songs as far as that goes. You won’t get tired of it bc that’s never his main goal. I just subscribed & saw your 1st reaction to Dimash. Yes he has presence, depth & soul- & the sounds he makes are beautiful, so what’s to get tired of? You can watch another dozen performances you’re still going to be discovering new depth to this artist. To give you an idea of the versatility in store- this performance Stranger was premiered during the New Wave competition he was a juror on. Even though dears have followed him for years, it was a new layer, none of his songs had been quite like it. He premiered 2 other songs on subsequent nights- all 3 different from each other & anything else he’d done to that point. You should see them too. Fly Away will show you he doesn’t need to do wild extremes- completely different style don’t know if you’ll like it but I love it. And on the last night of New Wave 2021 he premiered Ave Maria- a new composition… pretty sure you’ve never seen anything like it, & other than that *all I will say is you will not be prepared…*
