    I love the thought that went into this system. Simple, practical and you could still use the cargo space to get groceries midweek. Most drawer systems I see on CZcams take up the entire cargo bay, and there’s nothing wrong with that approach... but that sleeping platform is a great idea!

    You have some GREAT features in your drawer system... most do not translate well for pickup drawer systems, but then those of us who did not choose a sawed off 5' bed have plenty of space back there for a sleeping platform without the fancy extensions. Love the series... if I ever switch from my Tacoma to a 4 Runner or a Jeep, or if I am ever helping a friend design a bed system for a sport ute, I shall have to reference back to some of the amazing features you guys worked into your drawer system.

    My dad built a 1" square steel, U-shape configuration with 3/4" plywood on top of the storage for travel for me and my brother, maybe 1' below the boot in his '72 Chevy truck. Complete insanity now but nobody batted any eye in the 70's. I like your build. I've thought about a decked system for awhile now, but when you start thinking of a house battery setup you may have to cut out some plastic if, it doesn't fit under the hood. Analysis paralysis.

Your ‘trucks’ are our ‘utes’ and mine is a Hilux dual cab with an aluminium canopy (with legs) - not sure if we can get bamboo here in Australia due to customs regulations - I will use aluminium and stainless steel materials with lockable drawer slides with lock levers at the front - John in SA

Got mine for $12 off ebay (voltmeter, twin USB3, cig socket, switch + inline fuse) and came all wired up and it has worked perfectly for the past 2 years of heavy use. Oh AND it's 'marine' rated as has taken plenty of water spills, dust, knocks, etc 👍

    This is such a neat design and execution! I'm looking for an answer for my own build: welded or plywood construction.. There are so many plywood made systems with just hidden screws joints. Your chioce was to go with steel frame, but was it based on any experience with those plywood systems after some time of a proper, offroad use? I'm wondering if those plywood ones can handle a long term offroad use.

    • @mikolajdrozd9255
      @mikolajdrozd9255 Před 3 lety

      Hi Triot, I'm affiliated with a company in Poland that designs and produces motorboats out of HDPE. Although it is generally a great material for various applications, and has inherent benefits (waterproof, impact resistant, chemically resistant, etc), unfortunately it is quite heavy as compared to the materials used here. So much so that using it in offroad/overland applications where weight is absolutely critical is simply unjustifiable. We actually did a few feasibility studies through our project office (world class engineers) for overland applications of the material, and unfortunately it turns out that the intrinsically best feature of the material - it's density - makes it too heavy. We would love to be proved wrong though! Let me know if you manage to use this material for an overland build. Best wishes.

    • @triot2127
      @triot2127 Před 3 lety

      @@mikolajdrozd9255 Really? I work in the industry so its why I knew of marine grade HDPE. I have some King Starboard scraps in my workshop from a past side project. I have some 1/4 and 1/2 inch sheets of Starboard and It doesn't seem any heavier than the plywood I have on hand. The biggest draw back I see with Starboard is cost. You're also limited in color choices. I'll do some more research for now but I have connections to wholesale suppliers so Its why I thought Id use the stuff.

    Are you able to use the electrical outlets when the tailgate is closed? If not, would you orient them vertically to be able to use them when the gate is closed if you could do it over?

    • @trevorchapin2287
      @trevorchapin2287 Před 3 lety +1

      That's a big consideration for me as I design my own drawer build. Thinking of how to protect them when I'm loading heavy stuff in and out is the difficulty and whether or not I would ever use them with the back closed anyway

      @@trevorchapin2287 I use my drawers as a sleeping platform, and as I am planning power in the back, I was thinking that it would be nice to be able to plug a fan in or charge my phone at night while the gate is closed.

      @@matttherat343 My thoughts exactly. I'm thinking of adding just a dual USB connection accessible when the rear is closed. I'm debating on using a USB fan or hardwiring/semi-permanently mounting one in the rear. Either way would still be usable when all closed up inside. The more I research and look into though, the larger and more complicated my wiring diagram has gotten

      Exactly, you won't be able to do anything while the tailgate is closed, waste of functionality. should put it where it's accessible at all times.
