My question is what is causing the shifter to lock in the first place...I have a 2017 Tucson and it is infrequently locking itself in Park once a week ...what causes this ?
The problem could be caused by a number of issues. Malfunctioning brake pedal position switch, shift interlock switch, gearshift position sensor. Can't say for sure without having looked at the car in person. Best to get your vehicle checked out by a mechanic.
So how do I get it fixed where I don't have to use my house key to move the shift and I can just move it on its own?
There could be multiple reasons what is causing the underlying issue. It would be best to get it checked by a mechanic. Common reasons are: Bad shift position sensor and/or bad brake position sensor.
Thank you
Thank you. Glad you found it useful!
If i do that on my transmission on a 2007 hydandi sonada . To release the ock shift would the car start messing up the censors.
It should not. Good luck!
Tyyyyy🙌🏽
You are welcome!
What if your car will start but wont go into gear? I tried this with the engine on and it made a noticeable clunk noise.
Well, try this out. Shift the shifter into Neutral and then try turning on the engine. Again be sure that the parking brake is engaged and your foot is on the brake the whole time.
Once the engine is started, try putting it in drive and see what happens. If it still makes a noise and doesn't move then the issue is with the transmission
@@VirarAutomotive Thanks for replying! I had the parking brake engaged and my foot on the brake pedal. It goes into gear and drives, but that clunk has me worried. I guess it's like popping a clutch on a manual transmission.
Sir Im a new driver . Can I know about shifter button. When I press the shift liver P to newtrel there need to push shifter button.but when I move the gear liver drive to newtrel there I can to move with out pressing shifter button.
Actually what is shifter button.!
It is a double safety mechanism, to make sure you don't accidentally shift the car out of park. One is that brake pedal has to pressed, second is that the shifter button has to be pressed. They are both there to ensure that the driving is consciously making the decision to shift the vehicle out of park and not accidently. Once the car is in drive the assumption is that driver is consciously driving the car so shifter won't be shifted from drive to neutral accidently. Hope this makes sense
@@VirarAutomotivesir , you mean , when i change the gear drive to newtrel there no need to press the shifter button .but when i change the gear newtrel to reverce, there still need to press the shifter button . right ?
Yes. Because neutral to reverse is change of direction. That's important, so by you having to press the shifter button you consciously have to press the button and then shift to reverse. It's there to prevent you from shifting to reverse accidently
@@VirarAutomotive this method also same when I use shift lock button ( when engine is off / on ) right .
@@VirarAutomotive sir can you reply sir please ,,,
Sir I pressed this button (shift lock) and moved gear liver while my vehicle engine was on so is there any problem.? I'm worried about this
Savad it's no problem.
Think about it. When you normally drive the car and you have to shift from park to reverse to neutral or drive, you do so while the engine is on. There is no issue with the engine or the transmission then. Infact that's how it normally works.
In this case when you press the shift lock release button to move the shift lever, you basically did the same. The shift lock release button just controls a small mechanical pin, nothing more than that.
You should be fine. Just be sure that your foot is on the brake pedal when you shift out of Park.to prevent the car from rolling. Again, same process as you normally do.
@@VirarAutomotive thank you so much sir. You cleared my all doubts
Must you always press the shift lock pin every time to get out of park position? I mean is there a permanent solution to this problem? Because mine gets stuck everytime in park position. Even moving the gear from neutral to Reverse, I must press the shift lock
@@gboyemusic5251 thanks bro 🖤
@@gboyemusic5251 You just need to press the shift lock to get out of Park, not to go from Neutral to Reverse.
The shift lock release is a temporary fix to get you out of park and on your way to wherever you are going. The problem could be caused by a number of issues. You should get the car checked out by the mechanic to find the issue and get it fixed. :)
Thanks man you i actually confused and iam going work that time I saw this video I fixed almost 100% thanks aganin❤
Glad I could help!
is the engine on when doing this?
No. The engine doesn't have to be, but I suggest you ensure that the parking brake is engaged and you are pressing on the brake pedal too when you do it, to ensure that the car doesn't accidently roll once you get the shifter out of Park
how we can fix the problem ?
The problem could be causing by a number of potential reasons. The shifter is locked in place by 2 things. When you want to shift the car out of park, 1) the sensor in your brake pedal and 2) shifter interlock switch.
1) brake position interlock switch
2) shifter position sensor.
Two most common culprits.
I do not have a shiftlock release! Oh i have where it should be but i dont have one!
Sorry, not sure how I can help with that :(
What causes this and how do we fix it
Glad I could help!
what to do when hyundai elantra 2010 stuck in neutral wont move
I am sorry, I have never worked with a 2010 Elantra before so I couldn't tell you for sure.
No description as to why it malfunctioned.
Multiple reasons as to what might cause it. Could be a fault shifter position sensor. Could be soemthing else. This video is more of a quick video to get you out a jam and get going on your way. A mechanic would need to take a look at it to ascertain what the root cause is.
does not explain why it won't shift though
It could be any number of reasons, bad shifter position sensor, brake position sensor, interlock switch. Only after having looked at the car could one properly diagnose it. Or it could be just your battery is dead and you need to. Or you are out of gas and need to shift the car in neutral to get it towed or push to a parking spot. This video is intended to just get the car out of park.
@@VirarAutomotive Yes I know, I am a mechanic.
