    Really well explained. Thank you! Sounds like PT has more pain than post-op

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  Před 4 lety

      That was my experience! Post op had some minor pain but with 3 ibuprofens around the clock it was manageable. Sometimes it would throb and that would be the worst part but it’d go away quickly

    I’m having one of those days I’m really regretting this surgery. The after surgery was very minimal pain but these ROM exercises are torture. It feels as my kneecap is being pulled to the medial side and I’m just not making any progress bending. Did you have an easy time bending after surgery? I am 6 days out

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  Před 5 lety +6

      6 days out of surgery I was still in my immobilizer! However I was instructed to start making attempts at bending it and it was excruciating, I could barely bend it 20 degrees at first but when I reached the max point for the day I let it sit there for a couple seconds so the muscles could stretch out and get used to it again. So basically I’d bend it as far as it would go within a normal pain tolerance then I would let it stretch for about 5 seconds then straightened it again. I did this about 3 times a day, some days consecutively other days very spread out but it really helped get my mobility back, just make sure you don’t push yourself to the point of no return! You definitely want to feel a stretch but nothing excruciatingly painful

      @egoddess76 Před 5 lety

      Thank you! That makes me feel a ton better. All my post op instructions say I can go up to 90 degrees and I’m about to 70. My husband thought I was pushing it too far so I’ll take it easy and just be consistent

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  Před 5 lety +2

      Exactly! Your final goal is 90 but how you get there is all up to you and how YOUR body feels so make progress no matter how big or small! Good luck with your recovery and if you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them

    • @brigittehuller6147
      @brigittehuller6147 Před 2 lety +3

      you are not suppose to bend it 90 degrees only 6 days after surgery, the first 2 weeks it is like 30% after 2 weeks go 60 degrees and week 4 to 6 you should be able to get 90, if you do it 6 days after OP you actually losen to MPFL again... thats not good...

    How is your knee now in 2023? I’ve just been told I need MPFL, and very worried about recovery. I’m very active in my personal life, ballroom dancer, gym etc. I’m curious about how quickly you returned to “normal” and whether you notice any permanent changes to mobility.

    • @_yqlii

      I just got a MPFL surgery about a week ago. I am walking but cant bend my knee as much. I had bent it to 30 degrees. My doctors says recovery is about 4-6 months. You need to be mentally prepared for this also, it’s just the feeling of not being able to bend your knee just bothers you so much. When I bend my knee it feels really tight and not very comfortable. But Hopefully after the next 3 months of my physical therapy i’ll get better!! Long story short it’s a journey, but slowly you’ll get back to doing what you love without worrying about your kneecap popping out !!😂

    I dislocated my knee (2nd time in 5 years) playing soccer, put it back myself. MRI said MPFL is stretched, no tear. Doctors are telling me to get a surgery regardless considering future chances of dislocation and tear are high now. Am really worried. I have full range of motion after 1 week of injury, but strength isn't the same and some stiffness is there.

    HEY. I didn't have a surgery but there was a partial tear in my MPFL. I have followed the same procedure so far by taking rest and it's my week 3 and now I've started waking with me knee cap on but I feel a lot of stiffness and I am unable to bend or stretch my knee to the fullest. Did you also felt stiffness around your knee? where you also unable to bend your knee in the starting weeks?

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  Před 3 lety

      Yes! There was a lot of stiffness in my knee and that lasted for longer than I anticipated, and I couldn’t bend my knee even close to 90 degrees so it’s definitely normal just try and keep it moving as much as you can without it hurting so you start to regain that mobility.

    I'm getting this surgery in 2 months, and I'm supposed to be getting my license around that same time. My surgery will be on my left knee, so do you think i'd still be able to drive? Also, I'm getting the surgery in the offseason of my high school tennis season, and I'm worried I won't recover in time to start training. What was your total recovery time? (when you could like run and stuff)

      It took about 4 months to be fully back to normal activities and as for driving, the time when I was in the straight leg cast I definitely would not advise driving but when I was in the cast that allowed slight flexion I think because it’s your left knee you should be okay but it would be up for you to fully decide how you feel

    Hi! I know this is late but I just had mine last year, around November and I’m currently 5 months in. Recovery time for me is slow and still can’t bend my knee fully yet and there’s slight pain in doing that but I’m curious, could you actually bend your knee fully again like 160 degrees before after recovery?
    Cause right now, I’m wondering if I’ll ever get to bend my knee again like i use to. My knee’s Mobility range is still a little rusty and stiff to me.

      I had my surgery 2 months ago. My surgeon didn’t have me start bending my leg until 4 or 5 weeks post op.
      Right now, I can bend my knee to 100 degrees. I started bending my knee to 30. It’s definitely a challenge, a very uncomfortable one (painful). My surgeon told me to increase 20 degrees every 1.5 weeks. I have been increasing it 10 degrees every 5 days so it won’t be as much of a shock/as hard which has seemed to be working.
      I have been in physical therapy for a month already and just got on a stationary bike for the first time (since I finally have more range of motion to pedal)
      I am surprised she has been able to get back on her feet so fast! I have been super religious about doing all of my PT exercises everyday too 🤯. I can’t wait until I can run again!

      I started driving at end of week 2 but I would not advise at all, esp as it was my right knee operated on. I live in a car-centric city with no public transit so not many options. I’m taking back roads and no highways.
