Dana and Maureen are the only other interns to survive that long, but Kareem is also the only one to survive that long and hold the job! Think about it guys!

Don't forget, Cecil was groomed for years, presumably decades (according to [Best Of?]). Intern Kareem may be the successor, but Cecil's not going anywhere anytime soon.
I absolutely love this sport of episode. Something about the minor characters having to face the weirdness, showing how fucked up things actually are despite the passive coolness of Cecil's reporting. These characters have lives, and those lives are weird and they just have to get over it and carry on. It's why I love the novel, and Alice Isn't Dead. Pardon my stupid rambling, but yeh.

Theory: Nightvale exists outside of time, right on the point where universes meet.
By "exists outside of time", I mean Nightvale both exists and doesn't exist, at any given moment. It can exist in a time period where it wasn't founded yet, while also not existing for people outside of town. Also, it exists right now, and two years ago, and next week.
But also, right now the town is like we hear it, but also like we heard it two months ago, and like it was described to us in the first episode. Everything in Nightvale is happening simultaneously, while also happening at any point in time. Everything between its creation and its destruction is happening at once, while you are reading this. It also happened when you started this episode. Or when you'll go to sleep tonight.
And by "right in the point where universes meet", I base it on the idea that the multiple universe theory is real. There is a universe in which Kareem never left his family, one in which Mitchigan doesn't exist, one in which a community of five-headed dragons lives peacefully, one in which everything is a desert and cellphones never run out of battery. Nightvale is the only common point between all these universes, the only way to get from one to another. Except you don't really seem to chose which universe you're in. In Nightvale, you're in every one of them at the same time. When you leave, you can get in any other universe. Maybe one where everything is exactly the same except for some minor details you don't notice, and so you think you're home. Or maybe one where another you already exists. Or never existed.
Who knows. People tend to forget things when they stay too long in Nightvale. Didn't Cecil forget about his brother? Maybe that was in another universe. When something or someone stays too long out of your universe, they're erased from your reality.
No one's ever gonna read that so whatever. Also I got myself into an existential crisis.

I love Maureen, and Dana's great, but I'm pretty sure Kareem is my favorite station intern. Having Kareen play the Only Sane Man against Cecil is fantastic. (Well, in Night Vale, Kareem's the odd one . . . but you know. :P)
Is Cecil grooming Kareem to be his successor like Leland did him? What happens to a Night Vale radio host when they retire? I want to know yet I don't.

That was an alternate timeline actually. He's still around I think. He filled in for Cecil when he went on vacation.

This was such an interesting episode. I love hearing how Night Vale and the outside world interact. Honestly it's almost like Night Vale itself was trying to keep peeps there, like how Michigan disappeared from the map, and when he was home and he forgot he felt like he needed to be other place
Next is episode 100.. time flies.
Mitchigan was funny but Oheeo is what killed me

I loved this, and focusing on Kareem's story, and Cecil sounding affectionate. This is what I've hoped for a while, more stories that focus personally with one of the side characters.
During this episode, I was doing something on another tab. When the weather came on, all I heard was some cool instrumentals with people occasionally talking over it. I thought this was unusual, but I was kind of jamming out. It seemed to have ended pretty quickly, and I remarked to myself that it was shorter than the usual weather... only then, a second ad came on, and I realized.
I had been listening to an ad the entire time. I listened to an ad for approximately two entire minutes, because I wasn't on the tab, and _I thought it was the weather._
Am I the only one biding my time till Cecil and Carlos get engaged? Like, idk what it is but I just have been feeling like it's coming for the last few episodes....
venus kohana I thought I was the only who felt that! I feel like it should be during their 100th episode (which would be the next episode) or at least by the end of this season. I dunno, it just feels right. Though I can imagine getting an episode title like proposal or something similar but end up being through for a loop and it not being Cecilos. .......So, the implications of this episode are probably going to have massive ripple effects. I, I don't know how to feel about that. It's a good episode, but I wonder how the hell Night Vale exists as a town. I wonder what the hell will happen in episode 100. Scared, but hopeful
They actually already established and explored this concept a fair amount in the Welcome to Night Vale novel. This episode didn't really introduce anything new in that regard.

I think Night Vale's timeline is fluctuating between different timelines, like the timeline where Night Vale is destroyed. Also, it is interesting that Kareem is a potential new radio host.

I loved the music this episode. Not just the weather, but also the piano/ organ piece playing at the very end when Cecil is talking about Kareem and family. Disparition continues to do great work.

We can presume Kevin will stay there forever, as in an earlier episode we listened to an audio message from Kevin many many years in the future, when Kevin is wasting away, having regretted that Cecil never met Kevin before StrexCorp took over Desert Bluffs.
However, Carlos has no excuse, as he is safely in Night Vale!
I thought Kevin would be back by now though, because in Who's a good Boy part 2 (not 100% sure about the title but it's something similar) there was another message from Kevin after the proverb that seemed to be from the "current" timeline.(whatever that is. I've all but given up on understanding Nightvale time) It sounded like he'd return in the next arc but we got the Hiram Mcdaniels arc instead. maybe the next one after this?
Not actually certain about it Sarah, though if I had to guess the message could be from Kevin because it's widely presumed that the Beagle is the Smiling God. Though which Kevin on the timeline it is is the question.

maybe *hes* why cecil is going to take some time off - something's happened at home and he's going to take some time off to reconcile his relationship with him. I mean, we only ever heard good things about him. we only hear good things because at the end of the day, cecil is a host. he doent want the entirty of nightvale to hear about their fights and their falling outs. back when he was regularly talking about carlos, it was basicly him gushing about him. the few times we've heard him talk about him not like that, its been obvoius cecil was under a massive amount of stress, like in the doors arc where he was freaking about the possiblility of never seeing him again.
TL;DR - he hasnt mentioned him because theres soemthing going on at home and cecil still has to have *some* pretense of professionality
