    I am in a major rereading of Rosamund Pilcher books having enjoyed again "The Shell Seekers, Winter Solstice, and September" and now dipping into her short stories and other novels I somehow missed earlier. After that "Dinner with Edward" is a priority as well as the many earlier recommendations from you that I purchased. I always love your enthusiastic recommendations of books and feel a bond with you as someone, I think, who rarely has enough shelf space for all your lovelies, and never hesitates to bring another home to stay shelf space or not. We have sunshine and 57° weather in Tualatin, Oregon, today, a celebration, indeed, in early February.🌷🌷🌷🌷 - I have sweet yellow tulips myself but your red ones on table are beautiful.

    Hi Miranda, it has been a joy to be able to catch up with your videos after some busy weeks here. I can't tell you how happy I was to be reminded of a special book on my shelves. I rushed to find it and will now look forward to re-reading it. Emily Eden's books The Semi-attached Couple and The Semi-detached house was one of a pile of Virago books I spent my leaving gift money on (wasn't that a very Miranda thing to have done!) when I left work to have my daughter Léonie in 1982. Thank you so, so much for such lovely recommendations for February. Best wishes, Teresa 📚

    Have you seen the 1993 film adaptation of The Secret Garden, Miranda? The visuals and soundtrack are stunning! The child actors are good as well, and Maggie Smith as Mrs. Medlock brings just the right amount of snippiness and exasperation.

    I’m really enjoying “Miss Buncle’s Book” Miranda, and recently reread “The Secret Garden” - somehow its Yorkshire background was lost on me as a child born there! The Vita and Virginia book looks fascinating. I read the letters between Virginia and her husband, bought on a visit to Sissinghurst, I felt envious of their very cerebral relationship, they were a wonderful read.

    Who can resist anything Christie?! And Hear No Evil sounds like a wonderfully atmospheric mystery. It's always fun to discover a new bygone author, so I'm intrigued by Emily Eden, too. The plan on this icy New England evening is to curl up with a cup of tea and lose myself in Ms. Buncle's Book, which I'm very much looking forward to reading. Such a beautiful edition of "Sense and Sensibility"! I treated myself to Marjolein Bastin's "Jane Eyre" for my birthday last year and now want all of her editions. I totally agree about the 2020 adaption of "Emma". It was just visually perfect and true to the effervescence of the novel. Made we want to drink champagne and eat macarons! "The Last Garden in England" was enjoyable and a winter garden is an important part of the narrative, so a perfect February read. "The Christie Affair" is on my library list. "Agatha" is a favorite older film also about the mystery of her disappearance, starring Vanessa Redgrave and Dustin Hoffman. It inspired me to start reading Agatha Christie's books. Enjoy your weekend!💐

      Thank you so much, Shanne! Isn't it a gorgeous copy? You can always rely on Juliet Stevenson's unabridged audio recordings. I love her Sense and Sensibility in particular.

      I love those books too! It's sad they're not easy to find even secondhand. Enjoy your re-read, Christine!

    Thank you for your recommendations. Hear no Evil and A Single Thread of Moonlight sound wonderful.
    I have a question, last March you recommended a book about a wedding that took place on March 5th. The book took place in a single day - it was fiction. I wrote the name down so I could get the book this year for my birthday present, which is March 5th. However, I lost the list and cannot remember the name. Do you know which book I am describing?

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, that's Cheerful Weather for the Wedding by Julia Strachey. There's a lovely Persephone Classics edition.

    Where, where, where did you get a hard copy of Betsy’s Wedding? I have the whole series in lovely paperbacks published by William Morrow with 3 stories included in each. They are available on Amazon in the US.
    I would love to know the publisher of your hard copy. Love these books.
    Just paused your video to order Vita & Virginia. Photos look amazing.
