    How about adding some of those glue on buttons to close up that gap on the sides ?

  • @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures

    Great review of the Tuff Stuff Alpha roof top tent. We are traveling down to Nicaragua with ours.

    I agree with you regarding the rainfly. The center will cave in a little causing water to pool. During a heavy downpour , I notice, water had dripped inside my annex room. It actually leaked at the center through the seam, then through the zipper on the rainfly where the annex room zips. I had to waterproof that area. another improvement with regards to the annex room room is that on windy days, air blows through the opening on the side of the rainfly which funnel air into the annex room creating a balloon effect. This will not keep you warm when it's cold. Tuffstuff should add more velcro to completely seal the side of the rainfly.

      That’s good to know about the annex. We currently don’t have one but have thought about it.

    Great review! I currently have the HOG STY XL from Hills Offroad Gear I also would like to mention that my sides are exactly like yours...flimsy..but I have over 100+ nights in it and not one complaint! I'm looking to purchase another model/style for my son. I believe after your review I'll pull the trigger! Cheers from Montana!

      100+ night! Nice. We managed to get 30 nights last summer and loved it.

    Thanks. first comments I have seen about water or bugs and I am thinking dust maybe getting into the tent. I have an Alpha ll and my gaps are at the corners and worried about water and dust, especially when I do trails in the SW USA.

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety +2

      I would be interested in hearing how it does on the dusty trails. So far it hasn’t been a problem for us.

    my biggest complaint is the mounting system. It's made for a max load bar width of 3.25" which is .25" smaller than the slats on frontrunner racks which is a mainstream manufacturer and i couldn't find any other options out there to fix. So what I ended up doing was finding out that the James Baroud brackets actually fit the rails on the Tuff Stuff... width-wise anyway... The problem is that system uses carriage bolts (like most other systems like this) which makes the bracket too tall to fit. The bolts that come with the tuff stuff are kind of proprietary, but they're basically a custom carriage bolt that keeps the profile low. Anyway, to use those with these brackets, I had to widen the holes to 7/16 which was an odd size compared to everything else mounted to my truck and turned out to be a bit of a pain in the ass. Anyway, it's taken care of now.
    My only other complain is lack of things to hang things from inside the tent. Like I can't clip my ipad mount to anything other than the strut. Aside from that, it's a solid tent.

      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety

      Wow. That is quite the process you had to go through to get it mounted. Glad to hear its all done now. It would be cool if there was a net/mesh shelf at the top of the tent for keys/wallets/phones etc.

    Hey @ ExploreTrekAdventure! Recommended by TuffStuff to check out your review. We also run the Alpha RTT and love it. Similar likes/dislikes...the shell material on ours also has a slight warped spot now, but may work out over time...we shall see. I will say, we got a 2nd switch for our outside lights. Just ask Amo and he'll hook you up! Really liked your video and subbing now :)
    Btw, we try putting out regular content too (some with our RTT) swing by sometime.......

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety +1

      Tuff Stuff contacted us and is sending a second switch and some kind of molding trim to put on the rim of the shell. Will have to see if it helps. 😃

    • @MountainRoots
      @MountainRoots Před 3 lety

      @@ExploreTrekAdventure I think our RTT came with the molding on it (just a few months after yours arrived). From your video I can say that the molding must help some because ours doesn't look as warped as yours, but it is still a bit misshapen. Good luck!

    Do you have any trouble closing with bedding stowed inside? My iKamper mini is quite tight and can be nearly impossible to close the last few inches if you have anything at all inside.

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety

      It’s a tight fit with just the mattress so we do not leave any bedding in the tent besides the sheet.

  • @Miikmik
    @Miikmik Před 3 lety

    Did you guys needed a condensation mat for your tent?

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety +1

      No. The only thing we have under the mattress is a sheet of Reflectix. This drastically reduces the heat/cool transfer from the bottom of the tent to the mattress which seems to help. (Plus it is a lot warmer)

    Did they offer a better price during the new release phase?

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety

      Yes they had a lower price overall plus a coupon for pre-ordering. It ended up being $1685 and i think they are $2400ish now.

    Hi Kelly - did you build your own trailer?

    • @ExploreTrekAdventure
      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety

      No. We purchased the trailer from Costco many moons ago. It’s just a basic utility trailer.

  • @J_PIK
    @J_PIK Před 3 lety +1

    I have an Alpha and that bow in the lip is definitely a defect you shouldn’t have. All my sides are flush with a paper thin gap when closed. Asking for a replacement would be tedious but this is a tent that will last you decades. Get it replaced before you regret it. 👍

      @ExploreTrekAdventure  Před 3 lety +2

      Tuff Stuff Contacted us and are sending a trim piece to go around the edge so we will see how that does.
