  • It's no secret that we love TuffStuff and their Alpha roof top tents. One of the great thing about the company is they continue to improve their already great products.. and they listen to their customers. Now that the new Alpha is out, and even more ready for adventure, we had to get our hands on one to check it out and show you what the fuss is all about. This tent is, more than ever, our favorite tent on the market. It's a great quality tent and what we feel is easily the best bang for your buck hardshell tent.
    These are coming to our online store soon. In the meantime your can find them at: tuffstuff4x4.com
    Check out TBO March and the Gear we use at: shoptrailbende...

    Just finished setting up this tent and I love the pockets on the inside of the hard top! Also, I noticed that the rainfly does have clear plastic over the moon room, I was worried it didn't but I love being able too open it up and see the stars! So if anyone has this tent, the when I closed it up I didn't tuck things into the front door and it made packing harder lol so note that he tucks things inside the tent then uses the strap 🤣🤣

    Good video. I noticed that you didn’t mention the addition of the insulation zipper on the inside of the tent.
    My understanding is that all the new tents are shipping with a zipper on the inside to hang up the optional tent insulation for winter camping.

      I’m 99% sure yours will have all the new features. It won’t let you down! Little tip I’ve learned since making the video, the lock straps will work a lot better if you don’t make the Velcro straps too tight. Let the tent push up and tension the metal lock straps then adjust the Velcro straps to just hold it in that same place. Don’t yank hard on them.

    These Alpha's can be mounted to open driver or passenger side, though consideration must be given to wind drag, if mounted close to or above the roof line.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety +1

      True. They are designed to open to the right with the hump at the rear. You could mount it facing the other way but it would look kinda backwards when closed. To each their own though!

    Great detailed review. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago. I can’t wait.
    Question - The rain fly seems to be reflective on its underside. On sunny days, would there be a problem if I draped it over the Black top of the Alpha 2? I feel this might help with daytime heating.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      Oh you’re going to love it! That’s a good idea with the rain fly. It definitely can’t hurt. It’ll flap around if it’s windy but otherwise it could only help with the heat.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s always better with roof tents to have good quality and packable sleeping bags. They’re more expensive but they fit better. That said. We fit a 0 degree recreational double sleeping bag in the alpha no problem. It might take a couple practice try’s to get it just right but you’ll get it. That one that stays in our alpha is pretty thick.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I keep it on all the time. Two people can take it on and off as it's not so heavy but 3 or 4 people makes it really easy.

    I own the alpha also but I have a problem maybe you might help me with (looking for a solution). I have a 270 degree awning that will not allow the tent to open properly. Love both but really want the awning because I'm going to be retired and full timing it. I have the tent on my 2017 4runner with a prinsu lo pro roof rack. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      Oh bummer! Would be happy to help. Is the tent hitting the awning when the tent opens? I know 270 awnings can be quite tall.

    • @glenh4397
      @glenh4397 Před 3 lety

      @@TrailBendersOverland Yep....I even tried moving the tent all the way to the passenger side and slid the brackets out all the way on the driver's side for the awning and it still wasn't gonna work. Plus too much overhang is not good for off roading. I may have to go with a different type of tent.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      You can comfortably fit 3 adults in there. It’s a queen size bed. They don’t make an extreme weather covers yet for the alphas. Pretty sure those are coming soon.

    Will I need a condensation mat for the Alpha ii?

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      Depends on what kind of camping you do. The alpha II won’t perform any different that other tents with condensation. So if it’s something you’re concerned about or if you’ve had issues in the past, then I definitely recommend the anti-condensation mat.

    Could you remove the ladder when you’re in the tent

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety

      You cannot. The ladder is a big part of what supports the tent while it's open.

  • @BiscuitBoyTN

    will these fit on a tundra short bed (2013) ?

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety +2

      It will similar to the gladiator. The tent will stick out the back a little since it’s longer than the bed. Unless you have a cab height bed rack, then you can push it forward a little over the cab.

    • @TrailBendersOverland
      @TrailBendersOverland  Před 3 lety +1

      Not really. All of these tents come from the same factory or two in China. There're several companies that put their own brand on the side and make slight changes to try and make them unique but the reality is the design is a Chinese design and several companies are making them.
