Gather round, m*ggles! After getting a surprising amount of requests to watch the Harry Potter series, we finally sat down for our longest commentary marathon yet. In fact, marathoning eight movies while also talking out loud for all twenty hours was such a genuinely arduous task that we both ended up getting sick for a week or two after. I'm still coughing! Magic!!! ✨✨✨ We also stumbled up a 9/11-related fan fiction to read across all eight commentary tracks called Tumbling Towers. It's super compelling and emotional and should have been released as Book 8. (Cursed Child, eat your heart out.) Need I say more? It's Harry friggin Potter! LETS DO THIS!!!

First member of the Potter family, Linfred, made a heck ton of money off selling potions like “skele-grow” or pepper potion”. Time skip and you have Fleamont Potter, Harry’s grandfather, creating Sleekeazy’s hair potion and, again, making a fortune off of it. If James and Lily were still alive, they could still make a lot more money.

The color desaturation in the last 3 movies is bonkers. Just because they're living "dark times" doesn't mean that color would literally disappear from existence.

DH part 1 isn't really that desaturated, I actually think it's one of the best-looking films, despite not having any crazy inventive sets apart from the Ministry of Magic. But Half Blood Prince and DH part 2 definitely suffer from a lack of color.
its def worse in other films but it still feels so weird that now the universe has a sepia filter. plus films w dark content and bright set designs can have a rlly nice contrast between what youre seeing and whats actually happening if its done right

I never understood why Hermione lied about why she was in the bathroom with the troll… like she could have just said “oh I was takin a shit and had no idea about the troll”.
Yes! I never understood why they felt they had to lie. They weren't doing anything against the rules. Harry and Ron went to find Hermione alone (which is probs an error in judgement), because they'd just heard of the troll's escape, and they knew Hermione was upset and crying in the girl's bathroom, so went to find her. I don't get the Hermione lie.
Because she wanted Harry and Ron's favor. Simple as that.

She essentially took the blame for them. She made out like she had left to go face the troll and Ron and Harry went to save her. It made Harry and Ron look noble in their actions and Hermione looking stupid for going after a troll by herself. Had she not said anything and all of them looked like they went to go face a troll they’d all be in trouble. But Hermione was a smart student who made a very poor judgement call and Harry and Ron simply went to try and save her. Rather than all 3 of them being dumb students who went to attack a troll 😂

It seems like she could have said “I was in the bathroom and didn’t hear the announcement about the troll, the troll attacked me and they saved my life because they knew I was in here and wanted to warn me” then the boys are still heroes and there is no one to blame because nobody did anything wrong.

One thing that’s always baffled me, is why there is a spell called “eat slugs” alongside all the other far more understandable and wizard-esque incantations. Then there’s just…EAT SLUGS!
Assuming "eat slugs!" was just an exclamation, I just realized that Ron cast a jinx/hex/curse *non-verbally.* That takes some *skill* to do in the HP universe. Granted, it backfired, but that's a nasty attack if used properly.

I think they can do magic without proper incantations if there's enough emotion behind it but it's unpredictable
If I'm not mistaken, the reason Ron knew about invisibility cloaks is that you actually can pick them up at the store but those are made of demiguise hair, which yellows over time so its not a permanent invisibility cloak, unlike the real one which is made of Death's invisibility cloak, so it's implied that his cloak is the real deal but they just never knew to question it

The whole "Ron being angry" thing in the Deathly Hallows is supposed to feel forced. It's because he's wearing the amulet. It's corrupts your thoughts and turns you negative. That's why it felt so sudden of a change.
The thing is the films make it seem like it was over a weekend whereas in the books he was being slowly corrupted for MONTHS and said nothing because he didn't want Harry or Hermione to suffer it so he just took the brunt of it.

@Sally Vee It's been a long time since I read the last book, but I don't remember anything implying he was gay. They were two boys who wanted to take control of the muggles for the greater good. Stuff happened, Aberforth, Dumbledore and Grindelwald got into a big fight, and Ariana died. Then he avoided fighting Grindelwald because he was afraid of learning he had cast the spell that killed his sister.
I mean, if you can point out some things that imply it I'm all ears, but it just seemed like two geniuses who became arrogant and power hungry before one changed his mind because of what it led to.

When I first saw movie 5 I was confused as to why Harry was teaching other students when he shouldn't know anymore than they do about defensive magic, until I re-read book 4, which mentioned that Harry actually did study a lot of spells that weren't part of the regular curriculum for the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

In total, the potter movies are 22 hours long, roughly, including the credits, but if you add the 5 Fantastic Beasts movies (Ik only 2 have been made so far) It would be 1 day and 8 hours to watch the entire Wizarding World franchise, probably even longer.

the invisibility cloak harry has is legendary due to its effectiveness according to the book. others aren't as clear or sound muffling. there's a spell but it only makes you mostly invisible to pass as a trick of the light but if you walked right in front of someone, they would see you.

Not sure if anyone said this already, but Invisibility Cloaks do exist in the regular Wizarding World... but they apparently have a limited-time use and can stop working. The Deathly Hallows Invisibility Cloak *never* runs out and lasts forever. Everyone just thought that Harry had a normal one, so they never suspected that it was a Hallow.

@@sartanko It is; Moody had at least two normal invisibility cloaks (Sturgis Podmore and Mundungus Fletcher wore one each), as did Barty Jr. in Goblet of Fire (when his father hid him and at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup) and Mr. Weasley in Order of the Phoenix (when he was attacked by Nagini in the Ministry of Magic, he fell asleep at his post and the cloak fell off before he was attacked). The normal invisibility cloaks were usually made of Demiguise hair, and only lasted for a certain amount of time (pretty sure it was a few years up to a decade) before they stopped working altogether, or were normal cloaks with disillusionment magic put on them.
