    PINNING THESE UPDATES:
    For those who are curious: yes, there is enough room for the Vocal Designer, JD-800, and still two Wave Expansions on the X/Xm. And maybe a little room for the future 😉
    Also, here’s more info clarification on the WC-1 and Roland Cloud Connect:
    - The WC-1 does not have to be plugged in to use the downloadable Tones or Expansions.
    - But it does need to be reinserted once every 30 (or before) power cycles to “phone home” and keep those installables operational. The clock resets whenever the WC is reinserted.
    - The user will get a prompt starting at 20 cycles so as not to be surprised.
    - The first year of Roland Cloud Pro membership comes with WC/RCC. At the end of the first year, the user can just renew RC at Pro level for another year ($99) and keep it going. Or not.
    - So take these additional details into consideration when making a choice to purchase $149 Lifetime Keys (which continue to work without an RC subscription, but still require RCM and an account), or to give the WC/RCC plan a try for a year before deciding, or choose “neither.”

      Thank you for this information. I think it should be in the video itself. I wouldn't buy WC-1. About the vocal designer, does it let you vocode with any tone and/or part you have on the synth, or does it only work with sounds that were made specifically for it?

    Can you please provide me advise on the following:
    How do I setup the arpeggios on a Jupiter-X, so that they play independent from each other other multiple keyboard splits? I tried to setup keyboard ranges for each parts, but no matter what I do the arp's do not play independent. Play an arp on one split and it affects the arps on other split. It looks like the arps cannot be separated and are triggered by the entire keyboard, despite the key ranges. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Robert, I hope you are doing well. I didn't see recent videos from you. You should definitely continue.
    An idea for the next one : a "from scratch" tutorial on the Jupiter X/Xm with v3.0 and all the UI enhancements they've made so far.
    I'm on Xm and I learned it the old way, so now I'm a bit confused with all the changes since v1.5, then v2 and v3.
    I hope Roland will do it's own series too.

    • @RobertSaintJohn
      @RobertSaintJohn  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Alexandros, I definitely want to create more videos and soon, especially with 3.0 now out. I agree, what is needed is an entire re-introduction to the X/Xm. I would love to delete my old useless videos! I had started on such a project in December (with 2.0) but ran out of time before starting a new job, which is keeping me so busy. I’m glad I didn’t do them, they’d now be out of date too! But the 3.0 X/Xm bare no resemblance to the JUPITERs of 2 years ago, and I really want to set the record straight and demo all of the better workflow and features, on both synths. I want to get to these as soon as time allows, as they remain my number one synths on a day to day basis. Thank you for checking in, and for your patience!

      @@RobertSaintJohn Thanks for the reply ! Glad to read that you're still on it ! I hope Roland will also make some official tutorial series starting from the basics, the Xm particularly needs this as it has more shift functions/layers of control.
      The new engine sounds awesome and solves my interrogations on the initial limits of the Jupiter X model, I'm thinking this is how it should have been fom the start, better late than never ! The Jupiter X model is now a very powerful VA synth to do sound design with.
      The fact they unleashed the model will make it less confusing for us who want to do sound design right on the unit as we will have less "not available" messages on the screen when creating/tweaking a preset on the Jupiter X model and the mapping will make more sense. Though we still have access to SH, JX for their own particularities when we need to. Much more coherent overall.
      I wish they added more filter models though, like a TB-303, MS-20 and ARP filter ! They have 3 other slots with SHIFT + the filter buttons 😉

I'm a Roland Cloud ULTIMATE subscriber, and I see the WC-1 comes with a PRO 12 month subscription. How are they handling the credit towards either your renewal, or adding time to your existing subscription? Maybe they add 6 months if you have ULTIMATE since it's twice the price? WC-1 is WiFi, you actually have to use the app to configure its access to your router. The app is like an interface to it and the cloud access, but the only Bluetooth check is the app locating your systems’ IDs. Everything else seems to flow through the WC-1, which is why it’s so fast

    So my understanding is that the dongle creates a BT connection with a mobile device which then communicates with Roland Cloud through Wifi. • @RobertSaintJohn
      @RobertSaintJohn  Před 2 lety +1

      The WC-1 uses both BT and WiFi, and it is what bridges the WiFi connection between the JUPITER and access point (router) to the Cloud. The app is essentially an interface for the WC-1. It seems convoluted, but I suppose necessitated by their desire for licensing and content protection. At least the user experience is very nice.

      But man I’m so tempted to get the Vocal Designer Expansion. I’ve never even imagined we could have so many different sounds by combining them with different carriers and settings. I always thought of vocoders as having one sound and a few settings like chorus. Now being able to tweak these and get my own vocoder voice is quite unique.
      By calling this « Vocal Designer » though, I was expecting they would ship it with auto-pitch functions as well. Let’s hope those are reserved to be built-in a future firmware.

    The wireless adapter is amusing to me. They actually found a way to charge you a fee (average $90) for a device that circumvents a USB cable (average $10) and allows you to download expensive expansions for your synth wirelessly through your home router. Brilliant. I circumvented this money grab by running an extra-long USB cable around the room to my keyboard rack and simply unplug & plug it into any of my Roland synths when I need to work on the PC. :)
