You're a legend Jorden. The same thing happened to my Italian friend in Florence, Italy. She is from Florence and was walking on the sidewalk while talking on her cellphone. A guy came buy on a bicycle and ripped the phone out of her hand. Like you, she lost her mind, and gave chase, but the guy was too fast and she couldn't catch him. My friend is a 59 year old woman and the guy was probably 30. She didn't care. Like you said it was fight or flight and she chose to fight.

You have to know that Ecuador used to be one of the safest countries to visit until after the pandemic. Last time I went was 2018 and I had a great time in Banos.

The most common theft in South America. As a regular traveler and living in Colombia 6 months of the year I see it all the time. Tourists always are careless with their expensive electronics

Better advice is to use a cloud to autobackup pics and important things and have a travel insurance. Then just log on to find my phone and lock/erase it .. then u have everything when u need a new mail

I have been to quito a couple of years ago and half the people I met at the hostel got either robbed, mugged or their phone stolen including me. Its just a part of visiting quito 🙃

A thing you need to remember if you ever go to ecuador is the fact that YOU NEVER pull your phone out in the street, since in the last few years the crime has increased by a lot.
Edit: Some areas have more crime than others but still be careful as there is crime in pretty much every area

Someone tried to steal my dog called 'bear; so basically he tried to steal my dog like this; he hit my dad in the head with a hard sharp object. At this point the person had bear, but my dad noticed so my dad resled bear off him then my other dog called 'molly', molly already just ran of. So my dad got molly and hopped back in the car and drove back home. My mum went to the hospital with my dad. And it turned out my dad got a concussion and he got a black eye. Also the person that tried to steal my dog had a red van he was white bald and he looked like he was in his mid 40-50's so yeah this all happend in the highlands, scotland rosavochkie state.
