I appreciate the on trail review of the 244's. Ride on fellaz
Thanks! Yeah, if you are doing 50/50 street and trails.. these are good. If you are more trails, I would go with a knobby tire. The 244 is a good all around and wears pretty slow.
great video. good too see how things go for new riders too. I've watched so many Sur Ron videos and everyone is like a pro rider from dirt bikes so actually was good too see how it is for a beginner like myself. I'm about to buy a Sur Ron within the next month so cant wait to experience and learn as well!
Thanks man! You are going to love the Sur-ron. I can't find anyone that doesn't love it. Great bike to learn on for sure!
@@clu801 can't wait! So excited to get it soon!
This was pretty cool. I was also in the same boat as you (except I have a Talaria) and ended up choosing the Shinko 241. I have no complaints about it, but then I haven't ridden the 244 either. I'm tempted to get both just to be able to compare them. The only thing that swayed me to the 241 (which I'm sure you came across too) was the softer compound - and even so, given the weight of these bikes, I don;t see either of these tires 'wearing out' any time soon. And... no tire, except a truly hard core motocross tire, is going to do well in mud. But then you also give up a lot of 'streetability' for that special case mud performance.
A direct mount riser stem (2.5 ", gritshift) and riser bars (3") are the best and most noticeable mods I've done so far. Cockpit and ergonomic improvements make a difference **all the time.**
Something about the 'Bad Dad' moments... people can't progress and grow if they aren't challenged beyond their comfort zone 👍
Some would argue that failure is the best way to push boundaries, strengthen the psyche, and learn (and master) something new 😉
Hey thank you so much for these comments. I appreciate feedback and validation ;) as for the tire.. the 244 is actually really great. Like your situation.. I have not rode the 241. But I think I will probably end up getting a 16" rear wheel and keep this on for street riding and switch to the 16" for trails.. not sure yet.. the tires are cheap enough that even replacing a knobby on the 16 wouldn't be too bad occasionally.
I have new bars and am undecided on the stem at this point.. but even just the rise on the bars is HUGE.. I can't believe I didn't do it sooner :(
I have taken my son out a few times since.. and he is rallying and fast.. that crash didn't dissuade him at all hahah.
@@clu801 Yeah im running 16" rear 19'' front and it great for offroad rubbish on road so im now looking at Shinko 244 or 241 for road use as i ride on road more than i do offroad.
You definitely have the best comment 🏁
2/11 let them handle difficult situation by themself, don't make em a blob ;-) your a fantastic father for doing this, that's how you make a strong Man
Thanks Zak! He has already come a long way since this video. Getting better all the time! We are looking forward to spingtime to get going again ;)
You are exactly right about the weight. Keep your butt planted. In super muddy areas I leave it in EP mode.
7:05 I think the wire is for a GPS or turn signals.
Thanks for sharing!
Aloha and take care
thanks for the comment. You are right, I found out later that that plug is for a gps module. And ya keep the butt down!
you are such a great dad. mine would be loosing his mind he has the patience of a 3 year old. i would be laughing my ass off if it were my kid but giving good advice like you did hahahahaha.
LOL hey I appreciate that! We all (dads) do our best, just in different ways I am sure. Doing this stuff with him is just as much for me as it is for him ;)
prety sure the plug that came out is for the segway version with bluetooth module this plug is not conected to anithing on the surrons so dont worry its fine
Hey, thanks for watching, you are right it is for the Bluetooth module. I appreciate the comment for sure.
17:37 well, bringing him here with the oem tire is a bit mean Xp
LOL yeah.. this is true.. even the shinko struggled. Time for a 16/19 setup with some traction for this type of riding.
A ride that may be good for one might not be goo for others i don't like riding rocky had trail on my Sur ron
To be honest.. I don't like riding rocky terrain much ether.. I prefer flow trails and such. The 244's are a good all around tire.. like 50/50 but a bit on the heavy side. I think next time I will try something different.
Air down lol
Lol. I wanted to but these bikes don't come with rim locks and I didn't want to sheer off a valve stem
Teenagers are so dramatic lol
Right? LMAO
