Yeah, the smoke deflector was deployed when going through tunnels to keep the BLAST from the exhaust from dislodging debris from the roofs of tunnels. I don't think it would ever be deployed outside of a tunnel...I think...🤔

Nice review, the smoke deflector was on the prototype,it could be turned on from in the cab ,it came up from both sides of the stack and met in the middle to look like the plastic peice, check out the last of the giants to see one in action, cheers ,Jon

Have a MTH big boy and it pulled 2 Atlas 44/66 Trainmasters one Athearn GP 38 a EMD F7A and B from Bockman Plus a Bockman DD a 40 X Bachmann RS3 S2 S4 all at the same time with some freight cars kind of interested to see a tug-of-war between them The MTH and the Broadway limited big boys

  • @choochoo3985

You said "wheels on the side and they were red", but remember this is an oil fed locomotive and the two red wheels were for cinder dump; you know, shake your grates! Red because they would be HOT.

You give it a 9.5, but I give it a 10+. For example one feature no one else has applied, including Marklin or TRIX are the 45 degree supports on the front stations near the smoke door. Then add the whistle smoke; If not a 10, Athearn must be a 6 and MTH barely an 8. Oh, one more thing, the chuff is withheld at start of roll just like the real thing. YEP, a 10+.

Those rear lights are incorrect...4014 where the red rear tender lights at are steps. The true red rear light is above the rear reverse light .and watch out on how much u use the smoke units..I had 4 different locos for bli that the smoke unit smoke leaks inside the boiler and that oilly resido lays to the engine board inside the boiler and blows out your decoders.

    • @michaelcudby787

IMO I dont rate pulling power as the be all to end all. I have several different big boys, & they all differ in pulling power but if s big boy looks ok pulling a string of cars up my grades, thats ok,too, wether it be 15 to 18 cars, as I dont have a huge layout. To me, the slower the loco moves silky smooth, then that is THE important thing. I must say, tho, I do have a BLI blueline BB, with a really nice decoder in it, & that thing you have to look really close to see if it is moving in step 1.HEAVY !!. the tender alone is heavier than most of my diesels.I have had mixed results with BLI, but that BB is beatifull.Love the reviews Matt. No bullshit.Just straight up.Cheers. Hoping your eyes come right, too.BTW
