    This 2024 model of the 4Runner arrives as the finale before a long awaited major redesign, breaking the industry's average seven-year cycle with a remarkable 14-year stretch since its last update. A testament to its enduring design, the 2024 4Runner continues its tradition of being built on the same platform as the midsize Toyota Tacoma, which has itself seen two redesigns in the interim. Despite its unchanged status this year, its longevity in the market places it in a unique position against newer rivals. What do we think of it in its final form of this generation? Would we wait for the next one, or jump on this before it enters its next phase?

    I’ve owned Corollas, Land Cruisers, and 4Runners. I still own a 4Runner 3rd gen & 80 series Land Cruiser. I have to say the 4Runner is the most practical & reliable vehicle. Cost of maintenance is also low

      having had a 4th gen 4runner and a 100 series myself, I agree with you totally, 4runners are the lowest maintenance 4x4 you can run. practical enough to run long distances, and park in the lot.

    I would stick with this 5th Gen 4Runner. At least you know what you’re getting; honest bulletproof reliability and pure ruggedness in the naturally aspirated V6 engine. A Ford, Jeep and Chevrolet will be in the shop all the time. Keep the oil changed in the Toyota 4Runner and you’re golden for hundreds of thousands of miles plus their high resale value is unmatched.
    I’ll wait to hear reviews from those who choose the new 6th Gen 2025 model with the turbo 4, but I still believe if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.

    • @O-PAC
      @O-PAC Před 2 měsíci +5

      Yes this 5th gen is the one to go with. That 4.0 has proven itself and I wish Toyota would keep it as an engine option on the 6th gen 4Runner and the 4th generation Tacoma so people have other options. Maybe just add a gear box with more gears for fuel efficiency and better power band. The new tundra proved to be a big disappointment with its turbo wastegate issues at less than 3k miles and one dude driving his home from the dealership to find his rear axle was broken. Good looking truck but again I wish the V8 was an option there. Now I’m already seeing videos with a new Tacoma breaking its front diff on an easy obstacle and another guy already taking his to the shop because his check engine light already came on. I grew up with Toyotas but these aren’t exactly inspiring confidence in the new redesigns. Which is a shame because they look good. People like to talk smack about the American brands but my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been more reliable than my wife’s 2015 Toyota Corolla. Her car has been in the shop 3 times just in the last 4 months versus the 0 times my Jeep has in 5 years. And I off road the Jeep in the mountains of Colorado and Utah. My dad has a 2017 Chevy 3/4 ton that he takes up to the mountains as well and it’s got 220k miles with no issues. I want to replace the Corolla with a 4Runner TRD Pro but the price point right now needs to come down a bit, which I don’t see happening.

      @@O-PAC Fair point. My dig at the other car makers is based upon over all track records and feedback heard from a lot of previous owners. Any vehicle is going to run well as long as you take care of it. Also every car manufacturer is going to have its outliers right?
      I just had a friend of mine that was having electrical problems out of his 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD that he bought brand new last year. He kept getting the run around at the dealership he purchased it from and ended up trading it for a new one at a different Chevrolet dealership. Now you know the 2023 models were $55 -$60K brand new and that’s being modest. The 2024 models are in the $70K range. You would expect a basic level of reliability for a vehicle that costs that much with hardly any miles on it.
      I guess I’m just partial to Toyota and Subaru specifically because they are car brands known for their consistency when it comes to reliability and maintaining high resale value. Are they all perfect? No, but you know what I’m getting at. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and what you’re willing to pay for.
      As far as trying to get your hands on a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro, I’m with you. You need to shop around a lot not only at dealership’s in your home state but outside as well. Just inquire what their out the door prices are (including all taxes, fees and add-ons) and see how far they are willing to negotiate. I can tell you from experience they aren’t as inclined to come off too much. The TRD Pro are in limited supply because Toyota only builds 2000-3000 units per year. Based upon dealer allocations some get 1, 2 or maybe 3 if they are lucky while some won’t get any TRD Pro on their lots
      The dealerships in my home state were way above market so I did a search in a 500 mile radius at border states and found ones who were willing to negotiate and come off of some of the add-ons. They still charged MSRP but just no mark-ups. When the dealerships at home called back to inquire about whether I was still looking for one I asked if they could beat the other out the door price offersI found at out of state dealers including the tax for my home state and none of them could. One came within $1K but couldn’t beat it. That was the litmus test. None of the dealerships I found were willing to go under MSRP or below invoice for a TRD Pro but you never know you may find that one hidden gem of a dealership.
      I’m highly skeptical about the new twin turbo 4 cylinder even more so now after what you said about the new Tacomas. I’ll wait until they work out the kinks and any recalls in the 2025 models and beyond with the turbo V4. Redesign the vehicle fine but if the V6 engine has a proven record for reliability leave it the hell alone. Try to improve the gas mileage and emissions but otherwise don’t mess with it.

    • @justahumbledude
      @justahumbledude Před měsícem +1

      Ofc the 4Runner is a dinosaur....but here's the thing....reliability was the old school Toyota. Sure, you can wait for all the whiz bang technical updates and overall design in the 25 4Runner, but at the cost of the turbo injected 4cyl engines that have really started out with a "bang"---and that wasn't a compliment. I bought the 24 Camry v6 just because I wanted a naturally aspirated engine above 4cyl.....I'm ok with hybrid....without a turbo injected engine. I also have a 24 RAV4 Hybrid and it's perfect. These are midsize vehicles that aren't doing anything fancy.
      In short, these "tank" vehicles and trucks that are meant for REAL tasks and off-roading are all going to suffer, because Toyota prioritized Government rebates over providing the consumer what they want.

    I know what I would do, I picked up a new 5th gen last fall. All the upgraded safety I could need, old school Toyota durability and the product of 15 years of continuous refinement. In America we embrace this throw away culture and the desire to be seen in the fanciest, newest thing, with the most fashionable new technology that you don’t really need. If you want a fashion accessory and be part of the latest cool fad there are better options, if you don’t care about image or social status, and like to use 4wd’s hard, this is the last true good one IMHO. There is a reason there are people in the industry that proclaim this is the best vehicle currently in production from a quality and reliability stand point.

    The 4runner is superior to the Bronco in terms of noise, vibration and rattles. More importantly, it will be infinitely more reliable. The 4runner is the most durable, reliable and overbuilt new car for sale in the US period. 400,000+ miles is no problem for these vehicles at all with regular oil changes and routine maintenance. The Bronco will be lucky to hit 125k miles without major problems and a dozen shop visits for repairs along the way.

    My daughter went to a dealer yesterday with over 40 4Runners in stock. She was wanting a SRPremium 4x4. They offered $4800 of the sticker, then added a couple thousand in useless crap and fees. Offered her $500 for her 2012 Rav 4 and then refused to give her her keys back. She is 8 1/2 pregnant and had a dr's appointment to make. It was frustrating to her her tell be about it. I would not recommend North Austin Toyota. I am a Toyota manufacturer employee and can get a decent discount. They said they could beat that without any proof or pin number. Thats alone is sketchy.

Now that I've seen what the 6th gen looks like, I know I'll be keeping my 2019 4R TRD Pro for the rest of my life. The floaty Fox suspension on the pro is my favorite drive I’ve ever experienced on a truck. Add the JBL stereo, dual climate and the 1 inch factory front lift to give the pro a better stance.
