I'm the trumpet player in this video. Tori is indeed an amazingly talent vocalist! Thank you for your wonderful review, Fil, and the comments from subscribers on this page.
Huge kudos to the other collaborators on this project: Ynping Mak (violins), Clayton Wisenant (bass), Yoann Palacio (drums), and James Wilkas (everything, including being the glue that holds us together).
Great job Gary! Thanks for the comment!
Hi; from another trumpet player! Is it kind of intimidating laying down a famous track like this? Did Richard play on the original? I know he played. 🎺
👏👏👏👏outstanding performance 🍾🥂
Well done Gary and the whole crew! ❤
As a fellow trumpet player I must give you kudos. Well done! 👊🏼👏🏻
She has a great voice, very similar to KC but honestly this just makes me realize just how ridiculously flawless KC was.
Excellent comment!
Totally agree!!
👍
My thought while listening as well.
Totally agree with this comment; let's face it, I'm totally ensconced with Karen's voice.
WOW!
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review of Jim and I’s collaboration. I learned stuff about my own voice that I didn’t even know! 😂
Jim is an amazing musician, producer, video editor, and not to mention, so fun to work with! Definitely much more to come.
Love the channel, and how intelligently you look at the production, vocals, musician, etc.! Thanks for letting us be apart of it!
Tori
Tori's in the comments -- Yay!!!!! Thank you for a great performance and for your appreciation of Karen. :-)
Thanks so much for bringing Karen back to us. You are phenomenal. 😭♥
Tori, you are amazing! Thank you for the music.
Wow so amazing Tori❤
Can't believe you are here commenting!!
It's been my honor to do this recording with Tori! She sets the bar quite high, and she has inspired me to meet it the best I could!❤
Closest capture of Karen Carpenter's voice, resonance and style I've ever heard in my life. Karen always had the best female voice ever. This is eerily mind blowing.
There is another singer, I forgot her name but she sounds just like Karen.
But I think the best I have heard is a woman named Harriet.
Could it be Shane Ericks you are thinking of?
She has a lovely voice, but doesn’t sound like Karen Carpenter to me.
@@artfartzy the only other voice I’ve heard that is similar is Rumer, worth checking out if you’re not familiar with
My first impression was "Goosebumps!" Followed that up by a welling up of tears.
Awesome!!!
glad I wasn't the only one
Same here
It's good but she doesn't get me emotionally sorry, Lucy Thomas on the other hand does whether or not she has been pitch corrected is irrelevant because Lucy sounds even more beautiful live then in the studio.
Likewise!
me too!
Nice to see a young person pay a lovely tribute to the great Karen Carpenter.
Yes, indeed. Lovely!
Tribute my a##
I’ve waited my entire life and I’m 55 years old for someone who had Karen Carpenter‘s voice she sang like an angel, and just stole your heart. I never thought I would ever hear her voice again, except on a recording. This young girl has quite a career ahead of her, people miss Karen Carpenter, so terribly that the tragedy of her life ending has never gone away and now something to smile about and honoring her
Hope no career comes out of this imitation
@@user-rl2jh3wn4t How thoughtful and kind you are in response to people who have generously taken their time - and a considerable amount of trouble - to bring their talents to the world.
It’s precisely your brand of “appreciation” which inhibits people with similarly exceptional abilities from sharing their own gifts.
I can’t imagine why you’d begrudge someone of Tori’s vocal skill success pursuing a musical career. What do you stand to lose from it, anyway?
@@user-rl2jh3wn4tfine art comes from fine art. Grow up.
From someone who appreciates the great voice Karen Carpenter had as well as the music the Carpenters produced, would aesthetically appreciate hearing the amazing voice Tori has and if America is fortunate enough to get this ultra talented woman to agree to pay tribute to her music, it will be a win-win for Americans who remember this time period and for this young talented musician. There is no disrespect for Karen and the Carpenters
How wonderful that the violins and horns aren't simply copied upon each other, but are played individually and each new recording layered giving such a rich authentic sound.
Lovely example of honest musicianship. ❤
She is pretty close, but Karen is altogether untouchable.
Correct, the feelings Karen possessed & more importantly delivered is untouchable.
Agree she sounds too happy, not enough melancholy like Karen
That's the problem. She needs her own songs or we can only compare her to Karen.
When I hear her sing, I fall into the same emotions I had listening to KC perform in the 70s.
@@ralex3697 That made me laugh, because it's really accurate!
As a fan of Karen Carpenter for 40 years, Tori's cover is truly music to my ears. Wonderful production!
voice is great.. production is weak.... on the mix side of things.
@@morbidmanmusic Tells you what magic those people in the 70s were able to achieve. Still, this is truly stunning. Cannot imagine this level of musicianship today.
Agree. What a lovely voice!
@@morbidmanmusic I agree, especially the drums, then again it's hard to beat Hal Blaine who was the go to studio percussionist of the day. He played on hundreds of hits and is considered the quintessential studio drummer of the late 20th century.
@@darioinfini The magic is the analog production, digital recordings remove a bit of the human element and yes, the mix is weak, but those harmony's are killer!
It is now 2024 in Maryland. Back in 72, while I was in the Navy stationed in California, my ex-wife and I watched the Carpenters concert in LA. This Cover took me back to that time and concert. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.❤
Wow, Tori has a beautiful voice, the band and backing vocals were perfect as well. It's nice to hear natural music again ❤
Karen Carpenter was in a Class of Music that No One has matched. But it is so great to see people try keep Karen Carpenter's alive! She to was amazing😊
Anne Murray came close.
This singer has a nice voice, nowhere similar to Karen Carpenter, she is better off establishing her own style. Just like Steve Augeri and Arnel Pineda, they are talented, but they can only sing cover versions of Steve Perry's songs.
There is no way the new singer even comes close to Karen Carpenter. She is hitting the same notes but doesn't have the depth or richness of tone. The vibrato doesn't ring true as natural. She can sing, sure. But not like Karen Carpenter.
@@leadsin99er To me she is very similar to Karen
Karen Carpenter could put power and softness in her voice at the same time, that's the difference. But, how can we don't let a tear come from our eyes listening to this touching rendition? What sweet voice has Tori...
No real comparison.
Your huge smile when Tori starts singing tells us everything. You were like a Cheshire Cat listening to her! She’s remarkable and I can’t stop listening to her!
You can tell he appreciates a beautiful voice
Amazing. I have to admit, I'm a little freaked out to hear someone that sounds so similar to Karen yet not see Karen singing. Beautiful job by Tori. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, thanks so much for your in depth review of our cover! We do these purely for the enjoyment of the music... and KUDOS to YOU for recognizing all the behind-the-scenes efforts! I am not a fan of autotune, and having discovered Tori, am so grateful for her amazing voice. Where she has the characteristics of KC's voice, I think she has such a beautiful vocal quality that is indeed her own. Again, thank you for the wonderful review! - Jim
She does sound eerily like KC. But I would also love to hear her do original music!
I love her individual sound the most, to be very honest as she has her own unique sound as does everyone. I love what makes people stand out from anyone else. Very nice voice, nice job to you both! Does she (hopefully) have plans for non-covers or no?
Thank you for this beautiful cover. Tori has such a warm expressive voice...perfect for this song.
You both sound wonderful. 🎶
Jim, thank you for keeping it real! Great playing, singing, and mixing.
Wow, that was kind of eerie when she first started singing, because she sounded SO much like Karen Carpenter! As the song went on a little more, you could tell it wasn't her, but still, what an amazing rendition, and such maturity in her voice and delivery at a young age. Let's hope she stays true to her artistic integrity and kudos to Jim for his production.
Is that really "artistic integrity" to emulate another , original, artist perfectly?
@@reddragonready I'd like to hear something Tori sings that isn't a Carpenter's cover for comparison. I suspect she naturally sounds like Karen Carpenter.
@@reddragonready As a vocalist myself, I grew up emulating the artists songs that I loved and this how I learned to sing. Artistic integrity it isn't, but it's almost it's own artistic expression, to me.
I could definitely tell it wasn’t Karen Carpenter. Tori’s voice is lovely but Karen’s voice was like a parfait, so many layers to give it a full body. Tori’s voice is missing one/some of those layers. Maybe Tori could be Karen’s “little sister”. 😊
Those first few notes sounded exactly like Karen Carpenter. I would have sworn that it was KC singing the intro verse.
You said it right, "Finally a singer that can do more than just hit the notes". Anyone can sing as well as Richard Carpenter but few can hold a candle to Karen. You said it right again, when it's done right, It's MAGIC. That's what I've always have called it.
This was my wedding song in 1978. KC voice was that of an ANGEL. And so is Tori’s. Song birds!
I was born in 1962. Grew up with the Carpenters.
Outstanding cover all of you! There will never be another Karen Carpenter, but your cover honors her memory!
Tori is very talented!
She’s an amazing vocalist, but honestly, hearing her makes me long to hear Karen. Beyond talent and skill, it’s the character of Karen’s voice that we will forever be in love with.
Nicely done, Fil. You say it's real... then show us why it can't be anything but real. This authoritative review is getting referenced all over the place, and Tori Holub is going viral... as she so well deserves.
This little lady has a future in the music industry. This is music mastery, sends chills up ones spine and a tear to the eye its so perfect.
Her own originals would be better
Unfortunately, the music industry is not interested in great singers.
I'm watching this literally in tears. Karen was a big part of my growing up and that voice is so recognizable. God has sent us a gift.
I fully agree with you. I never believed anyone else could ever sing like Karen Carpenter again. She was such a a beautiful and talented young woman who had a tragically sad life.
This is beautiful.
I sobbed too. Hit me hard to hear her voice. I felt like “Karen is back” and I know it’s not possible but wow, Tori’s voice is sooo similar.
When I first came across her singing like KC. I was instantly hooked and impressed she is very good. I kept saying that those short ticktock videos aren’t long enough. I love this
True. The best voicealike of Karen Carpenter
She sounds just like her
That's about as close as you'll ever get to KC

No dummy!
Your superstition is irrelevant to the reality that we all live in!
She is great although her deep voice is not quite a low as Karens.
@@tomg5176 she is good but not even close to Karen imo
Tori Holub as you said yourself is the re birth of KC. Being a die hard Carpenters fan, she keeps the Carpenters live on with her angelic voice.
Tori even has Karen's adorable wisp-of-a-lisp as she projects certain letters. So many have waited so long for this beautiful moment. Tears of gratitude.
Yeah,I loved her slightly flawed pronunciation on certain words,it was so expressive.
Fil, your smile says it all!! ❤ Amazing and true voice. Finally!!! Great video.
Now that's a voice. Took me back to the 70's.
I would like to point out how much vocal utility Fil has, in order to illustrate these points. A less talented singer could still make these observations, but the ability to reproduce fair approximations of what the vocalist is actually doing, is something that really sets Fil's videos apart. He covers a wide range of singers and does a pretty good job of reproducing most of their sounds. Well done, sir.
Yes...and his guitar work is exceptional also.
Yeah you can tell he can sing pretty well, because his pitching and vibrato just off the cuff when demonstrating something is really good.
Agreed 👌
Yes, he's amazing! And it's not just his voice. It's his ear!! A lot of times he describes nuances that I (a non-musician) can't hear at all. But I'm glad to take his word for it.
And Fil does such incredible instrumental breakdowns of the songs.
Oh my gosh!-she sounds so much like her! Like 90%! Beautiful voice Tori!!!
It's rare to see a YT presenter that was having so much fun doing a technical "deep dive" analysis as I saw here. For my part, courtesy of the almighty algorithm I became aware of Tori Holub just slightly over 24 hours ago (one might say "Only Yesterday" 😉) and...Tori has hit the "uncanny valley" (in a positive sense rather than the more typical definition of the term) almost spot on. Her singing is so amazingly similar to Karen's, but just enough different to still be distinctively her own. Well done, liked & subscribed. 👍
I couldn't stop smiling as soon as she started singing.🥰
same here , almost burst into tears ,
(but I'm a though guy , Ha Ha .😭😭😭🥰.
Me too! Smiles and tears! It was a somewhat innocent time for me And how many generations Loved her! My grandma and Gramps were huge fans! I didn't know anyone who didn't at least like them!
Maybe everyone else knows this, but what strikes me as uncanny and rare is the ability Tori has to turn her vibrato on and off for expression and coloration. I seldom hear this in singers other than Karen Carpenter. To me it's the mark of a top-flight singer. It takes the performance from black and white to full glorious color. This girl can SING!
That is EXACTLY what I couldn't put my finger on!! I agree!
She truly does! I majored in music in college and she has amazing musical ability. Her voice is beautiful & when she does excellent videos on her in depth analysis of the Carpenters' music.
I remember playing this song on my "45"...repeatedly (I was 14 at the time). I was SO smitten with the sheer beauty of Karen Carpenter's voice. At age 68 I relived that joy listening to this phenomenal performance.
Yes, the richness of her alto register and the gorgeous wide-open vibrato is spectacularly-surprising to my ear-only KC and this gal can do that. Beautiful!
Very beautiful
I got goosebumps listening to Tori’s voice & this great production. There could never be another Karen Carpenter, but Tori’s voice is so close.
This had me in tears when I was 19 because KC sang about what I hoped from in my future life. Now it has me in tears at 71 because I was so very very lucky to meet a lady who gave me such a wonderful life.
Karen’s voice is better, richer and deeper. Karen still reigns! 🌹❤️
Agreed. Spot on.
That's what I was thinking is that Karen had a richness and depth that is unique to her and gives those extra goose bumps. Nonetheless a very very nice cover.
Tori does sound like Karen, BUT, I have an issue with that. I don't want a copycat. I want a cover that pays respect to the original(or most popular version).
If a gun was put to my head, I’d have to go with Karen’s voice because of her prominent clarity and top end on her mid and low range vocal - but Tori does a great job notwithstanding.
You’ll not get anyone else as close to Karen as this.
I agree. Karen’s voice conveys an intimacy that cannot be matched 😢
The first thing I thought when I first saw this is "please, don't let it be tuned and corrected." Thanks for this. It brings a tear to my eye every time and watching the joy in your face made me smile.
A few years ago, I came across another CZcams singer who also sounds a lot like Karen Carpenter, as well - Shane Ericks. Both Tori & Shane are very talented singers & I love how you analyze these amazing singers voices. Keep up the great work.
Just awesome. Brilliant Teri Holub, @GaryBadger and the rest of the team for taking me down memory lane. Hats off, you teared me up at the precious memories from nearly half a century ago. Very well done, indeed
Truly lovely. Not a reincarnation, it's a very beautiful rendition of the original. This song sounds so well, the rest of their music deserves a listen.
This cover made me cry...
Although Karen's legendary honeyed velvety timbre will never be matched, it was once in a century, I've heard many KC covers and tributes but Tori comes closest to Karen than anyone I've heard so far. It's an epic cover. Thanks for sharing!
Closest to Karen I’ve ever heard
Stumbled upon this and I'm glad I did. Your analysis was awesome and thank you for sharing this AMAZING voice!
This is crazy! She's SO Karen Carpenter! The whole production done very well!
Just got chills as soon as she started singing
I did too, and then some tears. Just beautiful!
Me three. WOW. 😮
Goosebumps!
A very nice, mellow rendition...made with her own interpretation. The original had a crystal quality and an energy that was unique to Karen Carpenter.
Tori sounds amazing...nothing beats raw and natural. She and her bandmates did this remake/cover splendidly. But, there is only one unique force of nature and magical energy that only Karen Carpenter had. Hats off to this video analysis and your insightful feedback for us Fil!
I love your commentary! I always learn something.
Wow - she really just has that beautiful smooth, expressive sound that Karen had. ❤
I agree with you ❤️
Astonishing
Slight differences but still very beautiful
Tori Holub has a truly wonderful voice. She did an amazing job with her rendition of Karen Carpenter's song like no other has been able to achieve. However, God had blessed Karen Carpenter with the most unique and magical voice. The wealth of range, tone, control, and quality was only the beginning of her gift.
What made Karen Carpenter so exceptional was the deep, deep emotions she communicated with, which we later learned was based on so much pain. Others may have written the lyrics, but only Karen Carpenter could deliver the songs with an everlasting impact that instantly captures your heartstrings and takes hold of your soul.
What a beautiful alto voice. Very pure, effortless, perfect for the Carpenters' music. Thank you for posting this.
Look at that, Karen. You just added another descriptive layer here teaching me that hers is an alto voice. Thanks!
How many people closed their eyes when they listened to her? I did, just wow. I almost cried.
Fil's smile when he likes it
Absolutely beautiful and AMAZING INCARNATE! It makes me just cry and cry. It's good to hear that "Karen" is back through Tory
This is one of the best reaction/reviews I have ever seen on CZcams! I learned so much via your software and explanation. I have been following Tori on TT for a couple of years now and I ALWAYS enjoy everything she posts, and she seems like the nicest person. I have commented on many of her videos and she is always gracious and genuine. I am so excited to see where her career takes her as well!
Haven't seen you this happy doing an analysis in a loooooooooooong time! 😄

That is SO joyful with outstanding singing. That's brightened my evening. Real voices, real beauty. Thanks, Fil, for another excellent video.
❤INBELIEVABLE😮
She sounds like a reincarnation of Karen Carpenter!! I grew up in the 60’s & 70’s so I remember what the Carpenters sounded like. Tori is just…. unbelievable 🎉
I have been following Tori for the last couple of years, back when she was just singing to prerecorded tracks into her headphone mic in her bedroom. She is an incredible vocalist and naturally talented. She will be singing live at an upcoming Carpenters Anniversary gathering in Downey CA at Richard & Karen's former Methodist Church during the celebration.
How brave! That's awesome, I hope she gets good monitors and support from the crowd.
Holy sh*t! I almost fell off of my chair during the first line.
I would most definitely buy whatever platform she comes out with!! So crazy smooth!
I have tears rolling down my cheeks. What a beautiful moment. I’ll be 65 in a week and i thought I would never hear true beauty again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I'm beyond ecstatic to see Tori Holub get the Fil analysis treatment. She's probably the only current singer who can reduce me to teary eyed goosebumps within less than a minute without the aid of autotune. A precious musical drop in our current ocean of noise, that's for sure. Tori is making "Kace" proud.
I admit that at first she sounded so much like Karen Carpenter that I thought it may be a lip-synch fake. As she sang on I did hear the differences but she is emulating Karen's tone and delivery almost perfectly. 🐦 They are making beautiful music by ear just as it has been done for millennia before computers were invented. 😻 No gremlins in this music.
I don't think she was consciously mimicking Karen. I'm thinking it really is just the way she sings naturally sounding like Karen. Wow, I've waited 40 years to hear that smooth voice again.
Gremlins is a good word for it.
@@willarth9186I think it's a bit of both. She is a major Carpenters/KC fan and so she probably can't help but want to emulate, but at the same time I also agree that it is her natural voice. How serendipitous the congruity with her talent and quite unique in the similarity!
@@springertubeI know I sometimes consciously try to sound just like certain singers so much so that I think myself a parrot.😂 Emulate is a better word than mimic in this case.
If you play this version and the original version at the same time and synch them up (it’s easy to do), they are virtually identical. Perhaps completely identical. Her main performance looks unedited which means word for word, note for note, beat for beat she nailed everything Karen Carpenter sang.
I don’t know how thats possible.
So nice to hear Maj7, Maj6, min7, & 6/9 chords over interesting melodies employing scales other than pentatonic & blues.
Love seeing that big grin. You know a vocal track is great when Fil just sits and smiles instead of interrupting to talk.
If my eyes were closed I might have said that's Karen Carpenter. I have very good voice recognition generally but would waiver on this. Wow this is amazing. I do think there's a slightly fuller deeper rounded out tonal quality in Karen Carpenter's voice.
You've got to be kidding me?
Agreed. Knowing it is not Karen Carpenter, I can detect very subtle differences. But if I were not paying close attention, I might mistake it for the original voice as well. This singer not only has a similar timbre and range, but has a similar sense of phrasing. Like Karen, Tori manages to be very precise in pitch and tone while never seeming mechanical.
Yep, agree with last sentence.
Exactly. Karen’s range went a little deeper, and the east coast “accent” Karen had could be distinguished. I grew up listening to Carpenters.
@@l.baughman1445 Me too! I just adored her voice!

Fil, the only thing I could add to all of this regarding this amazing young singer is that one of those magical things about Karen was that she sang with such joy and you can feel her happiness in her voice as she would phrase the lyrics, and Tori exemplifies that quality here as well. I definitely will check out their Channel and great analysis as usual!
What is lacking today hearing the one who is singing. With the use of multi-tracking and not having the instrumentation recording with the recording artist, the atmosphere-feeling of the song is lost . As you stated so plainly, there is an element of harmonizing here and it is so beautifully orchestrated. Years ago when the likings of Sinatra, Martin and others, they knew how to meld the orchestration and their voices. Nelson Riddle and Billy May brought out the best of both. This version of “We’ve Only Just Begun” is so good and very hard to distinguish from the original. She has a gift, a talent to sing and to also how to interpret the song! A breath of fresh air!!!
Tori is a huge talent in her own right. Karen was amazingly talented. Thank you Fil.
Her tone and vibrato are SPOT ON! 🔥 Just incredible.
One of the greatest compliments a singer can have is that they have very similar vocal tone & expression to Karen C. Honestly, it’s so freakishly similar, it’s making me consider that reincarnation really does happen. Absolutely gorgeous & beautiful, generous Karen would be the first to support her. Absolutely phenomenal job! Thanks WOP for drawing attention to this amazing, young artist.
Always wondered why no other singer has ever come forward since we lost Karen who could sing as flawlessly. So I'm thrilled to hear Tori and look forward to watching her career grow! Let's not forget the genius of Richard Carpenter in creating such beautiful music and harmony. Imagine if Karen had stayed on drums, we would have never known this magical duo!
Fil is over the moon! A velvet-voiced human sings without the distortion of a musical AI
Goosebumps! I never thought we'd hear an angelic voice like Karen Carpenter. Beautiful! Excellent breakdown.
SAME!!! I thought we'd never hear her beautiful voice again then I found Tori on Instagram and couldn't believe my ears. I'm sure Karen is smiling down from heaven.
Hallelujah!! a REAL voice 🙏🏼.....and a beautiful one.💜 All of this- every part of the performing & production_ is worthy of admiration & respect. ✅👏🏼Thank you for reviewing it xx
the production is great! and the musicians are to be commended for keeping so close to the original song. I was a fan of the Carpenters in the 70s. My heart goes out with this cover. Thank you all.
Stunning. She's effortlessly accurate, & even gets tiny details the same. It sounds like they've studied the production techniques the Carpenters used. A lovely breath of fresh air in a stale, auto-tuned world. tavi.
Her brother, Richard, would have been impressed, I think. I wonder if he’d be knocked over backwards by her wide-open vibrato that sets itself so comfortably and rolls so beautifully within that rumbling, rich KC (now Tori) timbre. …like caramel pouring onto a melting, soft-serve ice cream sundae.
A delight on the ears. So smooth, melodic and natural. What a relief from autotune.
I have been listening to Tori for several months. So happy she is getting the well deserved attention she deserves. She is incredible! Thank you!
I am amazed at such collective talent. I love the fact that the vocals are sitting up front and not buried in the mix.
That was amazing. Stone cold courage to take on a Karen Carpenter cover and phenomenal ability to do it successfully. Amazing!
I have seen a lot of performances claiming to be the reincarnation of Karen Carpenter's voice over the years, and I expected this to be the same. For once this girl's voice is astounding and captures the KC sound in a way I never thought I would ever hear. Fantastic!
This post proves why your channel is my all time fave!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks as always Fil.
Beautiful... and you respected the video enough to let it play through, thank you.
That was a pretty good cover. I won't say it was spot on, I can easily tell the difference between her vocals and those of Karen Carpenter. But again, it was very good. Her vocals were natural, and flowing, and no need to auto-tune.
Excellent video! What a treat to hear someone with a voice that pays such homage to Karen’s .
Wow. I have died and went to heaven!!!! What a beautiful voice. Great video WOP
I loved the Carpenter's. I was broken-hearted when Karen passed away. Tori's singing brought memories flooding in and tears to my eyes.
Gorgeous voice, just like Karen's and the harmonies were excellent.
I am a huge fan of Karen Carpenter so I didn't know what to expect. I do hear the differences of course but after listening to Tori sing I really enjoyed her version. Thanks Fil for this analysis 😊🎸🎵
This song is a staple in my vocal repertoire... I LOVE Karen Carpenter... this young woman sounds so much like her.. it's brilliant...people can actually see The Carpenter's Grammy's at the Carpenter Center in Long Beach , Ca.
Jim is the man . Lives down the road from me, done collabs with him and Gary Badger from Australia . They all did an amazing job. I'm blown away with the vocal sound she got out of that Baby Bottle. Jimmy plays just about every instrument. Except guitar he says but I don't believe him. I know he can play guitar. Karen is my favorite female voice. Tori is incredible with the tone she has. Flawless pitch. Check out Jims collabs on his page. There's another one with Tori I believe. He's done so many great ones. There's a lot of impressive stuff there. Check out I.G.Y he did from Donald Fagan . Jim sings lead on it . He does a great Fagen. He stepped up a little with his production on this one tho. Always getting better like it should be. Not just a great musician but great guy, proud to know him.
She sounds so much like Karen Carpenter. If I wasn’t paying attention may not have realized. Great review Fil!
Thank you for showcasing Tori Holub. I found her several months ago. She is just fabulous.
11:43 - It's such a pleasure to hear and watch the perfection of the artists on this video AND Fil's joyful analysis, deconstruction and commentary in real time. No performative qualities at all; you never see Fil ever exagerrating. - 12:39 - He's just connecting here as he always does with complete authenticity with descriptive perfection no matter what he is illustrating. We're so lucky to have this channel, this teacher, performer, writer, musician.
This may be the first instance that Fil has let the video play completely through before making any comments. Yep, my ears were hearing an untouched vocal performance.
Watching your pure enjoyment at listening to someone who isn't auto-pitch corrected brought me so much joy on your behalf! I'm also very impressed at how pure and beautiful this cover was as well.
Having grown up with Carpenters music in high school in the 70's, I must say my mind is blown and my heart soars. I found myself uttering a three letter word I used so much listening to Carpenters even to this day. WOW! This was simply awesome! Such a pleasure. Wishing them all much success. Music the way it's meant to be. Thanks, I needed this.
Great job Fil. As usual, a great analysis!
