One of the maddest requests I’ve gotten, keep it up people - the tunes are getting better 😱🔥🔥
React to beast in black crazy mad insaneczcams.com/video/PCEBfHyZ2YY/video.html
how do you make an odd signature groovy? i don't know, but they do
Love the content Drew, keep it up
Dream Theater - Finally Free. Crazy back story and drum solo finale.
Loved this reaction. It’s like hearing it for the first time for me. Check out Beyond This Life. Some awesome grooves in that song.
It's only natural to progress forward with This Dying Soul
Exactly. The song with IV and V steps of the Alcoholism saga.
And "The root of all evil", and "Repentance", and "The shattered fortress"...
Yes
Hells yes ^^
Let's start the chant *12 step suite, 12 step suite, 12 step suite*
Dream Theater: In The Name of God. AMAZING Instrumental AND Lyrics AND Short (14 Minutes)
BAHAHA I love how by our standards 14 minutes is average length
In the Name of God, agreed
Incredible song, especially the outro
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
Continue the 12 Steps Suite with THIS DYING SOUL!
Exactly!!! Continue with the entire suite
Yes. Continue with it.
Now I would suggest THE SHATTERED FORTRESS !!!!! even better than this one, and the closing song of the 12 step suite that started with the glass prision !! enjoy
"Metropolis Part 2" men, we all waiting for this.
honestly, Matropolis 2 may be some of DTs best work but its not really suited for reaction content. it should be listened to in one sitting with headphones and no distractions like making videos.
Drew SHOULD listen to Metropolis Pt 2 but he should do it on his own time in a comfortable space with a good pair of headphones.
What about metrópolis pt 1. That song deserves a reaction
@@JungleScene agreed its not reaction material its a 80 minute album made to feel like 1 piece (and my favourite album of all time) it needs to be listened and absorbed.
Plenty of people on CZcams have reacted to the whole thing, broken up into a few parts, and it’s totally worth it.
No
Recommend you check out the entire twelve-step suite since you already did The Glass Prison which is the longest track. Maybe you misunderstood, but the five songs that the suite consists of are all on different albums, not just on Six Degrees. They share in concept and have musical continuations and references to the previous tracks as the suite progresses.
1. The Glass Prison (2002 - 13:53)
2. This Dying Soul (2003 - 11:24)
3. The Root of All Evil (2005 - 8:08)
4. Repentance (2007 - 10:43)
5. The Shattered Fortress (2009 - 12:49)
Edit: Not sure how to avoid those auto timestamps. They obviously have nothing to do with this video :)
you could type...The Glass Prison (2002 - 13 min 53 sec)
....
If you do this you have to react to the live version of The Shattered Fortress!! It’s amazing
YES Now I would suggest THE SHATTERED FORTRESS !!!!! even better than this one, and the closing song of the 12 step suite that started with the glass prision !! enjoy
I completely agree !! lets do it together, all the comunity give LIKE and all of US support to Drew to do the 12 step suite !!
@@Zone_Ranger Or it's fine the way it is.
Please try This dying soul or Honor thy Father or In the Name of God
Yes
Train of Thought is my favorite DT album!
Honor thy father, yes!
THE SHATTERED FORTRESS !!!!! even better than this one, and the closing song of the 12 step suite that started with the glass prision !! enjoy
Train of Thought is by far my favourite.
by the way, the scratch vinyl sound on the start connects with the ending of the "Scenes from a memory: metropolis part 2" álbum
Yes it’s a perfect transition to the next album!
'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence' ".. is a type of concept album wherein the five songs which comprise the first disc explore different themes of lifetime struggle, such as alcoholism, loss of faith, self-isolation, sanctity of life and death. The sixth song-a 42-minute piece occupying the second disc, separated into eight tracks-explores the stories of six individuals suffering from various mental illnesses."
The rest of the 12 Step Suite (the songs chronicling the drummer's addiction and recovery) occur as one song each from the band's next 4 albums. It was always intended on being played in full live after the last track was released but the drummer quit Dream Theater before it could happen. He has performed the suite live though with members of Haken, dubbed 'Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress'.
i remember the first time i listened to this song, i was going to college, and i had to stop and park to listen a second time! insane song.
Yeah it's my favourite dream theater song. I requested it a few times glad he got to experience it. It's nutty. First time I heard it my mind was blown.
First time I heard this was in the car, thought I was getting pulled over! 😂
Going to reiterate: Their concept album "Scenes from a Memory" is the best collective work they've done. Think about it!
Dream theater is a wormhole, there's just so much interesting stuff, seeing someone getting to them for the first time is always like re-experiencing those beautiful moments
Love this song. The first DT song I've ever heard and still love it to this day 🤘
I still remember sitting in the car with my brother listening to it after we bought the record in the recordstore.
Half a year later we went to their concert and this made this song also the first song I've ever seen live by any band 🤘
A NIGHTMARE TO REMEMBER! One of their best! Its dark, tells a story and has one of the best riffs ever in it!
A classic o classics please THE DANCE OF ETERNITY -Dream Theater!
Dude. I saw them live at The Beacon Theater in NYC as a class trip with my music theory class. They played this whole album, had an intermission, and then played all of Metallica’s Master of Puppets album. Fuxking. Unreal.
Thanks for doing this one! Appreciate it.
You should do the song 6 degrees of inner Turbulence, also a short but sweet song like The Count of Tuscany. It's only around 42 minutes long.
This is unironically an excellent suggestion. Six Degrees, to me, is a much better song than Tuscany (which feels like such a weird, queasy and cheesy song to me, especially the "I'm the Count of Tuscany!!!!" part), whereas Six Degrees has some great movements and melodies, akin to a progmetal version of a classical composition.
Henkan You should check out the back story to count of Tuscany.
It's something that happened to petrucci in Italy after a show.
It's a great story and the song is worthy.
So yourself s favor and check it out.
Follow through with This Dying Soul next! It's the perfect follow up song and continues the 12-Step Suite as well.
This song is a part of a larger concept that starts out with this song called the Twelve Step Suite. The Twelve Step Suite includes "The Glass Prison", "This Dying Soul", "The Root of All Evil", "Repentance", and finally "The Shattered Fortress". All of the lyrics were written by then drummer Mike Portnoy detailing how he dealt with his alcoholism through the twelve step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. You should really consider going through them in order to completion. It is quite the musical journey and has quite a powerful message of overcoming addiction and perseverance. Plus "The Shattered Fortress" is one of my favourite songs ever.
Freaking amazing! Gods on their instruments!
I've been a Dream Theater fan for nearly 20 years and watching you react brings me back to the first time I got to hear them.... priceless man. Keep it up!
Dream Theater - Learning to live, quite the epic, I really recommend it!!! This one is one of the few ones written by the bassist :D
Yes please!!!!!
Their best song after Octivarium imo
Under a glass Moon live 1993 would be Amazing one of the best dream theater songs
certainly one of the best soli!
This came out in 2002, nu-metal was huge (Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit etc) and I think Dream Theater was just going with the times by inserting the scratching into the breakdown section. This is the only song where they do that in their whole catalog if I'm not mistaken, and I think it works pretty well. It was just a sample sound played on the keyboards, would've been mad though if Jordan Rudess had actually lugged some turntables on stage and went full DJ Lethal!
It actually connects with the vinyl scratches from Metropolis Pt 2 ending, nothing to do with nu-metal
Never knew that
Marcelo Henrique There’s no vinyl “scratching” at the end of Metropolis part 2, the ending of Metropolis 2 is just white noise from a record running on its inner groove, that connects to Glass Prison and is what you hear at the beginning of the song. What I was talking about, and what Drew mentions in the video, is at 10:19 in this video with the turntable “scratch” effect, which is very much influenced by rap metal/nu-metal of the time.
The other parts to the 12 step suite are in order after this one : This Dying Soul, The Root of all Evil, Repentance and finishing with The Shattered Fortress which u should watch the live version from breaking the 4th wall (I was at that show, fucking amazing)...the only thing better than listening to a killer Dream Theater track is watching them play it live
You lucky bastard. One of Petrucci's best solos in that one.
One of Rudess best solos too!
DT live is not so good on video, but when you get to experience them in person it's just so fucking incredible. I think my blood pressure shot up with excitement when they played the riff to Dark Eternal Night (which was what they opened with) in 2017. And I was 22yrs old lol.
Just wait for Drew's reaction to full Metropolis pt.2😄you're cool!))спасибо за видео!
If you liked this song, you'll love A Nightmare to Remember, ultra heavy and groovy riffs, great story lyrics and around the 15 min length
Caligulas Horse - Graves
Modern prog masterpiece
That new album is AMAZING
Aa much as I want to see him do Graves soon, I really think if he held off on it and did dream the dead and songs for no one first the payoff to Graves woild be unworldly.
@@paravarium precisely! I came here to suggest Graves because it's arguably the prog-rock epic of the decade, it's got everything...but you're right.
Really really hope he sees this!
I was waiting for this. Grettings from Chile. Love your channel
we need more livestreams Drew!!
Welcome to the family! DT is my fav band, I love that you are digging it!
This was a trip. Great and honest reaction and really appreciate the commentary afterwards. That was fun to experience the song with ya and we can all tell the authenticity in the reaction.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Super genuine. I was here sitting by myself with this stupid smile, laughing at the faces you were making in different parts of the song. Love watching people experiencing Dream Theater for the first time.
Dude it’s so cool to see you discover more and more of this band! Count of Tuscany next for sure!
LOVE what you are doing Drew. Keep it going!!
DT has been my fav band for 17 years, so watching you is like basically watchinf myself when I heard those songs for the first time. I can absolutely relate to every gesture, face or expression you make.
The Count of Tuacany, Dark Eternal Night and Breaking All Illusions should be on your list! You'll love all of them
Subscribed for the Dream Theater content! They have such a wide range of sound, the more you listen the more you'll see the different their progression
AWESOME SONG FROM THEM. One of the best for sure! So glad to see your reaction. Another great video! KEEP THE DREAM THEATER EXPERIENCE. IT WILL BE WORTH IT!
All great songs...thanks for sharing...checking in from Buffalo Ny..USA....
Thank you for the video man, you did an awesome job as always! I believe you should try out The Great Debate or Misunderstood from the same album too. They are amazing tracks.
Nice one m8! Let's keep going with the rest of the suite this dying soul, the root of all evil repentance and the shattered fortress being my personal favorite. Love the DT reactions
So glad you've done this one! My absolute fave DT song.
I needed this reaction!
:D
DT are the MASTERS! Try “This Dying Soul”! You’ll love it if you liked this. It’s the 2nd part. Not too long as well. 🤟🏻❤️
I think you should react to a live version next! The Shattered fortress is an amazing song with riffs, solos and drumming that will blow you away. Their performance live in Boston 2014 is astonishing.
Love this song sooo much. Back in 2004 or 5 I bought a NAD cd player amp etc. and took this cd to the store to try out different speaker set ups. The owner of the shop was a lovely old asian chap who I guess was not so familiar with epic metal, but his face when this song really kicked in was so funny. To say he was blown away is an understatement and he wanted it to use as a sample song. Mikes drumming at the intro floored him, I think I made a new DT fan that day!
Music is so universal its amazing
You are fucking good people man. Glad to see you doing well and enjoying the music
Hi Drew !
So nice to see you deep dive into DT, and there is so much more for you to enjoy !
Apart from the other recommendations that I see (a nightmare to remember, the count of tuscany, in the name of god, breaking all illusions ...), I would add that the live versions from Budokan, Boston, Luna Park, Score ... are WAY more enjoyable because you can actually see how those aliens can reproduce this in real life, and it's incredible :)
Cheers from Paris
I think your Dream Theater taste and mine overlap perfectly. This is one of my favorite songs from them.
The next step in the AA Suite is This Dying Soul and I’m willing to bet all of my DT cred that it will also blow you away.
If you don’t want to get trapped in the suite just yet:
Honor Thy Father
The Dark Eternal Night
Home
All bangers. Though with Home, I’d probably just recommend doing that whole album at once, since it’s a compelling, story driven concept album. (Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory)
I've found your channel just looking for Dream Theater reactions, and you sir have not disappointed! Love the band, and love watching you enjoy them (no creeper lol).
And yes, Count of Tuscany!! It's definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3 DT songs. I can't wait for you to enjoy it!
The minute or so transition into the final act of this song is up there as one of my favorite Dream Theater things. What a song, so powerful and heavy
I enjoy your reactions so much! So glad you did this one. In fact I like you to do ALL their songs, because they really are the best in their genre. But if you would like to make a sidestep, I really would recommend Haken with Veil. Cheers mate!
One my favourite bands, check out Falling back to Earth too. Amazing song.
nice reaction. this is the first Dream Theater song i heard when i was in high school. so nostalgic.
Such a brilliant band saw them at download last year amazing
What a great reaction! Thanks
Opeth - The Lotus Eater (Live at the Royal Albert Hall)
Brilliant reaction with this one. Insane heavy twists and turns, like a roller coaster of riffs. Ill have a go at recommending Trivium to you again. Dream Theater are an influence on them, but they're not prog as such. " What the dead men Say "is a superb track with heavy , but seriously catchy grooves, a massive verse and chorus to sing to,and phenomenal guitar solos. Some Gojira sliding in the main riff too! Congrats again on yer channels success mate.
Yeah, I remember my first reaction to this song when I first heard it, this was my first song I ever heard from Dream Theater, instantly fell in love with this band!
Amazing vid as always. A Nightmare To Remember next!! Or This Dying Soul
Nicely done! Great track and reaction! I’ll let your other subscribers recommend the next DT song but when you do venture to something else check out pain of salvation - a trace of blood. Or really anything from them. Keep it up!
The joy as you discover this album that I’ve loved since release is awesome.
yeap this song is mental mate!!! we definitely want more Dream Theater!
Glad you like it. You're in the DT club now. Welcome!
The next steps are important. At some stage soon you need to do the entire album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. (it's one long story ; a musical masterpiece)
Only then will you have graduated.
Keep up the good work!!
YES DREW THIS SONG SLAPS. Try this dying soul next as well as The ministry of lost souls
Good one mate!
Between the buried and me extremophile elite!!
After seeing how you've liked these past few tracks, I'd recommend some of the Iron Maiden epics. I know they aren't a prog-metal band, but they do have some prog elements here and there.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner would be a good place to start, based on your reactions here.
or Empire of Thre Clouds
I had a chance to see DT live 3 times. And watching that magic happening right in front of you is something I can't put in words. So I think you should watch some of their live concerts. I will go with. Dream Theater - Sacrificed Sons (Live - Score DVD)
Seen them live several times as well. Once for their “The Astonishing” tour, and just OMG. Amazing experiences....truly.
How I would to be able to hear this song for the first time again and remember how much it blew me away!
Yes! This is my fav dream theater song
Caligula's Horse my dude
Yess
Need to listen to Graves or Dream the Dead
Dream The Dead, yeah!
I just got into them recently! Was overjoyed that right as I became interested they put out an album
I was pushing for Dream the Dead here before it was cool 🤣 jk guys it's gonna be so sick when it goes down 🤘
But seriously why do you guys suggest Graves before Dream The Dead? If you build up to Graves then you get a much better payoff imo.. you really think he's only gonna stop at Dream the Dead?! 🤣 it's a concept too, making it even more interesting to save it for now.
Have to do the rest of the 12 Step Suite now lol there are 5 all together, next is This Dying Soul.
One of their best songs. Personally, "Train of Thought" is their best album. This one is a close 2nd. Definitely pick anything of TOT - "As I Am", "In the Name of God", "Stream of Consciousness" - almost can't lose.
No
Can't have Dream Theater without Images and Words
Yeah. I recommend take the time or learning to live. Take the time is a bit shorter than some of the other DT songs you've reacted to
Also Awake.
Would be cool to see you finish the rest of the 12 Steps Suite.
Honor thy Father, please man. Sickest breakdown. Love your videos btw
I love that you're discovering Dream Theater like this. If you want another great song by them, you should try out Stream of Consciousness. It's a banger of an instrumental song, one of my all time favourites by them
Well, many others and I recommended this one on your Octavarium video expecting you to enjoy it, so I'm glad that turned out well, lmao. And now, as many others are recommending you to check out This Dying Soul (and the rest of the 12-step suite), I'll join in on that. It's on their Train of Thought album, which imo is their heaviest one as far as riffs and production goes, so since this song already blew you away, you'll have to pick yourself up after listening to that one.
I subscribed as you asked me to, so you better react to the whole 12 step suite now ;p
I was on the cruise to the edge in 2017. Portnoy put together a band to play the entire 12-step music suite. The crowd was exhausted by the end of the suite.
Great reaction. You shold react to the entire suite. It's "the glass prisson", "this dying soul", "the root of all evil", "repentance" and "the shattered fortress". Sick music & lyrics.
It’s because prog is like enlightenment and being able to turn someone new to it is one of the greatest thing about loving prog. Welcome to the next level. :). We LOVE you!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song is a riff gold-mine, it's fucking ridiculous. Glad to see your enjoying DT, Drew, love it.
Been following you with the DT reactions. We DT fans can see the sprout coming out. You've been sucked in. Nothing will ever be the same. Now, you have to see them live to complete your training. ;)
I listen Dream Theater for almost 20 years, and you really love the metal part of it, i recomend you A Nightmare To Remember, and if you want to come back to old Dream Theater, i recomend you Metrópolis. Great reaction!
You have to do the whole 12 step suite!!!
Metropolis - Part 1: "The Miracle and the Sleeper", probably their best song after Octavarium and A Change of Seasons.
This Dying Soul is the next in the suite. This is the first song in a 5 song set. I believe there is a wikipedia page for The 12 Step Suite. It tells you the sequence of the songs and the themes that connect them.
Next: Dream Theater-Lines in the sand
What a track! It has Doug Pinnick on it too. Unpopular opinion but Falling Into Infinity is possibly my favourite DT album.
Masterpiece!!!!!
I was about to say -while browsing through the comments- how come no one has mentioned Lines in the Sand!! Please!!
@@fuzzydunlop1988 the demos for that album is what the band really wanted and could've been one of their best albums. But good thing because we wouldn't have had SFAM if it got released lol
Glad you are checking out some of their other albums besides Octavarium :p Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is a fantastic masterpiece, but I'd recommend checking out the Images and Words album and the Awake album.
I would love to see a Honor Thy Father reaction
Dude you should try Ayreon - The human equation, "Day two - Isolation" really good song with many singers including James Labrie (dream theater).
I enjoyed every second of your reaction and couldn’t stop smiling :-D It’s fun and interesting to see how you were blown away about the same awesome parts as I was hearing the song for the very first time :-D If you’d like to have a listen to DT’s craziest song (imo), check out “The Dance of Eternity” :-)
Keep on the good work mate and greetings from Luxembourg!
He is not ready for the eternal dance yet
It's always great to see your reactions to DT, I had the same feeling when I first heard these songs. Check out Beyond This Life Live from Budokan, total game changer for me! Love you brother!
Awesome awesome review. Keep it going, This Dying Soul is next. DO IT
And the best thing is after you've heard all the Dream Theater requests you have Liquid Tension Experiment to experience. You'll find out...
Agreed
John petruccis album is amazing as well tbvh
An amazing finale to your DT reactions would be the entirety of the Scenes From a Memory album, it’s a story driven concept album that is arguably the best dream theater album ever made. It needs a listen in one sitting on this channel
Cheers from Italy! Loving those vids on DT Drew!
First of wall i wish to say it's so unique and amazing to see someone listen to a DT epic suite tracks for the first time, especially if they are getting the grasp of how their music work, like you do in this one. It's really entertaining, something i found out I enjoy a lot, so thanks again for this content!
If'd i have to suggest the next epic big track, my choice would be Breaking All Illusion, which is probably the best post-Portnoy track. It really takes you to somewhere else, and also is a rarity since it's by the group's bassist John Myung. It has something different inside it for sure.
I would also suggest some shorter tracks with different tastes, like the instrumental masterpiece Hell's Kitchen, the incredibly sad ballad Disappear (makes my eyes leak everytime), the powerful old style The Mirror, the hypnotic Repentance.
The Count of Tuscany is not one of their best but has some amazing moments, but that's true for almost any DT big song, like The Enemy Inside, In the Presence of Enemies, The Ministry of Lost Souls and many others. If you want to melt to your bones listen to The Spirit Carries on Live.
Thank you again!
Do the whole album, man. This one is priceless!
