At long last for everyone who has been asking for another monthly test video of my 4004, your wait is over. Today, I was able to get out and conduct a test of my 4004 with St. Charles County. This unit is privately owned and operated by me. I'll be up front, please do not ask for the location as it will not be given to you since it is on private property.
A little history for those of you who might not know the story behind this unit. This was installed in St. Charles, Missouri off of Muegge Rd. at the intersection of Treetop Dr. It was installed in 1994 and served part of the city of St. Charles until November 2016. It was taken out of service as the city was wanting to update their older sirens. It was replaced with an American Signal T-121 and the Whelen was put up for auction. A friend of mine purchased it in January 2017 and had it installed at his home. In April 2017, I was able to purchase it from him and have it installed back in St. Charles County in May 2017 at my family's property. When I purchased it, it had been equipped with an ESC-2020 controller and ran on 450 Hz. I was able to purchase an ESC-864 controller and made it 465 Hz. In July 2019, everything was taken out of the siren and completely re-wired and upgraded with radio activation by Table Rock Alerting Systems. In March 2020, we re-installed the cabinet with my new controller, new wiring, radio activation, and new batteries. It has been running like a champ ever since!
Back to today's test. I'm so glad I was able to conduct a test today. I had a friend standing by and was informed by him that my Whelen was heard 4 miles away amonst all of the county sirens around him! I'm very impressed by that! It certainly doesn't disappoint. Enjoy!
