Prime Nadal would finish this in two sets. Comebacks don’t make you great, efficiency does.

These young guys get nervous and miss an easy shot at the end.
Its not that much insane if it were alacarz or nole because they know how to chase it although the ball bounce height is more than 1 & half of net high which is not so great drop shot
@@mohi3846 Prime Nadal would finish this in 2 sets...but on Madrid clay, prime Nadal would still struggle as history has proven. He's nothing close to unbeatable in Madrid.

What we didn't expect is Rafa to win. He's not in shape yet and having won his first two matches here is just too good! He will try tomorrow, of course, but it is obvious that whoever plays him (Alcaraz, 18, or Norrie, 26) will have more chances than the almost 36 year god of tennis.
As for those who ask whether he's injured or ill or what happened to him, he finished his matched lame, he couldn't walk properly and some guy asked him at the press conference. He just answered: "I usually finish like this and I am usually lame in my everyday life. If you saw me everyday you would see it. The injury in my foot is incurable. "

The guy has literally come back from the dead after like 18 months without winning a single match, won Marrakech and now is fighting for a Masters 1000 quarter final on clay with Rafa, tiebreak on the third. I dare to say he can sleep fucking well ;)

Not only has Rafa made such an amazing display of mettle will, resolve and temper but he has remained humble and acknowledges his own weakness due to the lack of competition. In the press conference he even noted if Alcaraz reaches the quarter finals, he's clearly in disadvantage. For a player of his class that is extraordinary.
Goffin tried really hard but Rafa is a legend.

truth - many of the other guys epics are all againts Rafa.
this match was only epic because he wasn't playing well until the end, if he was playing well the whole game its 6-4 6-4 go home.
On the other side you can find many times rafa should have lost in straight set ending up winner…. This year AO anyone? This 1,5 hours more will cost him the match tomorrow though. But winning today means another match this week and coming to Rome already more tested

This guy is unreal, he never gives up, always makes his opponents play a couple of extra points because of this incredible defense. All in all, he doesn't know to lose. Also, really happy Goffin play so well, would have loved if he won!

The amount of competitiveness Rafa have shown in his career is unmatched. Nothing stops him form making comebacks. He just don't give up. He is been in this situations more than anyone and he is the only one whos able to pull make it through. My god he is absolutely incredible player.

How could he pull through and holding on tough like that? That's what distinguishes Rafa from other great players and what makes him so special. His "never-say-die" attitude always leaves us in awe. While many others would throw in the towel, Rafa would fight until his last sweat! He's definitely a legend. Go Rafa!

A much needed match for Nadal to get back to his physical form. Very tough match against a tough opponent. Clearly Nadal looked a little rusty on several points with mishits and short forehands. He’ll have a very touch match tmrw against Alcaraz (or Norrie), but these are the matches he needs to prepare for the French Open. Given his current form I want to say he’s not going to win Madrid Open but who in their minds could count out Nadal especially on clay!!

The difference between nadal right now in RG22 to the version of him here is just night and day. His forehands looked timid here at times and he wasn't doing damage. Finally he is back in rhythm and he is back at the level we are accustomed to seeing from him. What a difference three weeks make.
