That camera angle from the bonnet looking through the windscreen is so movie-like, it's probably just because there wasn't enough space inside the cabin but I'll give you the credit for it anyway 😂

I may be Canadian, but frankly theres something about my 124 that makes me want to just throw it around some backroads in Italy and Austria, in a pair of brown leather driving gloves, and some wire framed sunglasses. It's just a pure wonderful experience.

It convinced me to buy the car within a week of watching it, and now re-watching it again 18 months later, I marvel at how accurately the car is presented. All the important aspects are presented and the lesser important topics (eg cup holders ) are omitted. It captures the thrilling and engaging spirit of driving the car. Good job!

Engine profile is different; 124 has considerably more torque than the MX-5, so more grunt. Some people prefer their cars to rev; I don't so it wins over the MX-5 for me (FWIW I had an Alfa with this engine and it's splendid).
Kudos to the cameraman sitting on the bonnet the whole time without falling off. Great stability.
Let's not forget the 124 spider existed way before the mx5

I bought one here in Canada due to Jason Cammisa's review and yours, and after about six months' drive with iti have to say you really got it right. Not sure if i should change back to a 986 Boxster, the Abarth is so good. @SidNorth

It’s not the same gear box as the new mx5. The new mx5 has issues when used hard like on track. The Arbarth uses the older gear box which according to experts is bullet proof. It’s also better able to handle the extra power and turbo.

@@joshshanks7966 Thats bullshit. The Fiat MultiAir engine has proven its reliability in various models. But I am with the others: A NA engine is most of the time better. And the Mazda 2.0 is definitly better then the 1.4 Turbo MultiAir because it is way more responsive. The Miata is a legend of a car, but I dont like the looks of it. And if I spend "big money" I want something that looks good, too. So I bought an Abarth Spider one year ago and I dont regret it. It did cost me 26,000 EUR including tax, so it was a really good price for the value of a new car.
I've owned one for a little over a year. If you are going to buy one get an Abarth. It's not an MX-5. It's an Italian roadster designed by Fiat and built on the MX-5 platform. I give Fiat a lot of credit for teaming with Mazda on this car. It's beautiful, sexy and it performs. Personally, I wouldn't make comments until you drive one. On second thought, don't drive one unless you are ready to buy one. Once you get a taste you will want one, bad.
Agree 100% about everything, including the last part.
This (and the MX5 too to be honest, it's still an incredibly good car) becomes and addiction the moment you start it for the first time to try it, so be prepared to buy it lol.
Top vid and top driving skills too. I've never seen anyone slide it (or the Mazda) in corners like that before!

Good review. It’s more pleasant to view a video when the reviewer is enthusiastic about the product rather than droning on in a robotic monotone.
I’m a huge fan of what I call “The Classic English Motoring Tradition.” There is nothing more appealing in life than scampering about on a deserted country road with a beautiful woman in the passenger seat and a pique nique luncheon and Champagne in a basket in the trunk (“boot?”).
But it requires a proper motor car. This one will do just fine. I’m buying one. Now I just need to find the right lady. Any adventurous volunteers?
haha, sorry but a woman will only make it less fun, your either going to fast or too slow or the car will be too noisy or bumpy. use the car to drive to your girl

Sideways Sid mx5 and swap a k20 fully built for a big turbo
124. Had the old mx-5 but don't like the styling on the new one.
Abarth 124 is overpriced and i wouldn't be confident in a Fiat made engine... Just go on 124spider.org and have a look at the tons of problems they've got ! They even have problems with the multiair oil system drained by gravity if you don't use the car for a few months... Then you can't even fucking start you car.
But to be fair, i really like the look of the Fiat 124 ! It's closer to the MX5 NC and i prefer it over the ND look. The superior torque is appealing but it got a fair amount of turbo lag and the fuel economy is shitty (Yeah, i care about it since it would be a daily !)
But seriously... i'll go all the way for the N/A MX5 !
