Up for sale is a ONE-OWNER 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Y82 Special Edition (the same kind of car used in the movies minus the CB radio - however, this is NOT one of the actual movie cars) This car has great documentation and original dealer papers included with the sale. Beautiful car, but has the 6.6 liter verses the preferred t/a 6.6 motor....on the hood scoop.
79 was the last year for the t/a 6.6 which was only available in the four speed. 90% of 79 Trans Ams came with the olds 403 automatic.

The base L78 Pontiac 400 automatic had the 6.6 LITRE decal while the W72 Pontiac 400 4sp had the T/A 6.6 & you are correct about the 400s being carried over until 1979

The Trans ams used in somkey and the Bandit were 1976 cars with the 1977 front end put on them . They were all the 180hp L78 Pontiac 400. The L78 with the W72 package didnt come out til 1977 with 200hp in 1977 and 220hp in 1978 and 1979. The WS6 package also came out later and in 1979 had 4 wheel disc brakes. The 403 Olds was 185hp.

@@tomcherry7029 That is correct. Re: the 79 TA with the t/ a 6.6, 400 4spd, that the actual hp was closer to 260, they saw Pontiac under rated the hp that you.
I had one of the 79 TA's with the 185hp 403 automatic, it had enough power to break the tires from a dead idle, but was obviously no match for the Pontiac 400 with the 4spd in 1979...

Lucky me. I have a 78 with factory hurst tops. A little more rare 78.

@desli snortum same here. I bought my car 9 years ago. And it’s now under restoration. However not an SE. it is a factory Hurst 78. Which confused a lot of people trying to talk me into putting a fisher top on it. I was like. No way. These aren’t dealership cut tops. Lol.

I heard one factory made Hurst tops while the other factory made Fisher tops.
