ECU ChipPower GS2 Installation & Test Honda Civic MK8 VTEC 1.8L

  • Decided to try a plug and play ECU ChipPower, made by GS2 which I bought from Amazon for here: amzn.to/3SsvYUf
    The unit came with harness which you simply connect to the existing car ECU sensor plug to allow connection to the module, installation took only 10 mins.
    The module has an adjustment screw that the instructions advise to turn 6 times, then drive and test, if no noticeable gains, then turn another 6 times.
    Improvements I noticed was a the lower end, it removed the flat spots and pick up was better, with smoother gears changes as the revs did not drop as rapid.
    All in all a good buy for the price, especially as they offer a 30 day money back guarantee! / @grooveon I really hope my content helped you, 'Super Thanks' is available by clicking the button under the video thanks so much ! ❤️
    Alternatively, you can just buy me a ''thankyou'' coffee!: ko-fi.com/grooveon

    I installed one of these GS2 boxes in my Peugeot RCZ 1.6 Petrol and, after 200 miles and with no screwdriver adjustments, I am very favourably impressed. The car may, possibly, be a bit quicker through the gears, but it is definitely much smoother (especially up to 2500 rpm) and fuel economy appears to be about 5mpg better on a motorway run at 60mph.
    You are not going to shake the earth for £81, but I would certainly recommend this unit as a simple, cost effective and refreshingly impressive upgrade on a mid-range car

    Hi. Enjoyed the video . I never knew how simple or how easy it was to fit and increase the performance of your car. It was very informative and I loved how pleased you were when you over took the Austin Martin on the motorway with a cheeky little laugh as you did it. That Made me laugh to just by your response. Lol 😄 i didnt have any idea that cars could have improved performance simply with a plug and play device such as this. Now that i've seen your video I'm looking to purchase the same device for my peugeot 208 1.6 petrol car. ⛽️ decent price to. And Great video to. 📹 thumbs up from me.

      Hi there, put it this way, the mpg hasn't gone down and you get more power so it's win win. I wouldn't say its massive economic gains but it's still worth it. I have used more expensive brands like race chip but on other cars, they have three options in performance

      Not at all. Cars are manufactured to accomodate all levels of driver good and bad, as well as all climates. They go by a middle ground, so these devices give you the little boost you've been looking for. I would always recommend altering the ECU to give you the performance and better economy.

    Hi, I wanted to buy this chip power GS2 for my honda civic 2012 vtec 1.4 engine, do you think it is worth it for the 1.4 engine model? As I find it a bit slow sometiemes. Also, do you think it can harm the engine for long term? Im not crazy for speed but i just wanted a little extra power, not necessarily for fuel economy. Thank you.

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  Před rokem +1

      Hi there, 2 good questions. In regards to the performance increase I would say its around 10% so hopefully will be the same for your 1.4. I have different cars that I have had properly mapped via the ECU and I have no concerns on damage to the engine, because you need to remember that cars are made to be used in lots of different countries with different climates and with different criving styles. Therefore manufacturers will use a 'middle' ground on the ECU. So in other words, get the most out out of your car! the cost of the GS2 is a lot less than a full ECU map so why not give it a go!

      Thanks for the kind words. The MPG I get is about the same, I actually thought for a 1.8 Vtec its not bad ! It all depends on the type of driving, i.e. urban, highway etc. I know when I drive from Scotland to London I can get mid 40's mpg.
      As for the device making a large saving in fuel, I would say its minimal. If you want to see better mpg, you could look into a proper ECU map tune, that will be your best bet

    Positives: may feel better throttle response as its like driving on a cold day=engine breathes better
    Negatives: 'cheap' chip boxes simply put the airflow sensors into choke mode creating a permanent rich mixture, not good for the engine long term, less mpg & may mess Mot emissions, wouldn't want my car in cold start mode permanently but hey ho

    • @arturaspf2566
      @arturaspf2566 Před rokem +1

      Actually yes and no. For naturally aspirated engine yes, because engine cant get air from somewhere and compensate for rich mixture elimination, so these chipbox just tricks MAF sensor into thinking, that he gets more air and then ecu adds more for fuel but cant add more air. But suprisingly for turbocharged/supercharged engines these chips could work. As I unerstand from my knowledge, best if those chips connects to MAP sensor. They create opposite effect - it weaken signals from MAP sensor and sending lower boost values into ECU, and then ECU think that this is as boost leak and send signals to the turbo vestgate/supercharger bypass valve to allow more air for compensation. So at moment you run very lean due more Air, but overtime O2 sensor and MAF sensors will comepsate and adds more fuel. But yeah, if car have only MAP sensor its bad and o2 sensor isnt enough to correct A/F ratios well without MAF. Also, if MAF sensor or O2 senor go faulty with these chips, then you increase MPG, decrease HP and decrease engine life very soon.

    Chances are theres very little improvement apart from throttle response. I have a tpw Merlin tuned ECU on my 1.8 civic and it gives you downshift blip, launch control, overrun crackle(pop & bang) raised rev limiter by around 200rpm & 1-1 throttle response. With that and a k&n cai it is around 150bhp now . The Merlin remap cost me 300 quid soo it wasn't cheap and new they are 500 . But next thing to do is cat back (+4-7hp) and lower it a bit (won't handle like a boat anymore) Apart from that not going to make it much better without doing a fast road cam (+10hp) or turbo(+100-120hp without doing much internally) but yer the i-vtec actually is only on between 0-3500rpm or not under load... it being on means it's actually in eco mode (3 cylinders/ opposite to proper vtec) I found this out after buying one so I was a bit gutted. My old st170 focus MK1 felt alot quicker cos it had vct (variable cam timing) and although the imrc units were not the best design it did kick in nicely around 5k. Makes you just want to rev the nuts off it mate.. haha
