Actually, The Margherita Pizza made with tomatoes-basil-mozzarella existed way before 1889.
When Queen Margherita came to Naples, Raffaele Esposito just served her three different kind of pizzas, among which there was also the tomatoes-basil-mozzarella one.
Queen Margherita liked it a lot, and noticed the resemblance with the italian flag. And that's how that kind of pizza was named "Margherita". :)

Pizza as we know it today is an Italian invention, but the word pizza is Greek from pita, because if you think of it pizza is basically and was initially flat bread. Turks also have a variation of the word called pide. Naples where it originated from is also Greek for New City. I just don't know whether flat bread is a Greek invention, or we took it from Egyptians or Persians🤗❤️🇬🇷🇮🇹

@DragonBurn 3 Not quite correct. It has same origin as Pita (pita gyros) Piada (Italian Piadina Romagnola), or even piatto (it has many meanings: dish, food dish, or flat surface)... But in italy we have a tradition of flatbreads with other names Focaccia for example, and Sicilian Sfincione (that are the closest flatbreads similar to Pizza), and Florence Schiacciata, that is a Flatbread just used as... Bread!
Incidentally we have also pizza pie quiches (pizza con le scarole), because in Italian language there is not a name for a quiche so we adapted the name Pizza for a different dish, and Farinata (that is a focaccia made with chickpeas instead than wheat flour), a relict of prehistoric ages when human beings made flour by mincing any kind of seeds... Etcetera...
