I had the privilege of seeing Charlie Aitken play his first game for Villa and his last he was an outstanding player and is more than deserving of this honour 😊
Charlie Aitken was a member of the team that made me into a Villa supporter (mid 70s.) What a lot of people forget is that he was dropped by Ron Saunders part of the way through what turned out to be his last season and never played for us again. So the Holte end didn't get the chance to give him a send-off as he deserved.
We had some amazing players in the mid 70s (especially attacking players) so hopefully they will get some love here.
As someone who has watched Villa since 1971 I offer - Brian Little, Andy Gray, Ray Graydon, Bruce Rioch, Gordon Cowans, Dennis Mortimer, Gary Shaw Peter Withe, Tony Daley, Tony Morley, Mark Bosnich, Dwight Yorke, Dean Saunders, Ashley Young, Gareth Barry, Paul McGrath, Paul Merson. David Platt so many!
Several other players from the 70's & 80's; Andy Gray, Brian Little, Alan 'Psycho' Evans, Brian Little, Tony Morley
Great listen lads, as I’m 69 my choice is way bigger but my first is Sir Brian who broke into the team as a teenager in the old third division and played through two promotions and won two league cups as a player scoring in one then went on to manage a win in ‘96 with a great team he had built. Sid has to be my other choice (I’ll leave God for someone else). Sid was simply the best midfielder I have personally seen play for us and was an integral part of the greatest time in our history culminating in ‘82 .
Saw Charlie Aitken play - great shout -
Super Sid Cowans…my deepest sympathies and thoughts are with him and his family.
Charlie Aitken, Dennis Mortimer, Gordon Cowans
Are my first 3 and I've seen them all play for the villa
Charlie Aitken: Don't forget back then only one sub...so he will have played the whole game most times. I was only a kid but I saw his last appearance.
I'd put Brian Little in the Living Room of Heroes.
I saw Charlie Aitken play in around ‘74, against Torquay United.
Why only players? People like Mick Dale deserve a gig. And Charlie Aiken was a true legend.
Great content lads... I saw Charlie Aitken play and he was Mr Reliable always an 7 or 8 out of 10. Obviously I could mention many more but I will watch with interest to see who gets picked. Keep up the great work lads. UTV
I saw him. He was reliable. Great player.
Archie Hunter - Harry Hampton - John Devey - disappointing when these players and other s who made villa great are ignored in any of these converstions
Plus my late father's all time favourite Villa player Pongo Waring must get a shout
@@barriepountney3598 indeed he must not be ignored
Dan did mention at least twice during this video that there will be more players to choose from for the Hall of Fame so I wouldn't get so angry just yet when this is only the first edition of this brand new feature for the podcast!
was not being angry was making an observation smiles@@joshuajones1793
The whole squad 1980/1982
Somebody of my generation has some obvious candidates, Dennis Mortimer, Peter Withe, Andy Gray, Little, Cowans, Spink, McGrath, and I'd absolutely have Yorke in there! Many others too of course.
Sid!
I would like some non playing staff. Managers, McGregor of course Jim Walker
Good morning
Little, Sid, Stan, Bosnich, Atkinson, Dion, Gray, Mortimer, I could keep going.....
Yorke, Emi Martinez, Tony Daley, Merson, Staunton, Saunders, David Platt & Andy Townsend in there for me guys
You keep saying you can't speak about players of the past!
My first nominee I saw on 4 September 1948 ie Johnny Dixon, then Peter McParland, Danny Blanchflower, Tony Hateley, Gerry Hitchens and the best match ever watched the League Cup Semi v Man U in 1970 and Andy Lochhead.
Those were the days.
Oil Rig
there were 42 games them days
I felt Mellberg had a bigger impact than Laursen at CB during that era. Interesting choice but by no means not deserving.
Get Mellberg in on ep 2 😜
Charlie Aitken 😎 I was privileged to see him at Villa Park and play against him and be invited to play for his team Talbot Tankards, he congratulated me for a save! I made against him . UTV 🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐
Having Jack in as the first 4 is poor tbh. Prime jack Vs prime Young isn't close. I would have done the best players who deserve the praise for multiple years playing at the club at the top level Like Mellberg. You can't have a player referred to as god and not have him in on the first video, should have waited for Matt or called Neil.
It's a great idea but we have to respect the players that came before your time, so it would make sense to only do these videos with Matt as he can talk about older players.
You can say it's not an order but it will become a order as these are now the first 4 and will be seen as 1234.
Fear not the format will be scrapped anyway
@@ClaretBluePod hopefully that's a joke 🤣
It is not 😂
If you don't include Sid I'll stop watching the podcast!
Do you really think we’ll leave him out?
@@ClaretBluePod 'course not! 😉
