We almost signed Les Ferdinand and Denis Berkamp in 1995. I remember when I was 12 as a kid in the 90s.

Gazza, Bergkamp, Lee Sharpe, Robbie Keane, Muzzy Izzet, Kenwyne Jones.(most were mid 90s, Jones i recall being linked with and Rodalegga under O`Neill)- and Freddie Kanoute for a while in the summer of 2004
In the mid 90s Jimmy 5 bellies was in tge National press almost daily. It was Paul's best mate who was put on tge pay roll to stop Gazza getting bored.I beleive they've drifted apart these days.
I well remember Robbie Keane was regarded as a shoo-in for Villa when he was at Wolves. As usual Deadly Doug refused the fee so Keane ended up at Spurs. The rest is history.
They are unrelated, but the Radamel Falcao and Wes Hoolahan runours have always stuck in my mind
There's a photo of Juninho somewhere coming out of the Doug Ellis stand getting into his car.
Loftus-Cheek was another. Wes Hoolihan was the funny one.

Les Ferdinand spoke recently to Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher about how he came down to Villa Park to meet Doug Ellis. More than a rumour, this one was close. He went to Newcastle instead
Roberto Carlos was brought in by Doug Elis RIP. After he’d impressed in the confederations cup. Apparently Brian little came back from holiday in the summer and was like who’s this! Doug explained and Brian refused him saying he wanted a proven PL LB in Alan Wright. The rest is history
