This should never be enforced, but should be born from within each individual so that individual karma is never compromised.

Coming to your last point, the famous saying of Maula Ali (companion of Hazrat Muahammad pbuh) that a nation can survive without religion but cannot with out justice.
So religion has nothing to do with prosperity of country, only rule of law can give assurance, the problem muslin countries is they are mostly rules by corrupt elites just like Pakistan is ruled by establishment which are not willing to follow constitution and not giving individual right to vote.
Even Pakistan would be athiest country with this political system could not survive.
I give you an example, north Korea an athiest country ruled by one leader. No rule of law no individual freedom, South Sudan a Cristian country but have corrupt politicians.
Many muslim democratic where rule of law and individual freedom exist are doing good job these are Malaysia, Indonesia, azerbaijan and maldives.
So the problem is not religion, the only solution that ensures prosperity is strong political system which has smooth transfer of power, ruled by law, give individual freedom and free or atleast have very low corruption can thrive toward development.

- I am a Muslim woman. I only get half share of any inheritance of what my brothers get.
- I am a Muslim woman. My testimony is only half that of a man.
- I am a Muslim woman. During prayers, I cannot pray in the same row as my sons but must always be behind them.
- I am a Muslim woman. Before I go out of my house, they tell me that I must first get my husbands permission to leave the house.
- I am a Muslim woman. As a wife, my husband is entitled to marry 3 other woman, but I can only be married to one, at a time.
- I am a Muslim woman. As a wife, I am ordered to obey the husband.

Totally agreed with you as I have many highly educated friends from Iran and all are hopeless because of worst current economic conditions of Iran. Youth of Iran is frustrated they get tired of so called revolution and unfortunately now they don’t believe in religion as well majority of youth follows no religion any more.
