    The CV carb has long been a staple of the Harley Davidson that is often overlooked for "better" aftermarket options. The reality is that the CV or constant velocity carburetor is a very capable carb, especially with a little modification. We show you the basics of the CV carb and point out it's strengths and weaknesses.

      I am rebuilding a VW experimental airplane engine conversion. It has been out of service since about 1985. Should I get a kit that is alcohol compatible. Just clean an inspect or buy a new CV carb Off eBay. Is there a kit manufacture you recommend? Where can I get a main jet for higher altitude. I am at 4000 above sea level and will be At 6000 to 10,000 above seat level. Thanks

    Excellent video by a competent technician who spoke clearly . Well done to the filming man too . It may have been worth mentioning the emulsion tube as the reason for my '96 Wideglides poor running was the tubes tiny holes were blocked due to the Bike sitting for over a year . Dried un-leaded petrol to blame . Thanks for posting ! .

    On these accelerator pumps ,there should be NO gas in the top side where the rod is...If there is gas, there is a no seal condition or breaks in the diaphragm which will cause a puddle of oily cooked gas on the crankcase right up under the carb ...It took me a year to figure that one out.. I was thinking I was getting crankcase breather oil mist blow by the whole time. It ended up being a bad diaphragm in my accelerator pump causing the stain on my crankcase which I can't remove n

    I have a cv on my 2001 Buell M2 cyclone. I love it . But from the Buell factory mine came with a idle adjustment cable that works excellent. I'm not sure what part number they used but I recommend everyone get that part. It makes adjustments easy because you can just grab the knob that hangs out just above the top cap on the carb. And just below the gas tank . IT IS SWEET!!! And as for there not quick too respond!! That's bullshit! I have 2 on my Buell and my FXR AND THEY RESPOND LIKE LIGHTNING !! ITS ALL IN HOW YOU SET THEM UP!! MY BIKES ARE SUPER FAST OUT OF THE HOLE AND ALL THE WAY THRU THE GEARS. NO HESITATION EVER!! MY SETUP IS MY OWN SECRET! YOU HAVE KNOW THAT CARB INSIDE AND OUT!

I’m guessing gas varnish so needs a good cleaning??? Don’t need high performance just smooth running and good low idle. Do you have the carb rebuild kit for it and what does it cost? I have a Vulcan 750. It cost a lot to get running so I started working on it myself. Can’t afford the $175 hr mechanic. After having two carbs “broken” according to the mechanic I’ve started messing with it here and there. I found a cv40 conversion kit online from a German welder. It seems to be a good option for simplifying the carb a little and making the parts cheaper. My issue is I am more a small motor and two stroke mechanic than these carbs. So after getting it on I got it to crank and fire but it will only hit one cylinder and then wait for a full rotation before it will fire again. I’m at 500 elevation and was wondering if there are any tips for me to just get if firing so I can start adjusting from there. What size jet should I use? Ect. I’m going to be playing around with different adjustments next week and see how it tunes out.

    • @davidkennedy2573
      @davidkennedy2573 Před 3 měsíci

      If your needle has different clip positions it is not factory and most likely a dyno-jet needle. All of the thunderslides i have ever seen have been black plastic. Factory or CVP main jet holders (emulsion tube) are a hexagon and have multiple holes along the side, if your main jet holder (emulsion tube) is round and has only one hole per side then its most likely a dynojet emulsion tube. Hope that helps you some.

Just wondering how serious it is. They do not sell these bowls any longer and I have seen some without this tube. I was thinking of soldering it back on instead of buying aftermarket carb. But if it is just a vent for draining then maybe it’s nothing to worry about?

I installed everything, however I think I have a small spring leftover about the size of the one that goes on the air/fuel mixture screw but a little smaller. Can you tell me what all gets springs? I put everything back together and the carb doesn't seem to be getting any fuel. It wasn't having any issues before. I put everything back together, turned the fuel back on and tried to start the bike. When i rolled the throttle nothing was coming out of the accelerator pump needle and after taking it back apart there was no fuel in the float bowl. Possible issues?

    • @warrenmc80
