For a channel that usually does these so well, how did you forget that before 1991, all 15 republics of the former Soviet Union was one country, so if they USSR recognised North Korea, then all of them should have been coloured.
I guess it would be confusing to have them change color to blue after independence and then again to red afterwards. Also since they weren't independent, they also couldn't recognise N Korea. But I do agree it would make more sense to color them red as long as they were part of USSR/Sudan

The Soviet Union strategically created Ukraine and Belarus as UN seats because the West had a greater number of small countries, so under one country one vote rule, this disadvantaged the Eastern bloc. Later on, it didn't matter, because as the rest of the world decolonised, the newly independent nations in the developing world usually voted the same way as the socialist bloc.

I've seen the North Korean embassy in Ulanbataar Mongolia - it was a pretty large compound with 2 or 3 buildings. Outside the building were displayed pictures of dictator kim jong un meeting with trump. I could see from outside that one of the buildings even had a korean propaganda banner hanged on it. Also I witnessed a black benz or mercidez with shaded windows a North Korean flag on the bonnet. Prolly was the ambassador coming out.

North Korea does have pretty strong relations with many ex communist countries. The regime used to send workers to these countries to operate North Korean restaurants before the UN banned it.

North Korea has nuclear weapons while most of the countries don’t, this makes the world focus on them. US don’t recognize N.Korea since they were defeated in the Korean War, so this is US’s diplomatic weapon to isolate N.Korea.
The Korean War was a stalemate and still hasn’t technically ended 🤨. If anything America did achieve its goal in protecting South Korea so it was more of a partial victory, unifying Korea wasn’t really even the main goal but it would have been a nice outcome.

Recognizing a country’s existence is completely ok no matter if they have evil regimes. For example most of NATO and the EU recognize North Korea. Well realistically, if you REALLY have to talk to DPRK and you don't have diplomatic relations, you go through Russia and China. Which used to be not hard for the US or France to do --- they're all sitting at the UN permanent security council panel, plenty of opportunities to talk. Well, currently that option isn't really open for the US due to you know, it is in a feud with both Russia AND China. But France can still ask. Japan is an entirely different story, due to WWII aftermath, Japan can barely get along with S Korea nevermind N Korea. As for the smaller countries, they don't really need to talk directly to N Korea, nor does N Korea have a direct interest in them.
