The Recognition of Israel Since 1948

- The video shows the recognition of the state of Israel when it was formally established by the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May 1948. As of December 2020, it has received diplomatic recognition from 164 (85%) of the 193 total UN member states. 28 member states have either never recognized Israel or have withdrawn their recognition; while others have severed diplomatic relations without explicitly withdrawing recognition.

I'm surprised that the USSR recognized it earlier than USA
USSR was the first country in the world to recognise israel
Soviets one of the creaters
Didn't Schindler's list already address this issue at the end, in a subtle manner? The Soviets provided safe passage of Jews from East Europe to Israel/Palestine area. Infact, most early Zionists were pretty Left-wing.
Israel has been created and funded by The USSR
And then Ussr was Betrayed
"The Soviet Union was the first country to grant de jure recognition to Israel on 17 May 1948,[7] followed by Nicaragua, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Poland." So Yugoslavia was among first. In this video you show EX YU countries in today borders.
Yugoslavia indeed recognized Israel but ties failed around 1967. (Because of the war) Since then Yugoslavia was pro-palestinian and tried its best to be a mediator and calm the situation down but failed because of it intentionally "complex" nature.
They're too lazy to use actual maps at the time and change them over time.
Fake ,usa recognise Israel on 14 may 1948 search it on google
I'm surprised that Iran at one point recognized Israel
That's their previous liberal government. Not today's radical Islamic republic.
Before the Islamic revolution, they were really friendly with Israel, after that, they went ballistic and started funding terrorists on Israel's border.
It was a puppet government in place, before the Iranian revolution, when the Iranian people kicked out the American occupiers.
Because it was a dictatorship put in place by the USA and UK from 1953 to 1979
Before the Iranian revolution, Israel and Iran were good friends
Germany took a suspicious amount of time to recognize them
They took an UNDERSTANDABLE amount of time, kinda surprised they still do now tho
The apple can't get far from the tree
East Germany during it's entire existence never recognised Israel. But I don't know why the map on the video shows Germany as one nation where in realty during the cold war they were two states.
The audacity.
post-Fascist or post-far-right countries had some delays with recognition, like Germany, Spain and Portugal.
It's interesting to me how, even within the Warsaw pact Romania remained semi independent with foreign policy
Ceausescu's Romania was a strong prosperous country, but he went crazy with his decisions and in the end he fked up his nation in 1980s so they feel it up to today.
not before Chauchesko - Georgo Desz was a stalinist!
Yeah, we even refused to take part in & *condemned* the invasion of Czechoslovakia, by the Soviets! - which was surprisingly morally upright, coming from our dictator. 🤔
Ofc, there were prob other interests at play... Still, it was a hallmark moment during the Cold War. Romania & Albania basically sided with the West. 🤷♀️

It took so long for Spain to have relations with Israel because it always got along better with the non-aligned Arab countries. Israel was one of the countries that supported the boycott of Spain, which brought Spain and the Arab monarchies closer together, eventually having a good friendship with them. , is reflected in the fact that Spain did not suffer a rise or shortage of oil in the oil crises.

For those who are surprise with USSR support from the beggining, important to remember that, during the first decades os Israel, the dominant position among zionists was to be socialist as well.
Ben Gurion, that lead the first Israeli government, was a fanboy of Lenin (considerd above the jew Trotsky even).
It was not uncommon in jewish families in the earlier XXth century to have part of the chuldren directly involved with zionism and the other part with the Revolution - the "national and supranational callings".
The right wing zionism would became more important from 1970's onward, and is the dominant force today - the polarization today is between liberals and religious, with the conservative nationalism of Netanyahu being the dominant middle (even if this position being fragile).
PS: despite the inner locus of power in Israel change from the left in the 1970's, the favorable view of the jews by the USSR changed radically just after the recognition lf Israel, reproducing during the 1950's propaganda that portrait jews with the same old archetypes that the nazis used (hooked nose, money grablers, allied with the anglo imperialism to enslave peoples, etc).
Mr.Goebbels told me that would happen. Russia reacted to the USS Liberty harder than America.
I know
They will be anything you want them to be....left, right, democrats, republicans, socialists, liberals, marxist, communists, etc so long as their agenda & plans move forward.

@@yoavlinzen5669 they also had unwanted jewish population stalin wanted to get rid of
Britain brought the Jews of Europe to Palestine in 1917 and then decided to withdraw from Palestine in 1947, but the Jews wanted to declare their own state on the land of Palestine, and the Palestinians wanted their own land, and Britain made the issue to the United Nations, and although it was the one who brought the Jews to Europe, it did not agree to the idea of dividing Palestine
Its because the bolsheviks were run by Jews and supported a jewish state and influenced Stalin to support it but Stalin in 1950 felt betrayed and decided they were enemies and Soviets switched side.
@Hasnaoui Kont Your delusional. Stalin came from a Georgian orthodox Christian. His parents wanted him to become a priest. The Bolsheviks were dominated by Jews. They saw communism as a means to an end to anti Jew and anti Zionism. When state of Isreal was founded, all the jews in America supported it became an American ally. Stalin felt betrayed by the jews. he done allot for isreal and the jews a she thought Isreal would ally with the Soviets. Since 1950. The Jews never became influential in the Soviet Union ever again. It didn't matter as the Jews had too much influence in America to get any support it needed.
I'm reading the comments here, and I don't know why so many people find it so hard to understand why Egypt recognized Israel so early... Egypt fought a war with Israel and lost, big time: it lost a large amount of territory in the NE: the Gaza and Sinai peninsula. In exchange for the return of the Sinai, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, the primary stipulation being it recognize Israel as a legitimate sovereign state. The current Gaza War is a remnant issue from that: even though Gazans were Egyptian prior to 1967, they insist somehow they need to be the official separate state of "Palestine" and own all the territories of Israel even though they were "occupied" after Israel captured the land from Egypt. Egypt never would have made them a separate state. And it's one reason Egypt doesn't want Gazans back now either: once they created this Palestinian identity, they caused massive trouble for neighboring Arab states. 1970, the PLO attempted to overthrow a reigning monarch, King Hussein of Jordan, and that's why Palestinians are persona non grata everywhere in the region. Even Lebanon is uncomfortable with their Palestinian refugees and keep them at arms length, similar to how Israelis kept Gazans at arms length. That's why Lebanon won't have them either: they already have a ton from the 1948 and 1967 conflicts and they are nothing but trouble.
Please note that the dates used in this video refer to the date on which each individual state recognized Israel de jur (mutual embassys etc.) Some states had already de facto recognized the state of Israel. The USA, for example, made it clear on May 14, 1948 (the day Israel was founded) that it would recognize Israel. (West)Germany did the same thing in 1952, three years after the BRD (Westgermany) was founded.

0:30 Look that blue island in Eastern Europe... One of the MANY reasons you just don't get to call Communist Romania a Soviet sattelite, a fallacy that is painfully common.
Early Ceaucescu reign marks time when Romania often rebels against the USSR. He also condemned USSR intervention in Czechoslovakia.
I wouldn't put it like that. Most independence milestones were already reached by Ceaușescu's predecessor, Gheorghiu Dej. These were: the eviction of the Red Army (1958), the official rejection of Soviet meddling (April 1964 declaration) and the eviction of Soviet advisors (December 1964). So, when Ceaușescu came to Power in march 1965, he was pretty much handed an independent Romania. What Ceaușescu did add was the cancellation of Warsaw Pact exercises on Romanian territory. Those in 1964 were the last, the last time foreign/Soviet troops entered Romania for maneuvers.
Ceausescu's Romania was something that even started to be good, but he went way too mad in late 1970s-early 1980s...
