  • The video shows the recognition of the state of Israel when it was formally established by the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May 1948. As of December 2020, it has received diplomatic recognition from 164 (85%) of the 193 total UN member states. 28 member states have either never recognized Israel or have withdrawn their recognition; while others have severed diplomatic relations without explicitly withdrawing recognition.

Yugoslavia indeed recognized Israel but ties failed around 1967. (Because of the war) Since then Yugoslavia was pro-palestinian and tried its best to be a mediator and calm the situation down but failed because of it intentionally "complex" nature.

For those who are surprise with USSR support from the beggining, important to remember that, during the first decades os Israel, the dominant position among zionists was to be socialist as well.
Ben Gurion, that lead the first Israeli government, was a fanboy of Lenin (considerd above the jew Trotsky even).
It was not uncommon in jewish families in the earlier XXth century to have part of the chuldren directly involved with zionism and the other part with the Revolution - the "national and supranational callings".
The right wing zionism would became more important from 1970's onward, and is the dominant force today - the polarization today is between liberals and religious, with the conservative nationalism of Netanyahu being the dominant middle (even if this position being fragile).
PS: despite the inner locus of power in Israel change from the left in the 1970's, the favorable view of the jews by the USSR changed radically just after the recognition lf Israel, reproducing during the 1950's propaganda that portrait jews with the same old archetypes that the nazis used (hooked nose, money grablers, allied with the anglo imperialism to enslave peoples, etc).

I'm reading the comments here, and I don't know why so many people find it so hard to understand why Egypt recognized Israel so early... Egypt fought a war with Israel and lost, big time: it lost a large amount of territory in the NE: the Gaza and Sinai peninsula. In exchange for the return of the Sinai, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, the primary stipulation being it recognize Israel as a legitimate sovereign state. The current Gaza War is a remnant issue from that: even though Gazans were Egyptian prior to 1967, they insist somehow they need to be the official separate state of "Palestine" and own all the territories of Israel even though they were "occupied" after Israel captured the land from Egypt. Egypt never would have made them a separate state. And it's one reason Egypt doesn't want Gazans back now either: once they created this Palestinian identity, they caused massive trouble for neighboring Arab states. 1970, the PLO attempted to overthrow a reigning monarch, King Hussein of Jordan, and that's why Palestinians are persona non grata everywhere in the region. Even Lebanon is uncomfortable with their Palestinian refugees and keep them at arms length, similar to how Israelis kept Gazans at arms length. That's why Lebanon won't have them either: they already have a ton from the 1948 and 1967 conflicts and they are nothing but trouble.

Please note that the dates used in this video refer to the date on which each individual state recognized Israel de jur (mutual embassys etc.) Some states had already de facto recognized the state of Israel. The USA, for example, made it clear on May 14, 1948 (the day Israel was founded) that it would recognize Israel. (West)Germany did the same thing in 1952, three years after the BRD (Westgermany) was founded.

I wouldn't put it like that. Most independence milestones were already reached by Ceaușescu's predecessor, Gheorghiu Dej. These were: the eviction of the Red Army (1958), the official rejection of Soviet meddling (April 1964 declaration) and the eviction of Soviet advisors (December 1964). So, when Ceaușescu came to Power in march 1965, he was pretty much handed an independent Romania. What Ceaușescu did add was the cancellation of Warsaw Pact exercises on Romanian territory. Those in 1964 were the last, the last time foreign/Soviet troops entered Romania for maneuvers.

@@DibyajyotiPatraAshu Well Yaah, In 1950s we just recognized Israel, in 1990s we kinda started diplomatic relations by setting up embassy but the real good relation started under PM Narendra Modi ji when he met former PM of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu. The relation between India and Israel is getting stronger and stronger day by day.

technical note: It seems a bit artificial to have countries be “red” before their independence, for example Kenya being a British colony until 1963, should be blue with Britain.

Israel has killed a Palestinian people, and they do not respect and abuse the elderly, kill children, and kill men who pray in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and want to raid Al-Aqsa Mosque and build their temple, meaning that they hate the religion of Islam and love Israel as a criminal? Semi-terrorists bro, Israel is worse than ISIS, terrorism, the Taliban, America and Israel are like rotting garbage, and that is why you love them? You are just backwards supporting Israel's crimes
