I've seen a comment like "if this doesn't win the UMK, the Eurovision is officially cancelled". Well, that comment was right, because Cicciolina lost the UMK and Eurovision 2020 is OFFICIALLY cancelled. Well predicted.
No countries should. They have a long history of destroying national finals and dumbing down songs to a bland, mainstream formula. If there's to be an international jury, at least have a super final so the public get the final say.
Franky Novotny Back in 2000 it was the Finnish jury that downvoted Nightwish killing all their options for a victory, even when they won the televote, so sometimes even a local jury isn’t enough.
Can you petition UMK organisers to dump international juries or, at least, add a super final so the public get the final say? Your neighbours Estonia showed the last two years how a super final can overcome a wayward jury vote.

As a Finnish person, I think this performance is very corny, and not in a good way. The vocals are pitchy and forced, she is not good live, I am sorry. She lacks the vocal technique. Also, she lacks the charisma, she tries too much here. Otherwise she is a lovely person with a great message and the song is pretty catchy.

The juries selected a boring song just because of a good voice.Many singers have good voices ,but sing songs that are related to no one,so they have no career. Cicciolina was a chance to show esc that we are getting bored of "good voices with bad music".The most catchy participant since "diva".The song had a meaning and the stage appearance was not trash(although I expected to be).There was something going wrong with the music and the vocals and that is true.Her voice was just ok. Actually, the fault is in televoting, the difference between her and that other guy was only 5 points, you never expect her to win jury voting, actually she did surprisingly well in jury voting.
I mean nothing against Aksel, but I get why more countries aim for internal selection. Finland would have qualified easily with this in this year it would have stood out and televote wold have save it like Serhat last year. But okay that is now unrelevant. So we have one more male artist with a ballad like a lot of other countries have. So it will be hard to qualify for him but its possible. Best of luck to Aksel. And I hope Erika will return some day
I don't even think it's about qualifying for the Eurovision final. It's about sending something Finns feel best represent them. Instead you add a bunch of international idiots to override your wishes.
It depends very much on what kind of songs there are in Finland's semifinal. If there are a lot of ballads, Finland will probably not fare as well with Aksel. It's not enough to have a good singing voice and a decent song. You need to stand out. Though, the show built around Aksel's song was a positive surprise. Very hard to say how this will end.
@@Cikeb There are some much better ballads in Finland's semifinal (Switzerland, Bulgaria, Albania, heck, even Portugal) and some of them are so liked that they're qualifiers with 100% certainty. (Especially Switzerland and Bulgaria) Juries would be the only hope of "Looking back" and the other ballads are more than likely going to appeal more to them as well.

She didn't won because in the end when she was leading points from televoting and jury, the international jury wich were 6 country's the UK and the other were east european and Russia, these were hired by Suomi national television, they were so conservatif and gave the minimum votes to Erika Vikman, just having her on stage would have been a victory....
I've never been this sad over umk results.. like i can't even get over this 😔 this whole performance was sooo perfect and now we will never know how this would've stand out in eurovision.. all because of juries...

But the Finnish broadcasting company YLE chose to give half of the votes to small foreign juries, who decided otherwise. Everybody should write to YLE and demand them to stop using foreign juries. The theory is because Eurovision is an international audience, an international jury will promote songs with international appeal so you get better results. In some ways it works, especially for Sweden. Of course, the risk is you destroy local styles & language from prospering in your national final - dumbing down songs to a bland, mainstream formula. I'd rather Finland miss the final with Erika Vikman than qualify with Aksel.

Cicciolina is an epic, unforgotten entry. The winner song is boring, typical ballad, easy to forget. I'm not huge fan of both songs, but Cicciolina was really something Europe would talk about for many years, and the winner song is nothing like that. It's just... meh. Exactly, agree 100% when you choose a winner you have to know the audience and while Looking back might be a radio worthy song, it's not an Eurovision song, Cicciolina was already a hit amongst international fans, just look at the views... The theory is because Eurovision is an international audience, an international jury will promote songs with international appeal so you get better results. In some ways it works, especially for Sweden. Of course, the risk is you destroy local styles & language from prospering in your national final - dumbing down songs to a bland, mainstream formula. I'd rather Finland miss the final with Erika Vikman than qualify with Aksel.

@@enkeksinytnimea9083 it's so clear that international juries always bury the song with the highest chance to qualify/winning. They do that in every country that has them. It's so sad to have good songs losing their NF year after year. Finland has been being wronged for so long it almost feels like a tradition now. I think you're Finnish, you really need to get rid of the international jury. I'm Spanish and we also have a lot of work to do when it comes to ESC
