- BESS is competing in UMK22 with her song Ram Pam Pam. The message of the song is that everyone should be free and allowed to live. NOTE: ENGLISH SUBTITLES AVAILABLE!
The Helsinki pop artist combines electronic pop and house music. BESS has a gravelly voice, and her music is very much in keeping with the artist herself: effervescent and audacious.
UMK competition songs are published one at a time at midnight from 13 to 21 January in CZcams, Spotify and other music streaming services.
The winner and Finland's Eurovision representative will be selected at the UMK final on Saturday 26 February.

In my humble opinion this is exactly the kind of song we've been missing on Eurovision these last years: a bubblegum pop uptempo tune, energetic without being too generic (the finnish language makes it unique aplenty)

Only Problem, that is the main problem is that it is sung in Finnish. Simply Sublime song, great catching easy lyrics. You can NEVER have any success with language that no one else understands.

This is my favorite song of this year's UMK and the fact that it is in Finnish is just the cherry on top.
If she's able to perform this level live, from the 3 till now, this one is the best one in melody, rythm and also the finnish language make it some how exotic and pleasant. Strong, strong song Finland.

A pity Finnish people don't like their language in music, because I really love it! In my opinion it's an energetic and melodic language, suits very well uptempo and ballads.
We like our language but many of us have grown up hearing others constantly trashtalk our language calling it ugly or unmelodic.

Todella iso positiivinen yllätys! Bessin upean käheä ääni pääse oikeuksiinsa kertsissä, tuo mukavasti särmää muutenkin menevään kipaleeseen. Muutenki ääni kuulostaa läpi kappaleen monipuoliselta ja eläväiseltä.
Rallatukset kertsissä ei lähtökohtaisesti mene jatkoon, mutta tässä toimii kohtuullisesti, koska sitä rallatusta ei hoeta estottoman paljon ja kertsi ei onneksi ole pelkkää rallatusta.

I usually like heavier music, but I like this song better than the cyan kicks song. I just like this woman's voice better and the song is catchy and fun. The first song was just ok for a rock song, it just lacked... something 🤷♀️
Agree. Cyan Kicks felt kinda weak and watered down, too poppy imo. This one was even more poppy but it still had more personality.

Finnish is a beautiful language. It makes me sad to see that Finnish people are against sending a song in their own language to Eurovision
It's because of the experience we have had with such entries. Repetition of such experience creates a pessimistic additude which is strengthened by others who feel the same. Trauma might be hard to break out from.
@@ratyjoonabut Finland has gotten plenty of bad results with English songs too. A strong song is a strong song, no matter the language. I’d hate to see Finland choose a mediocre English song over a strong Finnish song because they’re convinced Finnish songs can’t do well.
@@mirroroffthewall5932 Last time a song in Finnish got to top 10 was in 1989. And still most of the ESC winners after year 2000 sang their songs in English. Language may not be the ultimate deal-breaker but it certainly does have an effect. Risks may simply be higher with other language, especially if that language isn't a big language.
Some may think that jury doesn't like Finnish, or haven't liked in past. Trauma and prejudice might be hard to break.
And also, this may not feel super strong song to Finns because it is kind of a radio music for us. Some just don't see anything special in it, thus not thinking it being interesting, thus making a conclusion that one doesn't have a chance to win ESC with such song. Too mainstream.

Ei Italia varmastikaan ois voittanut mikäli ois englanniks laulanut. Suomellahan muutenkin on aina mennyt paskasti euroviisuissa, viimeisiksi ollaan tultu englanninkielisilläkin kappaleilla. @@ducknator I truly hope that's the case nowadays, that Finnish would be seen as an accepted language if the song is good. I love Finnish as a language and I'm proud to speak such a small and unique language. However, 'Aina mun pitää'.. got so much negative attention and even Finnish language was blasted. I guess people back then really just hated that song and decided to hate on the language since hating the performers would not be acceptable either. Oh well, I do hope for a good live show and that's how I will choose who to vote for!

Yes. Secretly we Finns always think what the others think of us. We might sing along and listen to this song in secret, but we don’t dare to send it to Italy because this is ”suomipop”. Then we rather scare the sh*t out of people and send some goblins or metalheads instead.

I actually can't handle umk's... They make me so furious because in Australia there is usually the 1 that you KNOW will win but Finland you just CANNOT decide and then you lose all these amazing bops...
We have to wait till 17 to get the next song…I’m dying when the UMK chairman said about the high quality of each entry, he was not exaggerating. Unlike other national final where they just trick us to have high expectation. We can really expect the best from Finland. 3 years in a row after reformatting the national final and serving 3 years of quality streak.

THIS! If Bess can sing this well live, she's a possible winner. For the big Eurovision, not just UMK. Although I love The Rasmus and I'd wish so much to have Finnish rock in Eurovision, Bess brings the only song that has the much-needed oomph. It's catchy from the first round, while all other songs just aren't... It's bouncy, melodic and powerful. The other ones sound like radio songs and nothing more. It's either Bess or Rasmus (a bit worse song, but big international fanbase)... vote wisely, Finland!
