First dig around the sprinkler...
separate the upper portion from the base mark spray direction with screw driver lined up with spray head nozzle...
then pull out upper body...
clean in dish soap till you can actuate (up and down )sprinkler head either rotary or popup...
then wash off soap ...
lubricate with silicone any o-ring product will do (plastic /rubber safe)so plastic will not be damaged ..
make sure you actuate unit to lubricate both sides of sliding sleeve ... place back in base spray head lined up with marker screw driver...
works for me...

I realize this is 3 years ago, but I will give you a tip that you made a mistake in and that all sprinklers are water lubricated and no extra lubrication is provided by the manufacturer for a reason. Any lubricant will not mix with the water and will eventually become sticky. I would not be surprised if this sprinkler eventually starting sticking. I hope it did not, but I am glad you shared this video.
Try Super Lube O-Ring you will see the difference it is not oil or Vaseline which would eventually stick with those type chemicals.. 100 % silicone is the answer😇

great vid! y not use petroleum ky jelly? much cheaper instead of the o ring lube?
the Jelly is made of Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Hydroxyethycellulose, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Gluconolactone, Methylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide.
O-ring lube is 100% silicone does not deteriorate rubber, heat tested and made for long term use just no comparison -works for me- so keep your jelly for something else -good luck God bless

I just replace the top insert portion flush out ,align ,test and done - works for me - I also pre lube heads with o-ring lube to make them last longer 100% silicone
@@mbjdiy1778 thank you sir. so if i buy just a rotary head for railbirds, i just unscrew the top of the old railbird, NOT THE WHOLE BODY, and replace it with the rotary top, correct, swap out?
Plumber’s grease should also work. Same thing but may be thicker.
Are there any concerns of dirt sticking to the silicone and do you think a “dry” silicone spray would work as well? Thanks for the video. 👍
the lube and grease 100 % silicone is the best ... dry silicone does not work at all .... and your doing the internal shaft and clearing your lines should not effect it all with dirt and heads wont stick so mower spray will not be an issue ..Works for me God Bless😇
I have been playing with sprinklers as a hobby for over 50 years and know them in intimate detail. The manufacturers never use any lubrication on a sprinkler as it will not do anything but cause it to stick or become sticky. The sprinklers are water lubricated and they tell you never to use any lubricant on them for a reason.
So if I buy new Hunters I should silicone them from the start so they will last longer? I have had Orbits and when they quit working Orbit said (I called them) there was no fix.

My rain bird rotary won’t rotate, it is 1/2 inch model.
Take it out .. clean and lube like the video ... most of the time they are just dirty and dry or clogged at the bottom screen at the base water inlet or spray head which easy to see blockage (so when cleaning let soak for a while and spray out base with hose) . worst case scenario the gear inside has gone bad, but the unit would have to be really old or high use or a cheap no name brand (generic ) which yours is not cheap... Works for me God bless
All my Rainbirds have finally done this. I was looking for a video on how to repair ones that stop rotating, but this video just seems to show how to make them look pretty, but the rotation still doesn't work (some rotate to the end and then stop, others just don't rotate at all in any direction). Here they don't cost "just $5"
Dang, rain bird heads are under $5.
