This was a great song that got over looked. When you hear it on good stereo system the bass line is killer it drives the song!
At least she wasn't a one hit wonder and she was in Jesus Christ superstar she had 5 songs that made the charts and she won a Grammy for if I can't have you
one of my fave tracks this was a big hit on the uk gay scene at the time ............i still play this when i dj on 70's 80's nights here in the uk it still goes down a storm after all these years !
love it xxx
I had this 45 when I was a teen. All her songs were wonderful, she had a great voice!
This was a huuuuuge hit in San Francisco in 1980 , I used to dance to this at Alfie's , it was a kinda underground hit in gay clubs , because it was the end of the disco era and the music was going towards a more rock and new wave vibe , music like this with heavy strings started to fade and torn more electronic . This song was played with north ends kinda life kinda love , and nightlife unlimited love is in you an Gibson brothers Cuba .
I love Yvonne's music I like her other hits love me and hello stranger too
Ay señor, creo que soy la única que ama y adora está canción de Yvonne Elimman. Tengo bellos recuerdos de mi adolescencia con esta canción. La bailaba en la sala de mi casa cuando estaba triste por alguna desilusión amorosa.
IM A ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER... AND BORN IN HAWAII BUT LIVE IN CALIFORNIA FOR AWHILE NOW..ITS A GOOD THING TO HEAR ANOTHER ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER MAKE IT BIG INTO MAINSTREAM NATIONAL WORLD MUSIC INDUSTRY..IF IM NOT MISTAKEN IR CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG ,I THINK MISS YVONNE ELLIMAN WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ASIAN AMERICAN ARTIST TO. EVER DO THAT AND BECOME NOTICED IN THE MAINSTREAM ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY.. U HAVE MORE ASIAN AMERICAN ARTIST NOW DAYS THAT MAKE THEIR MARK IN THE ENTERTAINMENT MAINSTREAM SCENE.. BUT THERE ARE STILL NOT ENOUGH OUT THERE REALLY..SO IM PROUD OF MISS YVONNE ELLIMAN FOR BEING ONE OF THE FIRST TO MAKE IT BIG!!!!
Yvonne's mother is Japanese and her father was Irish-American. I think he was a serviceman in WW2. My God, is she beautiful!!
This song is REALLY, REALLY good. The tune. The lyrics. The works. The beat. Bravo Yvonne Elliman...I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
This Version Rocks
Such an underrated disco gem. Thanks Music Mike!
My pleasure!
The one dancer in this video is simply adorable
Yep, the smaller of the two. Both are good, but the smaller one stoles the dance
I love this song! I love disco music!!!
I loved this song from the first time I heard it!!
I can't believe that I just heard this song for the very first time tonight, on the Disco Saturday Night Radio Program. I absolutely loved it! I can certainly relate too! Very powerful words! Wow!
Music mike,thank you beatiful song.
I absolutely love this song!
Betifol song love it thanks jou ingrid akkermans
Still one of the best voices I've ever heard, for my taste anyway. Manages to produce a very "feel good" tone in the high notes, with soul, without any of that annoying little girl quality that singers like Brittany an Jessica were trying to force and pinch out of their adult vocal chords. "If I can't have you" is the best example of Yvonne's unique sound.
Simply marvelous. And the couple of girls dancing are rather cute!
This track brings back many great memories when i started "attending" discotheques in the UK, on a regular basis (when I was legally able to, of course :) ). Anyway, this was one of the most popular dance records. It was original, passionate and exciting. Great to dance to. They do not make them like this anymore :( Machine's "There for the Grace of God go I" and Jackie Rawe's "I believe in dreams" were also up there !
Best wishes to these artists from my earlier years :)
Superb big underground club hit here in the UK HINRG
Great song!!
You’re the best, Mike!
Love!
xoxo The Clarences
Used to spin the radio mix of this in the club back in '79. Brings back some great memories! Thanks for posting this mix. Never heard it before.
First time to hear this version.....I LOVE IT!
Great song! Brings back memories at The Sting Disco Night Club
I have the album ,but my record player has been gone. I 'm happy to hear the song
for the first time in many years.
Thanks Music Mike. Love anything that's Yvonne Elliman. You do a great job. Glad you doing your stuff!!!
For sure....thanks
I love this old track!!!!
Hazel Dean and Liza Minnelli (with the Pet Shop Boys) both recorded this song as well, but Yvonne's version, with the real string section, was the first!
Mike, I've been a subscriber of yours for a while now - you deserve your own radio show! Ryan Seacrest - feh! You're as good as Casey Casem (sp?) and I wish the era of a chart countdown was still hot!! (Or am I just getting older...? - DON"T ANSWER THAT.)
Thank you for this fantastic song!
Love the video that goes with it.
Good 70 era song memories
You did a great job Mike! Nice, very nice.
Thank You.
:) Great Oldie!!
Wow, very good remix!! Absolutely love it!
Great job. Loving it.
@CarsonsClub --- it's a Bill Drake "Boss Radio" jingle.....used by several big radio stations in the 60's & 70's like CKLW in Windsor/Detroit and KHJ in Los Angeles.
Music Mike, I love your professional introduction.
Great memories with this song! And your voice is amazing! Thanks for sharing! ;)
tellement bon wow
Hey DizzyDevil,
I agree...I remember this being played at The Railway in Bolton, Greater Manchester. I think it was on the B side to if I can't have you. Great for dancing.
Mike, I love your radio-quality voice.
D.J. Glenn had me hold on to some records; while he got his car keys out after the club closed late one night around 9 or 10 years ago. One of the records was Love Pains.
Discotheek Pits Zolder!!!!
Didn't Yvonne Elliman also appear and sing in Jesus Christ Superstar ? A great voice and such a beautiful woman.
Yes she did.
Gorgeous voice
top choooooon.
a gem of a song - way to go Mike. Liner notes on the LP list some heavy weights...
Really nice job, Mike...
I've always love this song! I have the 45 and the 12 inch on Moby Dick Records and RSO. Never have I seen this 45 mix!! Thanks so much for sharing. I love what they did with the disco break. Really nice! Does the 45 say who mixed it?
Love Pains from Liza Minelli: What is the good version?
What about Hazel Deans version ?
