Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Original Disco Single)

- Donna's top 10 grammy nominated effort, produced by Quincy Jones after the "I'm A Rainbow" album debacle. Quincy would go on to produce MJ's "Thriller" immediately afterward. This album included the "practice run" for "We Are The World", Jon and Vengelis' "State of Independence". I've merged the 12" vinyl with the CD album track to capture the best sound whenever possible, as to my knowledge, this extended track has yet to be remastered digitally.

I USED TO WORK AS A COREOGRAPHER IN MY COUNTRY CHILE,DONNA IN HIS FIRST VISIT TO HERE ,APRIL 21 TH 1992 SHE TOOK MY HANDS TO TALK ,AMAZING MOMENT IN MY LIFE ,SO KIND A GREAT TALENT I SAW HER IN THE SAME STAGE WERE I WORK ,YES IN A REHEARSE A CAPELLA ,TEARS OF HAPPINESS FELT FROM MY EYES THAT GREAT DAY.THAT YEAR SHE SANG SONG FROM THE ALBUM "MISTAKEN IDENTITY" I SAID IN OUR CONVERSATION ,DONNA I AM NOT A FRIEND UNKNOW ANYMORE !!! SHE SAID YES !!! I KNOW YOU .DONNA I MISS YOU,HOWEVER YOU ARE HERE
I consider 1978-1985 to be a high water mark in popular music history. The evidence is everywhere.
My aunts third husband had just died (YES There were more) this song came on the radio and I rocked her living room with it up and down like only a 17-year-old kid can do. I think I helped her break out of her shell to continue on with life. And HEY what a better song to (come out) with I mean hello. I’m 60 years old now and I still remember songs like this!!!!!
That's a lot of husbands...
This song was produced by Mr Quincy Jones in 1982 this song is just as energizing as it was in 1982
it had all rod tempertons influence all over it as well sdo miss those funky years
Donna Summer proved that she was not just a '70s Disco Queen.
She was further more that a Disco Queen of the 70s. She could easily switched from Disco to Rock because was an Incredible singer and an Icon!
@@Darrigrande yes
Queen of good music with a style all her own. I miss her
So true. Listen to the b-side of this superb single, the haunting ballad 'Sometimes Like Butterflies' - this beautiful song shows off Donna Summer's incredibly soulful voice so well, and shows just how diverse and accomplished an artist she was. She left us way too soon, but she will never be forgotten. Her fine legacy of music will endure for all time.👌🎤🎶
This was a huge hit, but it really didn't get the recognition as a futuristic funk anthem that it deserved. It was the jam of the summer, but oddly, quickly forgotten by the general public. I think it's an absolutely perfect, brilliant pop/funk song, with an unmatched energy. A true classic.
Donna and Quincy you can't go wrong. Love it 1982.
The writer Rod Temperton
EXACTLY ! The GOAT.
@@kingy231
One of the best pop voices ever! She wasn’t blues, soul, funk, rock, gospel, jazz - she was Donna!
Didnt know Donna Summer was ill for so long, she hid her illness too well--shocked that day she passed away..Donna passed and is Gone, but DONNA SUMMER'S DISCO LEGACY WILL ALWAYS LIVE ON, her timeless gift to this planet which lost so much like Heavy D and Whitney Houston... R.I.P Donna Summer
We need Bob Belcher and Donna Summer duet remix. A.S.A.P!
"Oh Rudy you are going to love her" -Bob
Rest well Donna Summer (singer) and Rod Temperton (Song Writer) ♥
Uberlaser Yes Indeed! R.I.P. ! 👀🙃
I had almost Forgotten about this song. Then I CZcams stumbled on it, and the memories came rushing back: Jacksonville at the corner store trying to get change in quarters for a $2 bill (little did I know the future value 🙄 ) my grandma gave me and my brother to play her neighbor's new pinball machine. Thanks You Tube/Donna/the Poster of this song....
This song has an energy that is matched by no other. Still sounds fresh & futuristic.
We must remember that she was the forerunner & pioneer of the powerful Bass, Electronic & Synthesized composition of Dance, Disco numbers. I remember in the 70s her songs were unheard of and every dance floor was Donna Summer ‘The Woman with music & voice From The Future’
@@kojoharrison630 Absolutely. I still remember the first time I heard "Love To Love You Baby" walking past the electronics department in Sears & it was playing on a high end stereo in the aisle. I told my mother I wanted to go to the National Record Mart & buy the record. When she listened to it for a moment, she rolled her eyes and we went to the Record Mart & got the 45. It had Part 1 on one side & Part 2 on the other. I played both sides of that record until it sounded like crap. One of the clearest memories of my childhood, oddly.
@@zubileegluckgluck WOW!!👏🏾👏🏾
A true Donna Summer child 👍🏾
I still have that vinyl from 1975 with its accompanying Full Album cassette which are still looking new as I’ve taken good care of them. I have all her vinyls & CDs as well. Her music wasn’t just composed but constructed and the vocal resonance and range is just second to none….. James Ingram applauded her during the recording of ‘Mystery of Love’ on the 1982 ‘Donna Summer’ album saying she has the best vocals that can handle any style of music. Quincy JONES echoed those sentiments. With Donna’s experience when Love is Control was cut, she wasn’t satisfied so sent Quincy & the production team back to the studio and they did it all over again until Donna was satisfied. She was Renowned for her ‘once only’ takes on all her recordings and was dubbed ‘One-Take’ Donna as she recorded her vocals just once without retakes!!
I owned this album back around 1980 give or take, and when I pumped this tune on my turntable and through the big loudspeakers with huge woofers, it would trigger me into walking all over the furniture in the apartment......I bet my neighbors across the hall and below me just loved me to death.....this tune, the Pointers' "Automatic", Thomas Dolby's "Science" and a few other choice dance tunes.....oh, how we miss these brothers and sisters and the era in which Quincy, Donna, Michael thrived and ruled Hollywood and LA......I could cry!
bla bla bla......She was a singer. @@kojoharrison630
That vocoder told us that the 80s were going to take over soon. The first 2 years of the 80s were a 70s hangover. The decade didn't have its own identity yet. Donna, Midnight Star, The Pointers, along with the Electro/Hip Hop/Techno pioneers shook us out of the 70s and pushed things forward. Cool to see that Donna was all in back then.
roger and zap started it.
This is another great song by the late Rod Temperton, who was a member of Heatwave and wrote great tracks for a long list of pop, soul and R&B acts over the years. RIP to both Donna and Rod.
David Gregory yes and Michael Jackson & James Ingram backing up the vocals
FUNK...........
And there is more including Dinner With Gershwin!
There is another great Funk Song (it was not included in her "All Systems Go" album) it sounds like Teena Marie's music.
Donna Summer has several Funk Music songs (as Pop and Dance tracks) and those songs sound like Teena Marie , Chaka Khan, Brenda Russell, M J and Rick James styles.

He also wrote Thriller!

I saw Donna Summer 5 times in my life .and boy what woman she was rip . I have all here 12 inch remix songs .
Donna had a legendary voice, no question about that!
What a great 👍funky song 🎵👌
Underrated and under played classic by the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer may she rest in peace.
That's right!!!
Underrated? Underplayed? Where? I played this every shift at the Badlands in San Francisco. It hit the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100. I heard it in every gay club I danced in. Straight ones, too.

What a strong Voice and what a super Song
the 80's was a blast......and this was one of the hottest song in the summer of 1982.
She was a beautiful lady to the end. Such a very talented woman and singer
Donna Summer wasn't R&B,pop,or rock. She was all that and more! Pure Talent!
Isit possible that this my favorite donna summer song is 38 years old when i was 22 where have the years gone love the memories RIP Donna
Absolutely love this track. Donna shows her versatility with vocal range and rocking out!
Wayy Underrated Vocalist. Rest In Power, My Queen
She had a fab voice several octaves could be reached. Passed way before her time 😔 But her music is her legacy. Some of the modern day 🤣not a patch. Can only dream 😏
I GOT MY FINGER ON THE TRIGGER
Can we talk about how versatile her vocal performance is on this? She's doing all kinds of stuff man.
The song suffers when she performs it live - on her Hot Summer Night concert tape. Studio mics and retakes serve a purpose, it turns out...
The song was made for radio and dance clubs. Disco was exiting stage left. Look at it as an "experiment" People were really confused about what would sell. That's what this is in part about.
That's true Walter....but it was still a great cut to cha-cha, or swing to....in the dance clubs. It was in the transition period between disco/dance/hi-energy. Still a great song for people that love dance music.
Mr. Fufferman That's the awesomeness of Donna
1982, this album was a pivotal time in my life when I came out as a proud gay man, and I wore this album out!! I miss Donna
Under-rated---under-appreciated---this was a Diamond of a recording---LONG LIVE DONNA !!!!
Donna will live for ever because legends never die!
IT'S 2024 AND WE STILL LISTENING 🎧 TO THIS SONG BECAUSE WE LOVE ❤️ IT
Man do I miss Donna. Summer. 😢. One thing I do daily is listen to the queen every day. That way she lives in my heart. Rest in peace. You were taken way too soon 😢
I've always loved this song. I didn't know that it was produced by Quincy Jones but I should have guessed that because to me, it always sounded like a good track to go along with this one would be Michael's P.Y.T. . Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Wow! This funky, Jackson-esque classic has the Midas touch of Quincy Jones' production skills, and jumps out at you the first time you hear it, demanding your attention! I was lucky enough to come across this single the other day, a song that somehow passed me by back in the day, and I just love it. The b-side is the beautiful ballad 'Sometimes Like Butterflies', which shows off Donna's incredible voice so well. This song made me quite emotional, reminding me of the sad loss to music of this wonderful artist - the undisputed Queen Of Disco.👌🎤🎵🎶
Rod Temperton (Thriller, Off the Wall, Always & Forever) actually wrote this amazing song!!
More like Jackson copied her.
This is the magnum opus of comments, spot on!
"Oh, Rudy, you are gonna love her." and I did.
Thank you for this experience.
Q.E.P.D Donna Summer 1948 -2012
I'm here because I was there at 15 yrs now im 49 now not because of a cartoon still I will always enjoyed Donna version.
single version entered Billboard June 26, 1982 ..reached #10
Colin Sanders i remember that.
How come I never hear it on the radio, since it was Top 10 hit? Same goes for "The Wanderer", which was a #3 radio hit. It was played like crazy, in 1980. Then, it was gone. What gives?
The drop to end all drops!
Monster jam!
This song sent me into the stratosphere when it came out, I just couldn't get enough of that power when bass drops the beat starts with that great synthesized voice!

(DECEMBER 30, 1948 - MAY 17, 2012) [12/31/2017]
Donna Summer ALWAYS sounds amazing because she has a powerful opera trained voice. this song is as wonderful as most of her compositions, but unless folks simply are forgetting, its not as enticing or driving funk filled as some of her previous efforts, but it may be you simply had to be there. love to love you baby, spring affair, i feel love, all used to slay dance floors across the world. hold my drink, cause the dj just mixed in BAD GIRLS one of my FAVORITES! i'm about to go IN!!! just sayin' lmao....

Massive jam back in the day... Still holds up to this day. Man, Rod Temperton set the bar so high with his talent. RIP, Donna and Rod; thank you both!
This SHOULD have been as big as MJ's THRILLER album, but was not.
Still remembered the first time i heard this song in'82 and saw the album....I said to myself this is heralding a new era in music...never knew then that this was one of Quincy's production....Donna Summer has always been great as an entertainer...R.I.P....sweet heart
Such an incredible loss from a disease that is easily curable. She raised the energy level across the dance floor's for decades and deserved better treatment with simple natural remedies. What a great loss! She will be loved always for her great contributions making millions so happy.
There's no known cure for lung cancer. Big Pharma does have the cure but will not release it due to the billions made from insurance payments for sick people. Same with AIDS, Herpes and Diabetes.

+Nellie Prestwood Hi, Nellie! I remember the life-size cardboard promo for this in my record store - both it and the album pics were "nonglazed" over the dress to make it appear like velvet or suede. What material did you use for the original?
I would TOTALLY wear that entire ensemble today. Love it!! You rock!!
Nellie, you're very talented, this outfit brings back so many memories for me. I followed Donna through there whole career. I will not ever forget her. You must have seen so many faces of Donna. I wish I were fortunate enough to have been a friend in here life like you. God bless you Nellie. XOXO Hope you're doing well these days.
Nellie Prestwood very sexy outfit..on a very sexy woman RIP miss summer
Very courteous and kind you are....
She had class with dignity, integrity, values, respect, patriotism and passionate as well as being an ordinary lady; a simple woman making a movement in history with humility and being sophisticated and exotic at the same time. A real role mode and even spreading the word of God in every her concerts. Most devoted mother to her three daughters and her grand children. She was married to her beloved husband for more than 32 years until she passed away (she was affected by the deadly fumes of September 11th 2001) She was a warrior all the time as she lost two baby boys by miscarriages in her life time. Her ancestry includes Irish and Native American, .also.

TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY
35 YEARS AGO TODAY (July 19, 1982): Donna Summer released her self-titled album on this day. And for the first time: she had Quincy Jones produced the album instead of her longtime collaborators Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. Summer was pregnant with her daughter Amanda Grace Sudano during the making of the album.
Summer's album featured her hits "Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger)," "The Woman in Me," "State of Independence" (featuring an all-star choir), "Living in America," and the pop standard "Lush Life."
Summer's self-titled album peaked at #6 on the US Billboard R&B album charts and #20 on the pop album charts. [07/19/2017]
Such an empowering classic!

I remember hearing this song at my first High School Pep Rally. (BRHS 1982). The gym PA speakers could not handle the BASS in this tune so they had to tone it down regardless, everyone was thrilled to hear it. Go BobCats!!

Love Donna Summer Disco Queen !!!
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS TO DANCE TO!!
she will be missed very much.
Donna was soulful in every aspect!
hung around with big shots
Never knew love was in the
Sights
I guess I missed the target
Caught up in a different line
Of fire
But I know since I've been aiming
For the sweetness in your soul
Your name is on the bullet
And it's gettin' ready to explode
There's be a change inside
My life
And just wanna let you know
Chorus:
I've got my finger on the trigger
Love is in control
I've got my finger on the trigger
I ain't lettin' go
Bass line:
Baby, let's have some fun
A won't cha be my, my
Number one
Mama used to tell me
Girl, you better load your gun
Up right
She said ya, ya gotta come
Out smokin'
Hit it with your best shot
Every time
Well I didn't understand her
'Til you walked right into range
I saw your love at twenty paces
And I knew I'd won the game
You better raise your heart
Up high
Or love will blow you right away
Chorus
Leave off the safety catch
There ain't no risk
We're gonna have some fun
I've got cha, love's begun
So stay with me
Until the mornin' sun
You're superbullet number one
Bass line:
Baby, let's have some fun
A won't cha be my, my
Number one
There's been a change inside
My life
And I just wanna let you know
Chorus
Powerful, Dynamic....
I'm a fan I had everything Donna Summer made there were no mistake
So am I!
My memories of being a child popped up. Wow. Remembered how I love this song💜💜
Never heard this back in the day, but it was playing on Sirius 80s on 8 Top 40 countdown today -- and was surprised how much it sounded like something Michael Jackson would have sung. I'm not sure why I never heard it -- I was mostly listening to rock and new wave in 1982, but also listened to some top 40 -- and, of course, knew of 'She Works Hard for the Money', but I think that may have come out after this.
landreaulover here little info this song is parallel to MIchael Jackson's "PYT" sound similar Quincy jones produced donna's album & MJ's thriller around the same time. Rod Temperton from the group Heatwave brilliant writer producer had written love is control for Donna if you if listen closely you will hear Michael Jackson & James Ingram on back up vocals.
It is the first time in 30 years that I listened to the disco version of that song. Loved it.
Rightfully So 🫅🏾 Queen Donna Summer will go down in History 🎤🎼💃

"Love Is In Control" (Finger On The Trigger)
#10, 1982.
Your music is Still alive !
The first album I ever bought love it.... played it until it broke. I love all the songs on this album.
This was totally the Michael Jackson sound in the 70s and 80s, so much that it seems like it was intended for him, before being presented to Summer. It has all the Jackson signatures in the background. The wooos, and high-inverted harmonies, and razor sharp danceable rhythm.
Well, it is Quincy after all. If only he hadn't been down on 'Smooth Criminal' he and MJ might have achieved greater heights. :(
Colin Sinfield you're spot on! the entire song structure has Q written all over it! :) Peace from Sydney, AUSTRALIA.
plutorama It's the Quincy Jones sound !

Everyone should have that sound. Even today. I'd certainly hire him.

My sisters Eva & Caroline came to New Jersey from Maine. My Sister Eva wanted to see my Uncle William Napoli
So I called him and he invited me & my sisters Eva & Caroline to Bayonne NJ. When we arrived in Bayonne my uncle
called his girlfriend Erica. Erica loved my sisters Eva & Caroline and was thrilled to see them!!! My Uncle & Erica
decide to take us to a HOT dance club in New York City. Erica told us that the people who go there are AMAZING to
watch in action. My sisters & me were dressed accordingly for being in a club. All of us then went to New York and went
into the dance club. Some close friends of my Uncle & Erica were there and happy to meet us when my Uncle introduced
us to them. We sat down and watched everyone else dance & they were AMAZING to see. We all had dinner which was
FANTASTIC!!! My Uncle & Erica danced and were really good!!! Later the DJ'S decided to have a dance contest and used
this song for everyone competing. My sisters heard this song and just waited for our turn to "DESTROY" the dance floor
and BURN the HOUSE DOWN!!!!! My Uncle & Erica danced to this song and were AWESOME!!!! One of my Uncle's friends
was leading the contest and asked my Uncle if we could dance!! Then he asked if we were any good. I looked at my sisters
and told my uncle, " This CONTEST is OVER right NOW!!! Eva & Caroline were UPSET and told me "LOAD THE ARSENAL"!!!
when I heard that my energy level went "NUCLEAR"!!! Then I LOST my MIND!!! and went into a RAGE!!!!! The three of us got
on the dance floor and PROCEEDED to "DESTROY" the dance floor and everyone else in the building!!! People were SCREAM-
ING!!! FREAKING OUT!!! & LOSING their MINDS!!! as we put on a DANCE SHOW!!!! We got done & even the DJ"S were STUNNED
over what we did!!! We won the contest and Received $5,000.00 Dollars in prize money!!! My Uncle & Erica were in tears as they
held us!!! My Uncle's friend came up to us STUNNED!!! and said, " WHO are THESE PEOPLE"!!! My Uncle replied, "My Nieces &
Nephew were Roller- Skating and Dance Champions!!!! We then danced with my Uncle & Erica and the CHEERING & Applause
we received was DEFINING!!!! People came up to us and shook our hand & hugged us!!!!

Sorry, but even though Donna complained she had just "made a Quincy Jones record" this it it. She wanted to sing rock, that is what she started with in Munich. Quincy delivered her on the silver platter with this one I love Donna's disco stuff, but this is taking it a notch or more higher. Rock on.
